Larry David Is Bernie Sanders in 'Bern Your Enthusiasm' SNL Skit

19 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier this season on Saturday Night Live, Curb Your Enthusiasm star/creator Larry David made a few surprise appearances, portraying Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in episodes hosted by Tracy Morgan and Donald Trump. Last night, Larry David hosted SNL, and, as expected, the actor/writer once again portrayed Bernie Sanders, but in a way most hadn't expected. One of last night's most popular sketches was a spoof on Larry David's own show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, entitled Bern Your Enthusiasm.

The sketch features Bernie Sanders on the campaign trail in Iowa, where the caucus was recently held, where the Presidential candidate is shaking hands with his supporters after a rally. The plot thickens when an avid fan (Leslie Jones) wants to shake his hand, but she coughs into her hand first, which creates quite a stir when the candidate refuses to shake her "germ-infested hand." The sketch also features »

Network Pilot Season In a Frenzy Thanks to Cable and Digital Dealmaking

3 February 2016 3:00 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Not so long ago, January was literally full of drama.

Network TV development execs typically spent the December holidays reading 60-plus scripts for prospective drama series. The following month would be dedicated to debating and strategizing on the best dozen or so to order to pilot. And then, as Groundhog Day approached, they’d do it all over again with comedies.

This year, the broadcast networks were nearly done handing out all of their pilot orders before January wrapped. They have no choice: The chase for top talent and material is now so fierce that the pilot-season timetable might as well be measured in warp factors. No one can afford to dawdle: The traditional broadcast development cycle has to barrel into a marketplace already humming year-round with deal-making for cable and digital shows.

“All the networks are just trying to get out in front of each other — basically, everyone is racing, »

NBC Orders Comedy Pilots from ‘Undateable’ Producers, Greg Garcia, David Janollari

2 February 2016 2:15 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

NBC has picked up three more comedy pilots for the 2015-16 season, Variety has learned.

“Sebastian,” from CBS Television Studios and Amigos de Garcia, stars stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, who also serves as writer and co-executive producer, along with Austen Earl. In this multi-camera comedy, Sebastian’s old-school values, instilled by his opinionated Italian father, are constantly put to the test by his new wife, her family, and the absurdities of the modern world. Greg Garcia is also executive producing.

Vladimir Caamano will star in, write and co-executive produce an untitled project from Warner Bros. Television and Bill Lawrence’s Doozer Productions shingle. Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Adam Sztykiel will executive produce. Sztykiel also penned the script with Caamano. The multi-camera comedy centers around Vlad, the son of Dominican immigrants, who wants to carve his own path in life, which proves difficult as his father has no desire to change their extremely co-dependent relationship. »

NBC has ordered three comedy pilots, including projects from exec producers Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones, Variety has learned.

NBC Picks Up Pilot for Time Travel Action Drama from ‘The Shield’ and ‘Supernatural’ Creators

21 January 2016 1:31 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

NBC has ordered a pilot for “Time,” a time travel action crime drama hailing from writers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, Variety has learned.

First put into development this past August with a hefty pilot production commitment, “Time” had been at the center of a bidding war between the Big Four networks.  Following a slew of comedy pilot pickups at NBC, “Time” marks the network’s first original drama pilot order in contention for 2016-17.

Described as a high-octane drama, “Time” follows an unlikely trio who travel through time to battle a master criminal intent on altering the fabric of human history with potentially catastrophic results.

Kripke, who created “Supernatural,” and Ryan, who created “The Shield,” are co-writers on the project. They’ll also serve as exec producers, along with “The Blacklist’s” John Davis and John Fox, plus Marney Hochman.

