The Disaster Artist inspires our list of the top 5 bad cult moviesThe Disaster Artist inspires our list of the top 5 bad cult moviesScott Goodyer11/17/2017 2:30:00 Pm

James Franco's The Disaster Artist is just around the corner. The hilarious comedy is the behind-the-scenes story of the making of the 2003 cult classic movie The Room. Self-funded by the unknown Hollywood wannabe Tommy Wiseau, who also wrote, directed and starred in The Roomit was a major flop but instant cult classic as word of mouth quickly spread on how ridiculously funny this serious drama was.

So what makes The Rooma cult hit? The same elements that elevate other bad movies which suffer from well-intentioned but off-the-mark writing and acting. It's hard to pin down, but we think in this particular case it's Wiseau's oddball personality that makes The Room stand out—and Franco's interpretation of it that makes The Disaster Artist

Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Oscar Isaac stresses that Poe Dameron is not the next Han Solo

Star Wars: The Force Awakens caught a lot of flack for feeling like a retread of A New Hope. Poe Dameron, for example, is a handsome, wisecracking, crack shot pilot in a leather jacket. Sound familiar? Well, Poe Dameron actor Oscar Isaac wants to make clear that he doesn’t think that his character is a second-coming of Han Solo. Chatting with Esquire, the actor describes Rian Johnson’s desire to have Poe Dameron’s character serve the main plot in Star Wars: The Last Jedi:

“Well, there could be [an opening for a Han-like character], but I think what [The Last Jedi director] Rian [Johnson] did was make it less about filling a slot and more about what the story needs. The fact is now that the Resistance has been whittled to just a handful of people, they’re running for their lives, and Leia is grooming me — him — to be a leader of the Resistance, as opposed to a dashing,

Promo art may reveal first look at Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story

Given that most of the movie has been reshot (up to 80% if rumours are to be believed) and Lucasfilm’s focus remains firmly on Star Wars: The Last Jedi at present, it’s not surprising that the marketing campaign for Solo: A Star Wars Story is yet to get underway.

That being said, assuming the film is sticking to its May release date, things will likely get moving very soon. And, while we await the launch of the official marketing campaign, it seems we may have our first look at Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo thanks to a piece of promotional art that has surfaced on social media…

Rian Johnson to create new Star Wars trilogy

Lucasfilm have announced that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will get to create his own galaxy far, far away with a brand new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he will write and direct, with long term collaborator Ram Bergman fulfilling producer duties.

The official statement is as exciting as a yellow font opening scrawl:

Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct, with longtime collaborator Ram Bergman onboard to produce.

As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud. In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,

Kathleen Kennedy says that Star Wars: The Last Jedi won’t answer all of our questions

Star Wars: The Force Awakens certainly raised a few questions: Who are Rey’s parents? What has Luke Skywalker been doing all these years? How did Kylo Ren fall to the Dark Side? And just who is Supreme Leader Snoke?

We know that some of these will be answered in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Director Rian Johnson has confirmed for instance that Rey’s parentage will be addressed, but he’s also said he won’t delve into Supreme Leader Snoke’s part, and now on the latest episode of The Star Wars Show, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy has warned us not to expect too many answers:

“I think [Rian’s] done an exceptional job of taking these new characters and some of the legacy characters and moving us to this next place,” said Kennedy. “He doesn’t answer all the questions, I will say that up front. But there are

Mark Hamill says Luke’s backstory is not important to Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Mark Hamill had it fairly easy for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, simply having to turn around, lower his hood, and exhibit virtually the entire range of emotions whilst staring at Daisy Ridley’s Rey for what seemed like an eternity.

However, things are going to be a little different this December as Luke Skywalker takes centre stage in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Hamill has been chatting to Disney Insider about returning to his iconic role, during which he revealed that Luke’s backstory between Return of the Jedi and the Sequel Trilogy isn’t going to be relevant in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“The biggest challenge for me was actually in the time between Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I had to know what had happened to Luke during those years. I had to glean decades of backstory from the script.

Star Wars Rebels season 4 episode 7 review: Kindred

Megan Crouse Nov 7, 2017

Dave Filoni finally releases the loth-wolves in a nicely mystical Star Wars: Rebels episode. Spoilers ahead...

This review contains spoilers.

See related Doctor Who Christmas special scene to air during Children In Need Doctor Who: Moffat on budget issues, advice for Chibnall Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker talks more about her casting

4.7 Kindred

There’s something wonderfully earnest about this episode of Star Wars Rebels. It does away with any suggestion of filler; the introduction of a new (and/or returning) character is just one of many stand-out moments that are sure to get fans talking. It also sets up a battle for Lothal that resonates thematically with the show as a whole. Maybe it’s because Dave Filoni has been putting references to wolves into his shows since The Clone Wars, but I thought I could detect a sort of fannish glee, a detailed attention,

Lego Star Wars Sandspeeder set revealed

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi fast approaching, we’ll soon be getting a new wave of Lego Star Wars sets, and while we’ve heard a few rumours about what is in store, we haven’t actually seen any of the sets until now.

It seems that some of the upcoming sets have already went on sale in certain Target stores in the U.S., including the Sandspeeder (75204), which is essentially the T-47 Airspeeder (a.k.a. Snowspeeder) from The Empire Strikes Back, complete with a sandy paint job.

It’s a little hard to make out whether those minifigures are Rebel pilots or Resistance pilots, but this is presumably an ‘Expanded Universe’ set rather than something we’re going to see in The Last Jedi. Check it out here…
