Kate McKinnon Shines as the New Ms. Frizzle on Netflix’s ‘The Magic School Bus’ Reboot — Watch the Trailer
Ah, the mellifluous refrain of Lily Tomlin’s Ms. Frizzle warning: “Strap in, kids. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.” How many lazy afternoons were spent learning about the digestive tract from the inside of an intestine, or flying inside an exhaust pipe to fix a faulty engine and learn what a carburetor is? Now, it’s time for the next generation to surreptitiously learn about science at the urging of an eccentric, frizzy-haired teacher. Netflix released the first trailer for its reboot of “The Magic School Bus,” a beloved and educational kids’ show that ran for four seasons from 1994-1997 on PBS Kids, titled “The Magic School Bus Rides Again.”

Ms. Frizzle, originally voiced by Lily Tomlin, will now be played by Kate McKinnon, rightful heir to all things funny and wacky. The only thing missing in the passing of the baton is Ms. Frizzle’s signature frizzy hair,

The Cannonball Run relaunch finds its director and writers

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is revving its engines on The Cannonball Run, with the studio is talks with director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Central Intelligence) and screenwriters Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum).

Described as a “relaunch” of the series rather than a remake, the new film is being produced by Andre Morgan and Alan Gasmer (Vikings) and will once again focus on the legendary illegal cross-country race. Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen was previously attached to write and direct the film, but has left for unspecified reasons.

The first Cannonball Run movie was released in 1981, and was followed by sequels in 1984 and 1989. The original film featured an all-star cast which included the likes of Burt Reynolds, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jackie Chain, Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise and Farrah Fawcett.

The project will relaunch the franchise begun by Hal Needham’s “The Cannonball Run” in 1981, a slapdash comedy starred Frank Sinatra, Burt Reynolds, Jackie Chan, Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise, Farrah Fawcett, and many other stars of the time. The Fox release was universally panned by critics, but was one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. Warner Bros. followed that up in 1984 with “Cannonball Run II,” and Orion released a third film, “Speed Zone,” in 1989. The franchise centers around a cross-country car race, inspired by a real race that took place throughout the 1970’s.

The Cannonball Run remake has a director in Rawson Thurber

Warner Bros. Pictures have set Rawson Thurber (Central Intelligence, We’re the Millers) to direct its Cannonball Run remake. The studio has also set comedy writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum franchise) to write the script, so reports Deadline.

The film is a relaunch of the 1981 Burt Reynolds classic which revolved around an illegal car race from New York to California, a cameo-ridden comedy that also featured the talents of Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Adrienne Barbeau, Dean Martin, Jackie Chan, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dom DeLuise.

It is thought that the new film will be titled simply Cannonball.

Thurber will next team with Dwayne Johnson for Skyscraper, and this project will possibly follow.

Here’s the trailer for the first movie.

Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs 2"

  • SneakPeek
When writer/director Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs" comedy spoof of "Star Wars" was first released in 1987, fans of the 'space opera' genre were delighted with the film, but most reviewers at the time dismissed the film as lame 'shtick', thinking the whole "Star Wars" 'thing' had run its course and best left forgotten. But the fans were right, the film was successful and now Brooks and MGM are finally gearing up for a "Spaceballs" movie franchise:

Unfortunately the original "Spaceballs" film has seen many of the main cast pass away, including John Candy as 'Barf'...

... Joan Rivers as 'Dot Matrix', Dom DeLuise as 'Pizza The Hut'...

...and Phil Hartman as 'Dink'.

But Brooks himself who played 'Yogurt' and 'President Skroob', Bill Pullman as 'Lone Star' and Daphne Zuniga as 'Princess Vespa' are still working.

Ranging from never-before-streamed comedy specials to historical classics to critically acclaimed kids’ films, these titles are sure to keep you cooped up and entertained throughout mud season. Enjoy.

1. “Richard Pryor: Live & Smokin'” (available April 1)

The first of only four specials ever filmed by the legendary comedian, this 45-minute stand-up set from 1978 was released on VHS in 1985 and has never been available to stream before (legally). Almost universally revered by comedians of all stripes, this special has stayed relatively obscure due to an uneven performance from Pryor. Still, you can learn from a genius even on a bad day.

2. “Across the Universe” (available April 1)

Even Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess anchor this visually enchanting Beatles movie musical from visionary Broadway director and choreographer Julie Taymor (“Titus

Stargate Sg-1: 10 great guest performances

Juliette Harrisson Jan 31, 2017

We salute 10 memorable guest roles on Stargate Sg-1, featuring Seth, The Keeper and more...

As with our previous features, this is a list designed to celebrate the very best performances by guest actors in Stargate Sg-1. However, we did come across a couple of challenges in compiling the list for this particular series. We’ve defined ‘guest performance’ as an actor playing a character who is not a regular or recurring character – so the actor must have played the character no more than twice in this particular series (though they may have appeared more often in other branches of the franchise). Stargate Sg-1 liked to re-use its best guest characters as often as possible, frequently bringing back characters like Claudia Black’s Vala Mal Doran after what was initially a one-off appearance, which is great as the audience get to enjoy them again, but seriously reduces the number of eligible performances.

Gene Wilder's 10 Greatest Performances

Gene Wilder's 10 Greatest Performances
Everyone's got a favorite Gene Wilder performance: to younger viewers, he's a fondly remembered face in childhood favorites like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; to an older filmgoers, he was a brilliantly bawdy performer who owned comedy in the Seventies. At any age, however, he was one of those impossible-to-dislike actors whose very presence had a way of lifting up a film.

Most actors consider it a privilege to land one all-time classic role over the course of their career — Wilder had more than can be counted on one hand.
