Stone Sells Her Earrings on TV

24 October 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Movie star Sharon Stone stunned a studio audience on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres' chat show on Friday when she showed off her auctioneering skills by selling off her earrings. The actress was chatting about a recent charity auction she hosted, where she offered the moneybags men in the audience the chance to fasten her dress when a clasp came loose - for a fee - when she sparked an impromptu bidding frenzy. Responding to DeGeneres questions about her auctioning skills, Stone said, "I can do it right now... You want to see," before taking her gold and diamond earrings out and inviting fans to bid for them. Bidding started at $500 and quickly rose to $7,000 when the Basic Instinct star agreed to add a signed photo to the lot. Desperate to raise as must cash as possible, an excited Stone stated, "I'll put them in a box, I'll gift wrap them personally." A bespectacled fan called Joe claimed the top bid. Stone plans to hand over the cash to her favorite charity, the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFar). »

Goldberg Tips DeGeneres As Next Oscars Host

4 October 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The Color Purple star Whoopi Goldberg has ruled out the possibility of ever hosting the Academy Awards again - and she's recommending Ellen DeGeneres for the job. Goldberg has had enough after hosting the prestigious ceremony four times, and she believes that fellow comedienne DeGeneres - who recently hosted the Emmy Awards - would be the perfect choice for the job. She says, "I think actually there's another young lady who would like to do it and so I've got my fingers crossed for her. I think it's Ellen. I think she would be good." Comedian Chris Rock hosted this year's awards show. »

Generous DeGeneres Pumps Up Houston

30 September 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Generous chat show host Ellen DeGeneres brought smiles to the faces of Houston, Texas locals hit by the weekend's (24-26Sep05) Hurricane Rita - by handing out free gas . DeGeneres flew a production assistant to Houston yesterday to serve up free fuel to motorists stopping at the city's Fuel Depot garage between 5pm and 7pm. DeGeneres insists the gas venture wasn't dreamed up for her show - she has been personally affected by the devastation left by the late summer hurricanes. She says, "Like thousands of others, I have family members who've been personally affected by this hurricane. I want to do anything I can to help." Meanwhile, a Hurricane Relief Fun she set up has raised $7 million. »

Heche Slams Mother's Anti-Gay Crusade

22 September 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Anne Heche has hit back at her mother's claims she turned the one-time lesbian straight through prayer. Nancy Heche was delighted when her daughter left her then-lover Ellen DeGeneres in 2000 and married a man, Coley Luffoon, a year later. But the actress is upset her mother has been using her name to promote Christian ex-gay events and billing herself "a single parent who experienced the international media rush during her daughter Anne Heche's highly visible relationship with Ellen DeGeneres." She tells the New York Daily News, "This nonsense about my mother praying for me is really making me angry. My mother never approved of my relationship with Ellen. Her hatred for our relationship is one of the many things that ultimately led to my breaking off all communication with her. (My mother, that is, not Ellen). The ex-gay events right now make me sick. And for anyone who ever thought that Ellen and I broke it off because of sexuality, you couldn't be more mistaken. And for anyone who thought my mother's prayers had anything to do with me marrying a man, forget it." »

DeGeneres: 'De Rossi Is Forever'

DeGeneres high-profile coupling with Anne Heche ended in 2000, when the Psycho actress left the comic for cameraman Coley Laffoon - now her husband. DeGeneres gushes to America's Allure magazine, "I pray that Portia and I are together the rest of our lives. I never thought my life would have turned out this way. To have money. Or to have a gorgeous girlfriend. I just feel so lucky with everything in my life right now." »

DeGeneres' Torment Over Heche Split

19 May 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres wept for days after her lesbian lover Anne Heche ditched her for a man. The popular talk show host couldn't bare her life in the aftermath of Heche's sudden exit, insisting her eyes would well up as soon as she awoke in the morning. However, DeGeneres has finally overcome her heartbreak over Heche, who is now married to Coley Laffoon. She tells website Pagesix.Com, "Anne broke my heart into a million pieces. When Anne left, I'd wake up in the morning, and my eyes would just immediately fill up with tears, and I would start convulsively crying. I'd watch the sun come up and then go down and I'd literally be in the same place on the floor. I've never spoken to her since she left," she says, though recently, while driving, she thought she saw Heche. "There would have been a point where that would have made me so nervous. But I realised I felt nothing, and feeling nothing about her was great." »

The couple, who wed in September and will have their first child together later in the year, spoke with the comedienne about the joys of being married. Father-of-two Federline cooed, "The make-ups from the arguments are the best part. Married or not, I love being with her and she's fun. She's very sweet... You can't be serious all the time. Life's too short to be serious all the time." He also spoke about his new life under the glare of the paparazzi, adding, "I wouldn't say it's completely hard. It gets on you sometimes. It has its ups and downs but I'm just happy with who I'm with. I love her and everything else is whatever." DeGeneres, who joked about becoming their child's godmother, gave the couple a handful of parting gifts, which included diapers emblazoned with the words "Oops... I did it again". To help the proud parents avoid the paparazzi, DeGeneres presented them with baseball caps. Spears' reads, "I'm not Britney Spears," while Federline's says, "I'm not Kevin Federline." A tiny one for their child says, "I'm not their baby." They also received a "pimped out" Silver Cross pram, complete with spinning chrome wheels, neon lights and a Sony DVD player. »

Portia De Rossi Erases Tattoo of Ex's Name

Former Ally McBeal star Portia De Rossi is shedding a tattoo with her former partner's initials, after embarking on a romance with comedienne Ellen DeGeneres. The tattoo, which is on De Rossi's ring finger, was meant to show her commitment to her now ex-girlfriend, singer-songwriter Francesca Gregorini. De Rossi, 32, and Gregorini, who is the stepdaughter of former Beatle Ringo Starr, dated for three years, until they spilt late last year. De Rossi recently told Details magazine of her plans to have the tattoo removed, "I'm not saying it's anything I regret doing, because I don't, but it just doesn't make any sense now." Shortly after her break-up with Gregorini, de Rossi and talk show host DeGeneres became a couple. Rock's Chances of 2006 Oscar Return Diminishing

11 April 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Chris Rock's fears he won't be asked back to present at next year's Academy Awards have been confirmed by one of the ceremony's bosses. The 40-year-old comedian received mixed reviews for his efforts at the February show, stating afterwards that he'd happily take on duties again, if asked. But while Bruce Davis, executive director of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences, is thrilled with how Rock handled his chores, he has huge doubts he'll be asking the funnyman back - at least not next year. He says, "I really shouldn't speculate. We have our own list of needs. If we did the Oscars by polls, we'd give the nominations to the top five box-office films." Davis continues, "When you have a new host that strikes some sparks, there is evidence that ratings go up," adding that it is rare for anyone to host for two years in a row. Rock helped TV network ABC attract 41.5 million viewers, which was down two million from 2004, but ratings were up from last year among viewers aged 18 to 34 - those most coveted by advertisers. It is speculated that Billy Crystal, Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres are among the favorites to helm March's 78th annual show. »

De Rossi Gives DeGeneres Wedding Ring

Portia De Rossi has given lover Ellen DeGeneres a Tiffany wedding band as a symbol of her devotion to the comedienne - and bought herself a matching ring. The Arrested Development actress gave the band to DeGeneres on her 47th birthday after only a two month courtship. De Rossi walked out on long-term partner Francesca Gregorini to be with the funnywoman last month. A source told gossip website Pagesix.Com, "It signifies their commitment to each other." However, the happy couple are unlikely to hold a ceremony to celebrate their union because gay marriages are illegal in California and they would want official recognition. Meanwhile, De Rossi is having laser treatment to remove a tattoo of the initials 'Fg' from her wedding finger - Gregorini has a similar tattoo which the pair had done to signify their devotion. »
