TNT has ordered up a third season of the drama Dallas that will continue the multi-generational story of the Ewings minus J.R.
The Dallas family suffered loss this past season with the passing of Larry Hagman who played J.R. Ewing. Though Hagman's character had to obviously be written off the show, audiences stuck around for the post-Hagman era and clearly want to see where the Ewings are headed next.
Season 2 of Dallas has averaged 3.8 million viewers per episode with live plus seven days of DVR taken into account, and a respectable 1.4 million adults in the advertising coveted 18-49 demo. Those ratings were good enough for TNT to extend the series and order up an additional 15 episodes that will air in early 2014.
Hagman starred in the original Dallas that ran from 1978 to 1991. He was joined in the new continuation series by Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray, both of whom »

TNT has renewed "Dallas" for a third season.
Although last season saw the death of Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing) and struggled in the ratings -- Season 2 averaged 2.6 million viewers -- the network said itw as excited for another season of drama at Ewing Energies.
"'Dallas' has built a passionately loyal following with its expertly woven storylines, clever twists and turns, and numerous outstanding performances by a cast that spans generations," Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), said in a statement. "Although we said goodbye to Larry Hagman and his iconic character J.R. Ewing this year, 'Dallas' has many more stories left to tell, and the Ewing clan will continue to honor J.R.'s memory by keeping its audience surprised and delighted."
Josh Henderson (John Ross) tweeted about the renewal on Tuesday.

Lots of news coming out of camp Franklin & Bash today.
First up, EW has learned Adam Goldberg is going to pull double duty on the TNT show’s upcoming third season, playing twin brothers August and Tim West, two magicians who have varying levels of success and lots of bitter feelings lingering between them. (Cue off-color magician jokes from F&B.)
Meanwhile, Jane Seymour is set to return as Bash’s mother, Colleen. Per the storyline, Colleen is charged with prostitution but “the stakes up when we learn that the D.A., has an ulterior motive.”

When will we know if new Dallas is being renewed - awesome show!
It'll probably be a little while yet - following the triumphant return of Dallas in 2012, we got definite word on a second season in late June, before the first run had even wrapped...

This evening, TNT airs the final two episodes of Dallas' second season and, unlike the price of oil, the ratings have been down. Will the TV series return for a third season or will it be cancelled instead?
The new Dallas picks up several years after the original show ended. Time has passed but the Ewings and the Barnes are still at each others' throats. And, though Larry Hagman passed away, there's still plenty of drama at Southfork. The cast includes Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Judith Light.
Last season, the new Dallas was one of TNT's most-watched dramas, averaging 4.42 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
This time around, the ratings weren't so hot. The second season has averaged 2.64 million »

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched Dallas’ season finale and intend to, stop reading now. If you just want to know who killed J.R. Ewing, continue…
Our full recap of the two-hour season 2 finale is on the way (Update: it’s live!), but here’s the twist that will become a part of TV history: The Ewings and Pamela Barnes succeeded in pinning J.R.’s murder in Mexico on her father, Cliff, by planting a replica of J.R.’s stolen belt buckle in Cliff’s safe deposit box and the murder weapon — Cliff’s gun — in the trunk of his car. »

Tonight on Dallas’ two-hour season finale (TNT, 9 p.m. Et), viewers find out who shot J.R.(Larry Hagman), whether the Ewings can complete J.R.’s “masterpiece” to take down Cliff Barnes and Harris Ryland, and if Victoria Principal has returned as Christopher’s mother, Pam. “People know I can’t be bought,” Patrick Duffy says, laughing when asked if he’s been offered bribes to reveal the answers early. “It’s very rare that somebody offers, like they did Larry in the old days. The Queen Mother apparently tried to bribe him. But we don’t get that »

Ah, nostalgia for the '90s, that bygone era when rock stars wore flannel and Friday nights were for cheesy sitcoms! It now seems that we could get a reunion for Tgif mainstay, "Step by Step." One of its stars, Patrick Duffy, is apparently all for bringing the Lambert-Foster clan back together.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Duffy revealed his idea for bringing "Step by Step" back. "I would love to work with Suzanne [Somers] again," Duffy said. "The 'Step by Step' cast was so wonderful to be with. They were my family, and I think a little two-hour special about where these people are -- not a documentary but actually doing a show -- seeing where they all come to over the years. It would be so fun to play that goofy Frank Lambert character again, aging another 25 years."
Obviously, Duffy has been thinking about this. »

The dream, wide broken, seemed like all was lost: In 1998, following six seasons on ABC and a aborted, single-season attempt to transplant the family-friendly comedy to Friday nights on CBS, Step By Step was canceled. What would be the future for the gentle Brady Bunch redux, could syndication money pay the cost of living for its sizable cast? They were left to wonder: “Will there ever be a second time around?” Apparently tired of waiting for the appropriately earthy, female-vocalized response to this question, Step By Step star Patrick Duffy has gone ahead on and put the answer out »

Patrick Duffy is on board for a "Step By Step" reunion!
The actor, who reprised his initial iconic role of Bobby Ewing for TNT's "Dallas" reboot, told The Hollywood Reporter that he'd like to see where the characters of the ABC series are now.
"Step By Step" was a modern-day "Brady Bunch" of sorts: The show followed divorced contractor and father of three Frank Lambert (Duffy) and Carol Foster (Suzanne Somers), a widowed beautician with three children of her own. The two met while on vacation in Jamaica, where they spontaneously got married and then returned to Wisconsin and merged their families.
“I would love to work with Suzanne again,” Duffy told THR. “The 'Step By Step' cast was so wonderful to be with. They were my family and I think a little two-hour special about where these people are -– not a documentary, but actually doing a »

Patrick Duffy says he'd like to participate in a Step by Step reunion movie and that it would be interesting to see how the Lambert family grew up. I just hope such a series spawns a serious topical drama that desperately adds a laugh track when ratings tank, giving the Tgif generation a The Bradys of their own.
You've seen me complain that the dark side of a golden age of television is a too-full DVR that make it challenging to keep up with all the good shows (as well as the guilty pleasures and hate watching) available. It also means that shows like Southland and Switched at Birth don't quite get the attention they deserve. I'm still looking for time to get caught up on Game of Thrones, much less time to get to that third episode of Top of the Lake. »
