Major Ian Fleming Biopic In The Works

21 May 2012 1:52 PM, PDT | Cinemaretro.com | See recent CinemaRetro news »

A major feature film will depict the intriguing life of James Bond author and creator Ian Fleming. The legendary Fleming's colorful career included a good deal of exotic travel and wartime intrigue in British naval intelligence. Many of these aspects of his life were incorporated into the 007 novels. The film is based on author Andrew Lycett's acclaimed biography of Fleming and has the full approval of the Fleming estate. Duncan Jones (son of David Bowie)  will direct. A previous Fleming biopic was made for American television in the late 1980s with Jason Connery, son of Sean Connery,  starring as the author. There was also a British Fleming biography starring Charles Dance titled Goldeneye, released prior to the Bond flick of the same name.  For more click here  »

After Dark Action Series Launches with New Films from Van Damme, Caviezel and Lundgren

3 April 2012 7:05 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

After Dark Films, the same folks who bring us the After Dark Horrorfest every year, are about to branch out with another closely related genre: action. This week, in partnership with Dark Castle Home Entertainment, they have announced After Dark Action, a series of "five original, adrenaline-pumping films" that will be released simultaneously on demand and in select theatres. The movies feature an impressive line-up of stars that include Jean Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Peter Weller, James Caviezel, Harold Perrineau, Scott Adkins and Christian Slater. It certainly sounds promising, but will these movies be any better than the direct-to-video drivel that a lot of these guys have been starring in over the past decade? The full list of films is as follows: Transit – Starring James Caviezel, James Frain, Elizabeth Rohm, Harold Perrineau and Sterling Knight; and directed by Antonio Negret and written by Michael Gilvary Dragon Eyes – Starring Jean Claude Van Damme, »

Richard Carpenter obituary

5 March 2012 5:45 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Actor and children's television writer known for Catweazle, Robin of Sherwood and The Borrowers

Richard Carpenter, who has died of a blood clot aged 82, brought intelligent, imaginative entertainment to generations of young television viewers through the fantasy series he created. After almost two decades as an actor, he found his first success as a writer with Catweazle (1970-71), starring Geoffrey Bayldon as a dishevelled, eccentric, 11th-century magician transported to the 20th century. Comic misunderstandings were mixed with slapstick as Catweazle befriended a farmer's son, Carrot (played by Robin Davies), who unravelled for him modern-day mysteries such as "electrickery" and the "telling-bone".

In the second series, Carpenter had Catweazle searching for symbols of the 13 signs of the Magic Zodiac and being taken in by another boy, Cedric (Gary Warren), at his parents' country estate. "I've always been interested in the person who is outside society," said Carpenter in a 1990 interview with the magazine Time Screen. »
