In/Sight – The Review

23 August 2011 7:53 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

The new thriller In/Sight tells the story of Kaitlyn (Natalie Zea), an ER nurse who, while trying to save a woman named Allison who’s been stabbed, is electrocuted by a backfiring defibrillator. When she awakens, she begins to experience the now-dead victim’s memories and sets out to find her murderer. She becomes involved with the victim’s associates, including her psychiatrist, in an attempt to solve the mystery. Sean Patrick Flanery plays Detective Peter Rafferty, the cop on the case who she naturally falls in love with but it turns out Kaitlyn has her own problems including a mysterious bedridden mother and since no one will believe her story, she begins to doubt her own sanity.

Seen in the right frame of mind with suitably low expectations, this type of low-budget exploitation thriller can offer the opportunity for guilty fun. Bad acting, bare flesh, lots of screams, »

Cartwright Feels Forgotten By Ageist Hollywood

7 August 2011 6:31 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Alien and Witches Of Eastwick star Veronica Cartwright is disappointed by ageism in Hollywood, insisting Susan Sarandon gets all the good parts for mature actresses.

The 62 year old, who has been acting since she was nine, admits she's struggling to land decent film and TV roles because a select group of actresses, headed by Sarandon, are going for everything she'd like to be considered for.

Cartwright tells WENN, "There is a group of women that get all of the roles and it just doesn't seem fair when Susan Sarandon gets everything - and now she's willing to do TV. I want to get offered those parts."

But Cartwright feels her fortunes may be turning, thanks to a pivotal role as a terminal cancer patient in new thriller InSight and interest from Quentin Tarantino.

She explains, "I recently met Q coming back from England and we had a long talk and I told him I'd love to work with him. I heard that he made it mandatory for the cast and crew on Grindhouse to watch Macon County Line and my husband (the late Richard Compton) directed that... I thought, 'This is my intro into Tarantino'. I mean, this guy knew every movie that Richard had done.

"We were on this flight and he was on his knees talking to me. It was so cool... I introduced myself and he said, 'Oh, I loved The Invasion of the Body Snatchers!' He didn't know that I had been married to Richard." »

Hitchcock Taught Child Star Cartwright All About Wine And Steak

7 August 2011 6:31 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Veronica Cartwright learned how to cook the perfect steak and pick fine wine from movie legend Alfred Hitchcock - when she was just 12 years old.

The movie and TV veteran has exploded the Hollywood myth that the revered director hated kids, insisting he was a delight to work with on The Birds and taught her all about cuisine.

Cartwright, who played Tippi Hedren's daughter in the 1963 movie classic, reveals Hitchcock eased her nerves during her audition by chatting to her about his wine collection and how he liked his steak.

She tells WENN, "He was really cool. I liked him and I think he liked me. I used to get his tea every afternoon. He'd get his tea at 4.30 and everything stopped.

"He requested meeting me for The Birds, so I went into his bungalow at Universal (studio). It was just me and him. He found out that I was born in Bristol and he proceeded to tell me that his favourite wine cellar was in Bristol and he started giving me lists of wine that were excellent.

"Then he proceeded to tell me how to cook a steak correctly - when to take it off and then just put a piece of tin foil over it and let it rest and bring it up to the perfect temperature.

"He said, 'This is important because you'll need this when you get married some day.'

"It works. When I barbecue a tenderloin or fillet, you take it off when it hits 125 (degrees) and cover it with tin foil and then it'll bring it up to a perfect rare."

Cartwright celebrated becoming a teenager on the set of the thriller, and she still treasures Hitchcock's gift: "He wrote on a piece of card, 'To the woman I love, Veronica,' drew his face and signed it. It's archived and framed. When I got home there was an enormous bouquet of lilacs and French tulips that was a big as me." »

Cartwright Still Puzzled About Alien Snub

7 August 2011 4:06 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Former child star Veronica Cartwright still has no idea why she was 'robbed' of the role of Ripley in cult sci-fi film Alien days before filming was to start in London.

The British-born actress, who famously played Tippi Hedren's daughter in The Birds, reveals she was in England ready to start work on the film when she discovered she would be playing Lambert in the project, and Sigourney Weaver had been given the lead.

She tells WENN, "I had no idea because I had only read for Ripley and when I got over to England they called up and said, 'Can you go in for wardrobe for Lambert?' I went, 'Oh no, I'm Ripley.'

"I had to call my agent and he said, 'No, you're Ripley.' It was so bizarre and so I had to re-read the script from the point of view of Lambert, and I thought she was a bit of a whiny b**ch, but I think she became the voice of the audience; she was the only sane character, if you think about it."

The role won Cartwright acclaim and a Best Supporting Actress Saturn Award, but she has never had an explanation as to why she didn't end up playing Ripley.

She adds, "Nobody said anything. I guess I must have misunderstood. I brought it up a couple of times."

The actress, who has just wrapped new thriller InSight with Christopher Lloyd and Sean Patrick Flanery, reveals there were plenty of odd moments during the making of the Ridley Scott classic that spoiled the filmmaking experience for her.

She explains, "If you've ever seen the big box set (DVD of Alien) there are nine outtakes and I'm in eight of them. I had a big part in that movie and it was changed, and I'm glad in the Director's Cut (version) they put the hit back in. I just thought Ripley was an a**hole for not letting us in. How dare she. And when I hit her, that felt like it was spontaneous and it's something Lambert would have done.

"Then, when I was doing publicity for the film, I was asked, 'How does it feel to have the (alien's) tail going up between my legs?' Well, they weren't even my legs. They never shot my death... I kept saying, 'When are we going to shoot that?'"

But Scott chose another actor to double for Cartwright on the day of the shoot.

She says, "I was a little p**sed off." »

Watch Flight of the Navigator (1986) Movie Free Online. Randal Kleiser‘s Flight of the Navigator stars Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff DeYoung, and Sarah Jessica ParkerFlight of the Navigator‘s plot synopsis: “a 12-year-old boy named David who is abducted by an alien space craft [in 1978, only to reappear once more in 1986. In the eight years that have passed, David hasn't aged. He] …finds himself caught in a world which has changed around him.”

This is one of those films that dazzled the imagination – if you were near or at the ago of the protagonist – when the film was released: the special effects were that good and still hold up today. The viewer wanted to be in David (Joey Cramer)’s shoes, at least for part of the film e.g. when he is aboard the “Trimaxian Drone Ship from the planet Phaelon”.

I heard that Walt Disney Pictures may remake Flight of the Navigator. The effects would certainly benefit from that but I do »
