Michael Imperioli: An Original Portrait

24 September 2009 12:44 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

To benefit Golden Bridge for Tibet, Michael Imperioli held a preview screening last week of his new film "The Hungry Ghosts." On behalf of 'Golden Bridge', Tibetan Lama Namkha Rinpoche spoke to an audience that included "Sopranos" family members Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Robert Iler, and Lorraine Bracco among others. Michael Imperioli is unquestionably an enormously impressive and engaging actor. In fact, he's a great actor. With "The Hungry Ghosts" he adds writer/director to his resume and pulls masterful performances from Steven R. Schirripa, Sharon Angela, Nick Sandow, and Aunjanue Ellis. I asked Imperioli to sit for my Huffington Post portrait series, and to write a few words about his new film "The Hungry Ghosts". Rip Punk Poet Jim Carroll

14 September 2009 3:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Punk poet and author of The Basketball Diaries Jim Carroll passed away September 11th at the age of 60. His autobiography, which detailed his transformation from prep school basketball player to an increasingly desperate drug addict, was adapted for the big screen in 1995. Leonardo DiCaprio's raw performance as Carroll bolstered the young actor's rising star; the film also featured Lorraine Bracco as Jim's mom and Mark Wahlberg as one of his teammates and drug buddies.

Carroll also contributed two songs to the soundtrack, "Catholic Boy" and "People Who Died, " which was also used in the soundtracks for E.T. and the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead.

The rocker and writer was also featured in the documentary Poetry in Motion, along with other famous modern poets like Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, Amiri Baraka, and Anne Waldman. Check out some clips from the movie here, courtesy of Monika Bartyzel. After the jump »

Sopranos Cast Members Suggest A Movie Could Still Happen

4 August 2009 8:35 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

A Sopranos movie? That's a rumor we haven't heard for a while. Edie Falco is doing her own TV show on Showtime, James Gandolfini is harming American-British relations in In the Loop, and everyone else seemed to have moved on to their own things. Some cast members, though, are making noise that, not only is a movie still in the works, a script has been written. Talking to New York Daily News (granted, not the most reputable of sources), Lorraine Bracco said "We've all talked to [series creator] David [Chase] to give him a kick in the booty to get [the screenplay] right." Bracco also denied rumors that the hold-up on the movie has been Gandolfini's desire to move away from Tony Soprano. "I don't think it's that at all," says Bracco about Gandolfini's supposed cold feet. "I think it's really trying to get the right script. Without the right ... »

Denzel Washington Discusses The Taking of Pelham 123

11 June 2009 4:10 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

In his third film with director Tony Scott (Man on Fire), Academy Award winner Denzel Washington (Training Day) pretended to be a "regular Joe" in order to get into character for his role as an Mta dispatcher in The Taking of Pelham 123:

I ate a lot and kept getting smaller and smaller sweaters to wear. I spilled coffee on myself. I liked the idea that when they hand Garber a gun he's never held one before. He was an ordinary guy in an extraordinary situation with this cloud over his head. He didn't come to work knowing that he was going to get an opportunity to redeem himself. It was something he felt that he needed to do and as he got into it deeper and deeper, he went for it. Like Man on Fire, this film is a "reimagining" of a previous movie. Graham Upset About Film Takeover

20 May 2009 6:35 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Boogie Nights star Heather Graham fears an over-zealous producer will ruin the movie experience which led to her finding romance - by taking over the project.

The actress met boyfriend Yaniv Raz on the set of Son of Mourning when he directed her into his arms - and the couple is blissfully happy.

But there are storm clouds on the horizon - their film together has been nabbed by a movie executive, who is planning an overhaul.

Disgruntled Graham says, "Yaniv wrote and directed the film but the producer kind of took it over three quarters of the way through and now I think that maybe he's gonna screw it up.

"First of all, it's my boyfriend's movie, secondly he's very talented and I saw it and it was really good. I think the producer is like a frustrated writer/director, so he wasn't brave enough to actually do his own movie so he just took over my boyfriend's movie, so it's really sad.

"Usually the producer chooses the director he believes in and supports his vision. Yaniv is devastated."

The film features former The Sopranos co-stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Lorraine Bracco , and is currently listed as being in post-production. There's no official release date. »

Scenes We Love: Goodfellas

14 May 2009 9:45 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

A few days ago, I asked what director's world you would most like to live in, and the answers have been a lot of fun to read. (Some of you are a lot braver than I am -- um, Mad Max? Damn! We'll probably be there in a few years!) As I was browsing through scenes that I loved, trying to decide on which one of the multitude to post, I realized that I had to be true to my darker retro side, and vote Goodfellas. I desperately want to be Lorraine Bracco, married to the mob via Ray Liotta (who has never looked finer), with piles of money and a constant supply of gifts that fell off a truck. I'd much prefer the careless morality of the Mafia to the tight, suburban Sirk -- and I'd get to keep the clothes, if not the popsicle lighting and decor.

Bracco Calls Gandolfini's Bluff

6 May 2009 9:10 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Lorraine Bracco is convinced her former Sopranos co-star James Gandolfini will reprise his role in the hit TV show if bosses take the mob series to the big screen.

Bracco played a therapist treating Gandolfini's mafia boss character Tony Soprano in the long-running drama series, which came to an end in 2007.

Rumours of a movie adaptation have rumbled on since the last episode aired and the actress admits she's anxious to take her role to the big screen.

Creator David Chase and star Gandolfini have always dismissed the suggestion, with the actor stating in January, "If I was broke, I would do it."

However, Bracco insists her former co-star isn't driven solely by money - and she's convinced he could change his mind.

She tells the New York Daily News, "That's ridiculous! A good story... would be the key." »
