Carjacked and Expecting More: A Movie Review

20 December 2011 4:00 AM, PST | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

*full disclosure: a quote written by this reviewer is featured on the rear box cover of this film (seen left and top, first panel.

Director: John Bonito.

Writers: Michael Compton and Sherry Compton.

Cast: Maria Bello, Stephen Dorff and Joanna Cassidy.

Carjacked is an interesting film to this reviewer mainly because this is the first release to feature a quote from 28Dla on the cover. The quote taken by Anchor Bay Films is a sum up of some of the early promotional material. However, the film itself is very mediocre despite some great acting from Maria Bello and Stephen Dorff. Slow pacing in the early frames and a ridiculous character transformation in the finale sank this film's chances of becoming anything special or believable.

Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello plays Lorraine, a meek single mother of one boy. She attends a woman's support group at night while scrounging for gas money on her own. »

The Plot: Set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

The Buzz: Director Martin Scorsese is not known for his family films. Throughout his career Scorsese has stuck to churning out gritty/grisly street films, realistic & vibrant tales about the harshness of life, about the hard-nose battle of good versus evil, of right versus wrong (of moral relativity), and of psychoses versus neuroses. His films are fairly hardcore and as thus are very often hard-r. His latest offering in Hugo, looks to be an »

Body of Proof Review: Who Went Missing?

5 October 2011 3:41 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

A tense new Body of Proof gave us a missing boy, the return of Joanna Cassidy as Megan's mom and a hot new investigator.

"Missing" upped the emotional intensity when the autopsies weren't about finding a killer, but about finding a kidnapped little boy. With the pressure on and the clock ticking, Bud pulled his suspect into interrogation and turned off the cameras.

When Jason Peterson was found dead twenty minutes later, Bud was in huge trouble. Granted, it looked exceedingly bad but everyone was rather quick to convict Bud on the spot. Overall, he's a good cop and wanted that boy found as much as anyone yet it seemed his friends  assumed him guilty without even asking what happened.

As the team searched for the missing child, we got to meet Derek Ames, a very attractive FBI Investigator who was quite obviously taken with Megan.

I enjoyed the banter between Megan and Derek. »

Carjacked Trailer, or, Maria Bello is One Angry Shotgun-Toting Mother

29 September 2011 8:52 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

The official site for John Bonito’s “Carjacked” has released the first trailer for the film, which features Maria Bello meeting Stephen Dorff, Maria Bello being terrorized by Stephen Dorff, before Maria Bello decides to fight back against Stephen Dorff. This involves Bello finding her inner warrior and getting her hands on a pump-action shotgun. Hey, you mess with the bull, you get the horn, kid. Or, er, shotgun rounds to the face. Same difference. The trailer is a tad Nsfw (rough language), so be warned. Lorraine, a vulnerable single mom and her 5-year-old son are carjacked by Roy, a vicious bank robber who forces her to drive cross country to meet up with his accomplice who still has the money from the robbery. A Menacing Stephen Dorff in this Latest Graphic for Vehicle Acquisition Thriller Jacked

3 June 2011 11:29 AM, PDT | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

Previously titled Carjacked, Jacked has a menacing new film poster, which shows Stephen Dorff as Roy, menacing actress Maria Bello (Lorraine) and her young son (Connor Hill).

Blade Runner Review d: Ridley Scott scr: Hampton Fancher, David Peoples

Blade Runner (1982) Direction: Ridley Scott Cast: Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, Daryl Hannah, Joanna Cassidy, Brion James Screenplay: Hampton Fancher and David Peoples; from Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Oscar Movies Harrison Ford, Blade Runner By Dan Schneider of Cosmoetica: Ridley Scott's dystopian 1982 sci-fi drama Blade Runner is one of those Hollywood productions whose initially mixed reviews were actually closer to the mark than the decades of hagiography that followed. That's not to say that Blade Runner is a bad film; it's only a much-ballyhooed mediocrity chiefly due to its sluggish screenplay. Adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from the equally so-so novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick – a writer whose ideas for stories always outstripped his ability to render them into good prose — Blade Runner pales in comparison to »

Should a sequel or prequel to Blade Runner really be made?

3 March 2011 8:48 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

As news of a new Blade Runner movie arrives, Ryan wonders whether a worthy sequel or prequel could ever be made…

I'll start by stating the obvious: Blade Runner was a one-off, never-to-be-repeated classic. It was a movie where finances, creative talent and serendipity all came together to produce, not just one of the finest science fiction movies of all time, but one of the most startlingly inventive films ever to come out of Hollywood.

Blade Runner was made at a time when its director was at the height of his creative powers. Fresh from his box office success with Alien, Ridley Scott poured his energies into an adaptation of Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep, and he probably hasn't made a film as individual or beautiful to behold since.

The same could be said of Vangelis, whose woozy, eclectic score for Blade Runner is inarguably the »

Why Blade Runner doesn't need a sequel

2 March 2011 11:37 PM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Yes, it's that time again. Time to start talking Blade Runner 2. Time to resurrect the chatter that was already in full flow by the summer of 1983, when Ridley Scott's poorly-received but luminal Philip K. Dick adaptation simply wouldn't leave the late night circuit, and stayed on even when The Exorcist and The Rocky Horror Picture Show were starting to look tired to drunken students; that reached fever pitch in the early 1990s with the release of the controversial but much-favoured director's cut, first in cinemas and then as a big hit on VHS rental and keepers. That director Scott himself never let entirely die over the years, always citing rights issues with the estate of Philip K. Dick as the impediment to any real consideration of a sequel.

Now Book Of Eli production company Alcon is apparently securing the rights to movie and TV prequels and sequels to the »
