Movie Review – The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

16 February 2017 1:45 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Lego Batman Movie, 2017.

Directed by Chris McKay.

Featuring the voice talents of Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, Mariah Carey, Jenny Slate, Billy Dee Williams, Hector Elizondo, Conan O’Brien, Jason Mantzoukas, Doug Benson, Zoe Kravitz, Kate Micucci, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Riki Lindhome, Eddie Izzard, Seth Green, Jermaine Clement, Ellie Kemper, Siri, and Adam DeVine.

Synopsis:

As well as defending Gotham City from criminals, Batman must now face the challenge of raising the young boy he adopted.

As the hilarious trailer pointed out, Batman has appeared in many different incarnations and films over the last fifty years, but The Lego Batman Movie is the first one that’s out-and-out comedy since the days of Adam West (or arguably, George Clooney). Although technically a spin-off from 2015’s surprise smash The Lego Movie, there’s no real connection to that film’s world or narrative (apart »

Synopsis:

Bruce Wayne must not only deal with the criminals of Gotham City, but also the responsibility of raising a boy he adopted.

The sense of relief I felt watching The Lego Batman Movie cannot be underestimated. After 2016’s heavy, serious Batman v Superman this movie is the breath of fun fresh air that the Dark Knight has been calling out for. That’s not to say Batfleck doesn’t have his merits (he was –in my opinion – one of the only decent parts of Batman v Superman) but »

Film Review: ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ Delivers the Usual Laughs

10 February 2017 7:57 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “The Lego Batman Movie” is more of a parody than the laugh-out-loud hijinks of the surprising “The Lego Movie,” but the legend of The Bats is ripe for a good skewering, and the movie has a lot of fun doing it. Will Arnett reprises the voice as the title character, with Zach Galifianakis taking on the antics of The Joker.

Rating: 3.5/5.0

Unlike the first Lego film, the Batman version is a recitation of jokes that are pretty much tipped off, wrapped around a squirrelly “Batman needs a family” plot line. Both tend to drag down the lightness that the Lego franchise has established, but the jokes are lighting fast, rarely pausing to take a breath. Don’t like this one-liner? Here are ten more in the next two minutes. There were five screenwriters on this one, and I picture them being more like Jay Leno-like jokesters than a cohesive team. »

If The Lego Movie is proof that not every terrible sounding Hollywood cash grab is a recipe for an unmitigated disaster focused on putting asses in seats over producing something of quality, then The Lego Batman Movie is confirmation that not every expansion of that phenomenal lightning in a bottle animated feature will result in diminishing returns along with a sensation of “been there, done that”. The Lego Batman Movie – Review

9 February 2017 7:43 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

When it comes to movie concepts, this flick may have the oddest, most tangled roots of all. But somehow things just snapped together (excuse the pun). Three years ago the movie world was stunned when a little kids’ flick, starring a beloved toy, became a box office (ahem) blockbuster! That may be because the WB folks thought outside the (toy) box and enlisted film makers and writers who brought something totally unexpected to the project: satire. Oh, and parody, and a big dose of zany anarchy. It was inevitable that The Lego Movie would spawn a sequel. But this is more of a spin-off. That earlier flick focused on the journey of everyman Emmet Brickowski and the folks he encountered. Since the Lego company makes themed toys around classic licenced characters, Emmet and his pals teamed up with Batman, whose gravelly voice was supplied by the great comic actor Will Arnett. »

“The Lego Batman Movie” is a surprising delight

9 February 2017 7:00 AM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

A lack of expectations can sometimes be a film’s secret weapon. It’s not that I thought The Lego Batman Movie would be bad, but it just wasn’t initially on my radar to any real degree. Go figure then, since this probably my favorite movie of 2017 so far. It works in a tremendous way. Opening this week, it hopes to be as beloved as The Lego Movie was back when it opened. Going by the response I saw last weekend when I viewed it at a press screening, Warner Brothers has absolutely nothing to worry about. This will be a surefire hit. The film is an animated action comedy following Batman (voice of Will Arnett) as he goes about his heroic ways. After an encounter with Joker (voice of Zach Galifianakis) and a huge assortment of cohorts that basically leaves Gotham City villain free temporarily, Batman/Bruce Wayne »

The Weekend Warrior 2/10/17: The Lego Batman Movie, 50 Shades Darker, John Wick 2

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

This Past Weekend:

Bomb, bomb bomb bomb, Boooooomb!  Things just kept getting worse and worse at the box office as this past weekend saw more new releases not meeting up to their potential. The horribly-reviewed horror movie Rings (Paramount) ended up around where I predicted with $13 million, taking second place to M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. The sci-fi romance The Space Between Us (Stx Entertainment) didn’t make much of a mark, opening in ninth place with just $3.8 million with about $1,300 per theater. Robert De Niro’s The Comedian (Sony Classics) tanked worse than many recent movies, making less than a million in 848 theaters or about $1,000 per theater. By comparison, the doc I Am Not Your Negro made about 78% of that amount in 800 less theaters. »

The Lego Batman Movie Screening and Q&A with Dan Lin and Chris McKay

Tai Freligh attended a special IMAX screening of The Lego Batman Movie followed by a Q&A with director Chris McKay and producer Dan Lin

I was lucky enough to win a screening of The Lego Batman Movie ahead of the theatrical release (through a partnership of IMAX and Collider.com) and watched it at the IMAX headquarters in Playa Vista, California on Monday night.  Seeing the movie in IMAX was incredible.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching this on the giant screen with rumbling sound.  It’s a gloriously loving roast of all things Batman and is well worth watching, with plenty for both adults and children to love.

Synopsis:

There are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

And like that, the live-action DC universe is thrown back into the phantom zone, forlorn and gloomy, and it’s on something no bigger than a couple of inches to take the baton and run. And oh how it runs. To take Batman seriously takes a certain leap of faith; he’s a narcissistic playboy with »
