Happy Birthday, Mike Myers!

25 May 2012 7:26 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Party on! Comedian Mike Myers turns 49 today.

Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Myers got his start on Saturday Night Live in 1988. On the show, Myers portrayed hilarious characters, such as Simon -- a British "cheeky monkey" who liked "drawerings" and baths -- and Wayne Campbell, a heavy-metal public-access television show host. The comedian brought the character of Wayne to the big screen in 1992 for the film Wayne's World alongside Tia Carrere and Dana Carvey. Myers has also been the star of the successful Austin Powers and Shrek series.

Myers love of comedy and performing was apparent when he was a child, the comedian told Parade in 2010.

"Dude, this is all a dream. I have done everything I wanted to do. When I was 11, I saw SNL and said, ‘I want to be on that show.’ I didn’t even know the name of it then."

‘MacGruber’ Sequel in the Works?

23 May 2012 8:38 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Dating back to 1980s with The Blues BrothersSaturday Night Live has proven itself a source of potential big-screen spinoffs. Most notably, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey brought their Wayne’s World shtick to theaters in 1992, grossing more than $120 million domestically. However, of the numerous attempts to transition SNL characters from sketch to screen, only those two aforementioned films proved successful enough to warrant sequels.

So, when Will Forte’s long-running MacGyver parody, MacGruber, unsuccessfully made the leap to film in 2010, there was reason to think we’d seen the last of the character, especially given that Forte left the SNL cast the same year. While the film failed to recoup its $10 million budget during its theatrical run, it appears that MacGruber’s creators have tentative plans to resurrect the dimwitted secret agent.

In an interview with Screen Crush, ...

Kristen Wiig's Movie Career: How Other 'SNL' Alums Have Fared

From Eddie Murphy to Will Ferrell and Tim Meadows, 'SNL' has a checkered record of minting movie stars.

Since its debut 37 years ago, "Saturday Night Live" has done two things incredibly well: skewer the day's headlines with a twisted, acid perspective and serve as a launching pad for some of the biggest careers in movie comedy history.

And following her tearful final spin on Saturday night's season finale, it appears clear that the show's ace player, "Bridesmaids" star Kristen Wiig, will be the latest breakout player to make a permanent leap from the stage at Studio 8H to movie stardom. Wiig has already tasted success with an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for "Bridesmaids," and she has at least half a dozen features in various stages of shooting and development. Fox Picks Up Dear Satan For Farrelly Brothers

8 May 2012 4:38 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Saturday Night Live's Church Lady (Dana Carvey) once cleverly pointed out to us that the names Santa and Satan are remarkably similar. What kind of shenanigans might ensue if a child were to mix up two key letters in the name when trying to send a letter to Santa? It sounds like Dear Satan looks to explore such a scenario. Variety posted the news that Fox has acquired Dan Ewen's spec-script Dear Satan for the Farrelly Brothers and Condrum Entertainment to produce. The Farrelly Brothers' most recent film The Three Stooges, which they produced and directed, is in theaters now. Per Variety, Ewen was inspired to write the script by an experience babysitting for a child who misspelled Santa's name when writing to the big bearded man around the holidays. The script tells the story of a 7-year-old girl who does the same thing, inviting Satan to bring her »

Kelly Ripa: Mark Consuelos won't be new 'Live!' co-host

4 May 2012 4:56 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Although she's had husband Mark Consuelos sit in as guest host several times on "Live! with Kelly," host Kelly Ripa says he won't be the one to permanently fill the co-host chair vacated by Regis Philbin in November 2011.

"No one would make me happier than Mark, but he values our marriage and he says that he doesn't see how we could stay married and both do that show," Ripa says in the June 2012 issue of Vanity Fair.

The couple -- who have been married 16 years and are raising three children -- has worked together in the past, though. They met on the set of the soap "All My Children."

Since Philbin left in 2011, Ripa has been trying out a rotating crew of potential guest hosts, including Alec Baldwin, Josh Groban, Nick Lachey, Jerry O'Connell, Neil Patrick Harris, Dana Carvey, Seth Myers and Michael Strahan.

Who do you think should replace Regis as Kelly's co-host? »

SNL History Lesson: Wiig, Sudeikis and Samberg Should Leave After This Year

5 April 2012 2:00 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Kristin Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, and Andy Samberg are all rumored to be on their way out at SNL. Their reps denied the report, and yet it's hard to envision any of them staying much longer. Each is in their seventh season as a performer, and each is steadily in demand for extracurricular projects; a quick survey of recent past performers' departure dates shows that seven or eight seasons seems to be the sweet spot for those with the best outside projects. Look at the biggest success stories out of SNL over the past twenty-odd years. (You can't factor in the original cast or the Eddie Murphy years, since the producer switches led to complete cast turnovers that left the actors no choice but to leave.) Will Ferrell, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey all did seven seasons. Phil Hartman and Amy Poehler did eight apiece, while Adam Sandler was out relatively »

Watch: Dana Carvey Announces 'Wayne's World 3'

29 March 2012 6:13 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

After Will Ferrell stopped by "Conan" Wednesday night to announce the making of "Anchorman 2," guest Dana Carvey had no choice but to one-up the actor by making an announcement of his own: "Wayne's World 3."

Of course it was all a joke, but that didn't stop Carvey from imagining what Wayne and Garth would be like as a couple of middle-aged bros. The receding hairlines, the lingo, the erectile dysfunction.

The sequel talk didn't keep Carvey hung up for long. Soon he segued back into his amazing impressions and political commentary and all was right in the universe.

It won't stop us from wondering if you'd see "Wayne's World 3" if it hit theaters, though. Let us know in the comments. »

'Wayne's World' 20th Anniversary: 25 Things You Didn't Know About Mike Myers' Classic Comedy

14 February 2012 4:30 PM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Want to make a Gen Xer feel old? Tell 'em that 20 years ago today, on February 14, 1992, "Wayne's World" was released in theaters. ("'Wayne's World' is 20? No way?!" "Way!") Lots of now middle-aged folks who spent too long living in their parents' basements (like Wayne and Garth) have fond memories of what may be the funniest film ever spawned from a "Saturday Night Live" sketch, a film that made a bankable movie comedy star out of Mike Myers, introduced the world to Tia Carrere, helped rescue Rob Lowe's career, and spawned countless catchphrases that viewers couldn't stop repeating. ("Schwing!" "We're not worthy!" "That's what she said!") Yet behind the movie's blissful silliness lies a secret story of off-camera bitterness and strife that threatened to keep the film from partying on -- as you'll read below. 1. Myers created the Wayne Campbell character long before "SNL," when he was still in high school. »

Most Unsurprising News of the Day: Dana Carvey Would Make a 'Wayne's World 3'

23 January 2012 12:45 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

It's hard to completely dislike Mike Myers and Dana Carvey's characters Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar. There's probably a little bit of the loveable losers and public access television hosts in all of us. Plus, doesn't everybody know somebody still living in their mother's basement listening to Dream On in the dark and living like it's the '90s?   Would a third theatrical adaptation of the popular Saturday Night Live skit be too dated to draw audiences? Dana Carvey doesn't necessarily think so and recently told TMZ that he'd be willing to do a third Wayne's World movie. With the actor having recently appeared in the terrible Jack and Jill, and co-hosting the Live with Kelly show, it's no shocker that he'd be willing to star...

Carvey and Mike Myers spun off their popular Saturday Night Live sketch into the 1992 blockbuster film, which made nearly $$200m (£129m) at the box office. Carvey is currently in New York City to co-host an episode of Live with Kelly and was questioned by a reporter on the street about a possible third Wayne's World film.
