By Todd Garbarini

Elia Kazan’s 1960 film Wild River, which stars Montgomery Clift, Lee Remick, Joan Van Fleet, and is Bruce Dern’s debut film, celebrates its 55th anniversary this year. The Royale Laemmle Theater in Los Angeles will be holding a special one-night-only showing of the 110-minute film on Thursday, September 17th, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Actor Bruce Dern is scheduled to appear at the screening and is due to partake in a Q & A and discussion on the making of the film.

From the press release:

Wild River (1960), set in Depression-era America, tells a provocative story of the conflict between an agent from the Tennessee Valley Authority and a proud, defiant older woman who refuses to sell her land in order to make way for a much needed dam. Oscar-nominated actors Montgomery Clift and Lee Remick star, and Oscar-winning actress Jo Van Fleet (only 40 at the time she made the film) plays the stubborn, »

2016 Oscar Predictions: Best Supporting Actor

24 August 2015 8:30 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Quentin Tarantino has led Christoph Waltz to two Oscars in this category, but Waltz is absent from the director's latest, "The Hateful Eight." That film boasts a whopping seven potential contenders in this category (only of the noted eight is a woman, which could get Jennifer Jason Leigh a nod in the supporting actress race). Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern and Samuel L. Jackson seem like they have the showiest parts, putting them in contention amidst a seemingly endless list of other contenders: Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels ("Steve Jobs"), Benedict Cumberbatch and Kevin Bacon ("Black Mass"), Tom Hardy ("The Revenant"), Alan Alda ("Bridge of Spies"), Bradley Cooper ("Joy"), Steve Carell ("Freeheld"), Dominic West and Jude Law ("Genius") and Mr. Waltz himself ("Tulip Fever"). We truly could go on and on... It will also be interesting to see how many nominees from last year pop up here. Beyond the noted »

Rooney Mara: Looking at potential Best Supporting Actress contenders

20 August 2015 8:54 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

As you fine ladies and gentlemen must all know by now (since I’ve pretty much hammered it into your heads), it’s one thing to read early Academy Award predictions in order to see what folks like myself think will happen this winter, but it’s a whole separate thing to actually know something about who and what will be in contention. To help out in that particular regard, I’m continuing my yearly ritual of running down some of the major contenders in each Oscar category in order to prep you all for the season to come. Basically, the format will have me saying a few words about what or who I feel are the top tier contenders right now in said categories, along with a longer list afterwards of many of the other hopefuls that the Academy might potentially take a shine to. Trailer Trashin’: Breaking Down the Teaser for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight

20 August 2015 2:00 AM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

We’re more than halfway through August, dear readers, and the summer movie season is almost over. But there are always new trailers for me to watch and analyze. This week’s installment of Trailer Trashin’ takes a look at the teaser for Quentin Tarantino’s next film The Hateful Eight.

Premise: In post-Civil War Wyoming, eight strangers seek shelter in a haberdashery during a blizzard. But they soon get involved in a plot of betrayal and deception. Will they survive, and are they really who they say they are?

My take: Back in November 2013, Quentin Tarantino announced that his next film would be The Hateful Eight, his second Western after Django Unchained (2012). But in January 2014, after Tarantino had given copies of his first draft screenplay of the film to a few trusted colleagues, a copy of the script was leaked online. Tarantino was furious, filed a lawsuit against the gossip blog Gawker, »

Meet Bruce Dern’s The Confederate In Icy New Poster For The Hateful Eight

13 August 2015 12:55 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Still reeling from the release of yesterday’s stunning debut trailer? Fret not, for The Weinstein Company has today released an ice-cool new poster for The Hateful Eight that depicts Bruce Dern as The Confederate – or General Sandy Smithers, if we’re being polite.

Joining Quentin Tarantino’s eclectic motley crew, the two-time Academy Award nominee is best known for playing unhinged characters in the likes of Nebraska and Coming Home, meaning he’ll be right at home in the auteur’s latest work.

Set in the Wyoming outback, The Hateful Eight orbits around the titular group of bounty hunters who find themselves marooned in the mountains when a seemingly relentless blizzard comes bearing down over the hillside. Channeling Reservoir Dogs’ dynamic, the film will see the mismatched group begin to turn on each other in a stylistic romp that looks to be decidedly Tarantino.

Kurt Russell, stuck in the snow with eight strangers, uttering the line “One of them fellas is not what he says he is.” But it’s not The Thing – it’s the trailer for The Hateful Eight and it had me at “Got room for one more?” This long-awaited trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film is exactly how a trailer should be cut, showing us just a basic synopsis of the movie and who’s in it. It’s not like so many others that show us the best parts of the movie, then show what happens at the end so we really don’t need to bother seeing the film. The Hateful Eight looks to have eight unique and interesting characters and I can’t wait until Christmas!

'Hateful Eight' Character Posters Introduce Sheriff Mannix and Bob

12 August 2015 5:16 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It's been quite a week already for fans of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, with a new poster featuring Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh arriving on Monday, and the first trailer debuting today. The one-sheet was believed to be the first in a series, and, sure enough, today we have two more posters, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies and IMDb. The posters feature Walton Goggins as Sheriff Chris Mannix and Demi&#225n Bichir as Bob.

Don't be surprised if we see posters featuring the last remaining four of The Hateful Eight, Samuel L. Jackson's Marquis Warren, Tim Roth's Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen's Joe Gage and Bruce Dern's Sanford Smithers. Given the amount of profanity and violence one normally sees in a Quentin Tarantino film, don't be surprised if a red band trailer surfaces sometime in the near future. Until then, we'll just have to wait »
