New Featurette for Gangster Squad with Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin & Sean Penn

31 December 2012 7:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad is by far one of our most anticipated films of next year.

Originally set for release back in September, surrounded with Oscar buzz, Warner Bros. decided to push the film back in the wake of the summer shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in order to re-film a scene that they felt too closely echoed reality.

Its January release is now very much on the horizon, and we’ve been treated to two excellent exclusives this month, with a great new image and an awesome new trailer. And with less than two weeks before it hits the big screen, the studio have released a new featurette to raise the anticipation that much more.

“Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if »

Your Top Five Comic Book Movies Of 2012 Are...

28 December 2012 11:47 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

You voted for the Best Supervillain and the Best Superhero of 2012. Now it's time to reveal the results of the Best Comic Book Movie of 2012 poll. With thousands of votes cast, here are your picks for the top five flicks of the year...

5. "The Amazing Spider-Man"

Peter Parker's return to the big screen had a lot going for it — an excellent cast led by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, most of all. With two more movies in the "Amazing" series on the way, it's an exciting new time for Spider-film fans … which isn't to say that Marc Webb's first foray into the franchise wasn't without its shortcomings.

4. "Dredd"

Judge Dredd's cinematic revival went largely unseen at the domestic box office, which is a crying shame, considering it was terrific. Karl Urban committed to the always-helmeted arbiter of justice, grunting and gunning his way through scene after scene after scene. »

Matt Damon Still Blue About Turning Down 'Avatar'

27 December 2012 2:07 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Now we're trying to picture Jason Bourne all tall and blue and Na'vi-like.

Matt Damon could've starred in "Avatar" and is still kind of upset that he didn't, according to Hollywood.com. The "Promised Land" star was James Cameron's first choice for the lead role of Jake Sully.

"I particularly wanted to work with James Cameron, and still do," Damon said in an interview with Playboy. "He knew he was the star of that movie and that everyone was going to see it anyway. When he said, 'Look, I'm offering it to you, but if you say no, the movie doesn't need you,' I remember thinking, 'Oh God, not only do I have to say no because of scheduling, but he's going to make a star out of some guy who's going to to start taking jobs from me later.'"

10 Unforgettable Supporting Performances In Biopics

27 December 2012 10:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Biopics are always praised for their lead actor or actress’ realistic or unique portrayal of the subject, but what of the supporting cast? Sure, we do recognize their efforts, they might even receive an Academy Award, but rarely are they honored with something as prestigious as an online comedy list. It’s time to rectify that. Here are some of the more talented, memorable, or uncanny portrayals of people who were important enough to be featured in a movie, but not important enough for that movie to be about them. 10. Josh Brolin as Dan White in Milk It would be really easy to play a person like Dan White one-dimensionally. As a self-proclaimed defender of family and religion against homosexuals and pot smokers in the city of San Francisco, it’s not hard to picture a scowling suit driven to murder out of prejudice and frustration. Brolin didn’t make it so simple, however »

Check out tons of new images from the Ruben Fleisher-directed Gangster Squad, starring Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Nick Nolte. The Warner Bros. Pictures release opens in theaters from January January 11th, and looks simply outstanding judging by the latest trailer I saw. The story is based on La Times series "Tales from the Gangster Squad" penned by Paul Lieberman. Also in the very talented cast are Michael Peña, Sullivan Stapleton, Frank Grillo, Robert Patrick and Mireille Enos. Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. »

The James Clayton Column: 2012 - the mirrorverse movie year

Feature James Clayton Dec 21, 2012

With 2012 drawing to a close, James looks back over the year's movies - as seen from a strange alternate universe...

So 2012, then. Helluva ride, huh? I saw many films and some of them were films within films and films about films and now we’ve all ended up in a disaster movie of our own at the arrival of the Mayan apocalypse that Mel Gibson warned us about way back when. We didn’t even get to enjoy Christmas.

Never mind though. Before Jaguar Paw came screaming out of the Mesoamerican rainforest and we all perished as doomsday struck, we watched some brilliant movies. The past calendar year has been packed with superb cinematic releases, and looking back from the other side of oblivion, I see that we were spoiled.

Unfortunately, from this standpoint on the flipside of forever, I can’t actually see the old timeline of reality. »

Top 50: Movies to Look Forward to in 2013

19 December 2012 4:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

2012 has been a rather fantastic year at the cinema and 2013 promises to follow suit. Jon and I thought it may be nice to details 50 of the movies that we’re most looking forward to seeing in our 2013 round-up post. We’ve created a list in release-date order of what we believe have the potential to fabulous (and hopefully not dreadful!). We’ve added both UK and Us release dates to all the posts to cover the majority of readers to HeyUGuys so apologies if you’re not from one of those regions. Each post also contains the director and cast listing as well as our own thoughts on what we hope from the movie in question.

No doubt some of these will be shockingly rubbish with others not making the list ending up to be some of our favourites but until this time next year, we simply won’t know! »

Josh Brolin Talks Oldboy Remake and Jason Reitman’s Labor Day; Says They Shot Long Improvised Takes for Oldboy Motel Scenes

18 December 2012 5:14 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When it was first announced that an American remake of director Park Chan-wook’s South Korean revenge film Oldboy was in the works, fans were understandably wary of the prospect.  Then Spike Lee signed on to direct.  If anything can be assumed of a Spike Lee film, it’s that it’s definitely not going to be a commercial cash-in.  Lee cares deeply about artistic integrity, so it’s with cautious optimism that his remake of Oldboy is being anticipated. Steve sat down with star Josh Brolin last weekend to talk about his upcoming crime drama Gangster Squad, and the actor also took some time to discuss Oldboy.  During the interview, Brolin talked extensively about how Lee’s Oldboy differs from the original, reaching out to Park Chan-wook for his blessing, the action scenes, and he revealed that Lee shot some extended, improvised takes for Brolin’s scenes in the motel room. »