The Lineup for A Tribute to James Burrows Is Here, and No, It’s Still Not a Friends Reunion

20 January 2016 11:24 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

The Friends reunion is here! Just kidding, it is 100 percent not a Friends reunion, so please stop calling it that. Sure, the gang is getting back together, but only five out of six of them, and no one even invited James Michael "Gunther" Tyler or Tom "Eye Doctor Richard" Selleck. Now that that's out of the way, here's what it really is: a tribute to director James Burrows, who is recognized as TV’s most accomplished comedy director. He's done The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Will & Grace, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and Mike & Molly. The special will celebrate his 1,000th episode of TV with his new NBC comedy Crowded.Scheduled to be in attendance will be the casts of the following shows. (Others may also be added.) 20 January 2016 11:00 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Although the entire “Friends” cast won’t be reuniting, plenty of sitcom stars old and new will be together for NBC’s tribute to comedy veteran James Burrows on the Feb. 21 special, “Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows.”

The TV special marks a huge milestone for Burrows: he has directed 1,000 episodes of television with NBC’s new comedy “Crowded.”

The cast of “Crowded” will be at the special, in addition to cast members from “Cheers,” “Frasier,” “Will & Grace,” “Taxi,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Wings,” “Mike & Molly,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Friends” — though Matthew Perry will appear in a pre-taped segment, as originally planned.

Burrows made his TV sitcom directorial debut in 1974 on an episode of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and is best known for his work on “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “Frasier” and “Will & Grace” for which he directed all four pilots. He also directed the pilots of “Friends, »

Michael Schur Talks ‘Good Place,’ New Kristen Bell-Ted Danson Comedy

14 January 2016 5:23 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

After a long stint in Pawnee, Ind., Michael Schur is heading to a very different place — a “Good Place,” in fact.

The latest project from “Parks and Recreation” executive producer Schur is a straight-to-series 13-episode comedy starring Kristen Bell (“House of Lies,” “Veronica Mars”) and Ted Danson. The NBC comedy is about a New Jersey woman who realizes that she’s not actually a very good person and tries to change — if only she can figure out what positive changes look like.

Danson, most recently seen in FX’s “Fargo,” will play a man who helps Bell’s character, Eleanor, on her self-improvement path. In his first interview about the new show, Schur, who is also an executive producer on “Master of None” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” said that there is a third major character to be cast, as well as an ensemble of a few other series regulars, but the »

Ted Danson and Kristen Bell Will Star in New NBC Comedy Not About Three Men and One Baby

12 January 2016 1:26 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Ted Danson is dancin' his way away from the ol' Ccc, otherwise known as CBS's CSI: Cyber (say that ten times fast) and toward NBC's new comedy Good Place, Variety reports. It doesn't have quite the same ring to it, but it is from Parks and Recreation showrunner Mike Schur, and stars Kristen Bell (and who knows, probably a sloth at some point). The show centers around Eleanor (Bell), a woman from New Jersey who comes to realize that she hasn’t been a very good person, so she decides to turn over a new leaf and make up for her past behavior. Ted Danson plays a guy named Michael (Ha! Classic Danson!) who comes to be Eleanor’s guide through her self-designed self-improvement course. Danson will be missed on Cyber, but Bell will not be missed on House of Lies, because if it's renewed, the star will be juggling »

Kristen Bell & Ted Danson Cast in New NBC Comedy; Danson Will Not Return to ‘CSI: Cyber’

12 January 2016 10:23 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Kristen Bell and Ted Danson have been cast in NBC’s new comedy “Good Place” from “Parks and Recreation” showrunner Mike Schur. NBC announced the casting on Tuesday.

With his starring role on “Good Place,” Danson would not return to “CSI: Cyber,” in which he currently stars, should CBS order a third season.

“He would not be returning,” CBS president Glenn Geller confirmed to Variety and reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif., regarding “Cyber.”

As for Bell, who stars on “House of Lies,” the series is set to launch its fifth season with Bell sometime this year. Showtime has not picked up the show for anything beyond Season 5, but should the Don Cheadle-starrer be renewed, Bell would return and juggle both shows, as her “Lies” deal stipulated that she could do both series.
