Magic in Doctor Strange will not be “explained away scientifically”

11 August 2016 6:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in 2011, Marvel opted to give a scientific explanation for Asgard, positioning Thor and company as an advanced alien civilization as opposed to introducing magic into the grounded world establishing by Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

However, that’s not going to be the case with Doctor Strange, as director Scott Derrickson has revealed that the film will introduce “real” magic into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that the Sorcerer Supreme’s powers won’t be “explained away scientifically”.

“Magic is magic in this movie,” Derrickson tells GamesRadar. “It’s not something that’s explained away scientifically. It’s not something that’s easy to define. As magic should be. Magic should be mysterious. There’s mystery to magic and there’s mystery to the tone of the movie. Mystery is a good thing.”

Marvel’s Doctor Strange receives a first TV spot

6 August 2016 1:10 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In just a little under three months, Doctor Strange will look to continue Marvel Studios’ winning streak when it hits theaters, but, in order for it to reach the same box office heights as Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man, the studio will need to unveil a slew of promotional materials to market the movie to common moviegoers between now and its release date. Having said that, the first TV spot for Doctor Strange, which highlights experiencing the movie in Cinemark Xd, has been released and can be see below…

Much like recent TV spots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Wonder Woman, the spot is mainly comprised of footage seen in previous trailers, aside from one or two new shots here and there. However, those who are interested in seeing more of the same mind-bending special effects or Doctor Strange do his cool cape flip will certainly enjoy the clip. »

Trailer Trashin’: San Diego Comic-Con Movie Trailer Roundup

5 August 2016 4:04 PM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

Hello again, dear readers. This week sees the release of Suicide Squad, the latest DC Comics film adaptation. In the meantime, the latest Trailer Trashin’ is my quick take on some of the major movie trailers to come out of the recent San Diego Comic-Con.

  Doctor Strange

Premise: After Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the world’s top neurosurgeon, is injured in a car accident that ruins his career, he sets out on a journey of healing, where he encounters the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who becomes Strange’s mentor in the mystic arts.

My take: After the huge superhero brawl of Captain America: Civil War earlier this summer, the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes things in a very different direction. This is an exposition-heavy trailer, laying out the basics of who Doctor Strange is and the nature of his powers to help general audiences get on-board with »

Benedict Cumberbatch discusses Stephen Strange’s character arc in Doctor Strange

1 August 2016 3:06 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Following its Comic-Con panel last weekend – during which we saw the release of the second trailer – Benedict Cumberbatch has been chatting to io9 about Marvel’s Doctor Strange, and the character arc we can expect for Dr. Stephen Strange.

“He controls his fate and the fate of people under his knife—by skill, by hard work, by stuff literally at his disposal at the end of his hands,” states Cumberbatch. “And the metaphor of him losing that through the crash, the tendons, the muscles, every manufacture of damage you can imagine, is sort of an emblem for how, when you lose control, you have to find something else. He finds this other, ultimately different way of thinking about things which is through Eastern mysticism and, beyond that, what that opens up into other dimensions. Literally.”

Benjamin Bratt Might Be In Marvel's Doctor Strange

26 July 2016 2:57 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Apparently a new cast member has been listed as one of the stars for Doctor Strange. This comes in the form of Benjamin Bratt being listed among such ones as Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, and Rachel McAdams. Even though the actor is listed in the film,  there is no indication or idea about who or what Bratt may be playing. For the most part, a majority of notable roles in the film have been filled. But, a certain flaming headed freak hasn't been added to the film or even cast...

Maybe that is who Bratt is playing? Fans have noticed that a good chunk of Bratt's latest work consists of a lot of voice over Stuff. So that raises the question on whether or not he may actually be portraying the classic Strange villain Dormammu. Dormammu is such a powerful character in the comics that it has taken Doctor Strange »

New ‘Doctor Strange’ Poster Reveals Benjamin Bratt Role – But Who Does He Play?

26 July 2016 12:17 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Benjamin Bratt is in Disney-Marvel’s upcoming comic book movie “Doctor Strange,” and the way his casting was revealed is strange in itself. Some eagle-eyed folks noticed Bratt’s name on a new poster for the film (h/t McU Exchange), released during last week’s San Diego Comic-Con. The poster offered no surprises except for the addition of the 52-year-old actor, known for his roles in TV’s “Law & Order,” 2004 comic book movie “Catwoman” and this year’s “Ride Along 2.” Also Read: 'Doctor Strange' Trippy New Trailer Shows Buff, Cape-Twirling Benedict Cumberbatch (Video) “Doctor Strange,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, »

Benjamin Bratt has a role in Doctor Strange

Thanks to the eagle-eyed folks over at McU Exchange, it is now known that actor Benjamin Bratt will have a role in this year’s Doctor Strange.

Many believed that the cast list for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe installment had already been released in its entirety, but Bratt’s involvement, which was revealed when his name was spotted at the bottom of the newest Doctor Strange Comic-Con poster, proves otherwise. Who knows, if this bit of casting news was kept secret until now, maybe other actors will pop up on screen and surprise audience members when the movie hit theaters. Currently, the actor’s character in the film is unknown.

Bratt Joins & Multiverse Talk Of "Doctor Strange"

The release by Marvel Studios of a new poster for Scott Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" film over the weekend has had fans talking as the one-sheet includes a previously unannounced new addition to the already impressive cast - Benjamin Bratt.

According to Cbm, Marvel has not made any announcements relating to the film to indicate the 52-year-old actor is even a part of it, but with his inclusion here it has already led to speculation as to whom he might play. The most likely character is that of the master of the Dark Dimension himself Dormammu who will likely be saved for the sequel.

The film is set to incorporate the mystic into the Marvel universe and allow for some trippy visuals and exploration of the multiverse on screen. Speaking with Comicbook.com in the wake of the Comic Con panel on Saturday night, Derrickson says:
