Producer William Horberg, who is wrapping up Cold Mountain in Romania for director Anthony Minghella, is exiting his post at Mirage Enterprises to form Wonderland Films with a two-year, first-look pact at DreamWorks Pictures. The deal for Horberg comes after an 11-year run at Mirage, where he worked alongside company partners Sydney Pollack and Minghella as an in-house producer on such high-profile fare as Minghella's The Talented Mr. Ripley, starring Matt Damon; Peter Howitt's Sliding Doors, starring Gwyneth Paltrow; Tom Tykwer's Heaven, starring Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi; and, more recently, Phillip Noyce's The Quiet American, starring Michael Caine. Through his new deal at DreamWorks, Horberg will open up office space for Wonderland and produce projects for the studio as well as team with studio co-heads Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald on specific projects and serve as a consultant on the DreamWorks slate. »

J.Lo Misses Gwyneth At VH1/Vogue Awards

17 October 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Latina sensation Jennifer Lopez missed bumping into love rival Gwyneth Paltrow at Tuesday night's VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards - because the Oscar-winning actress is mourning the death of her father Bruce. Both beauties were honored at the star-studded ceremony in New York's Radio City Music Hall - J.Lo picked up "Most Influential Star of the Year" title, while Gwyneth was applauded for her premiere outfits with the "Red Carpet" award. But Lopez, who is now dating Paltrow's ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck was spared any awkward moments with the Shakespeare In Love star. While a demure Lopez, dressed in a low-key flared white miniskirt, white shirt and black sweater and a glowing fake tan collected her trophy from Donatella Versace, Gwyneth stayed away as she and her family try to come to terms with the sudden passing of writer/director Bruce following a massive heart attack and pneumonia complications in Italy earlier this month. British screen star Hugh Grant was named "Leading Man," while Tom Ford was presented with the coveted "Designer Of The Year" trophy by John Travolta. Rapper and actress Eve was given "Breakthrough Style" award and Victoria's Secret beauty Karolina Kurkova beat Liya Kibede and Maggie Rizer to the "Model Of The Year" title. Tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams joined screen, catwalk and music stars Claire Danes, LL Cool J, Naomi Campbell, Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts at the ceremony, hosted by Will & Grace stunner Debra Messing. »

The Vine: 'Fountain' pen is Pitt's peeve

30 August 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Hollywood has been buzzing all week about the rumor that Brad Pitt is itching to pull out of Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi pic The Fountain. All involved insist the actor hasn't decamped, but sources close to the production are claiming that Pitt disliked the script's latest draft, for which preproduction has already begun as the clock ticks down on an October start date in Australia. Cate Blanchett and Ellen Burstyn are already in place, and the studio is said to have rented Pitt a beachfront mansion to house the actor during the shoot. There has even been talk that Warners could insist Pitt pay back the $18 million already invested in the project as an exit fee, though his reps deny that conversation has taken place. While Warners has been trying to keep Pitt aboard, Fountain helmer Darren Aronofsky, who signed with CAA last month, has been scrambling to find a possible replacement, turning to his old agents at ICM -- the commissioning agents on the film -- for help in assessing Mel Gibson's availability. (Gibson was unavailable.) But all could still end well: To keep its options open, the studio is believed to have made an offer to Russell Crowe to step into Fountain, while George Clooney's name also has been mentioned as a possibility. Pitt is unlikely to become persona non grata at Warners, where he and producer Brad Grey have a deal. In fact, a Fountain-less Pitt could end up playing Achilles in the Wolfgang Petersen-directed Troy -- that possibility already has actors like Eric Bana interested in playing opposite him as Hector. And Pitt would likely receive far more than his $2 million "Fountain" tab to attack Troy. »

Brad Moans Down Under

25 July 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood star Brad Pitt has upset residents of an Australian tourist resort - by refusing to shoot his new movie there. The movie star is moving Down Under for six months while he makes new film The Fountain, with Cate Blanchett and Johnny Depp, there. The film was due to be shot in studios on Queensland's Gold Coast - but according to British tabloid the Daily Mirror, Brad has been urging movie bosses to move the shoot to nearby Cairns, because he thinks the Gold Coast is "a shlocky tourist area". A source told the newspaper, "Brad, who was introduced to Cairns by Keanu Reeves said it had great food, great ambience and the locals leave you alone because they're used to big names." The Mexican star isn't the only big Hollywood name to disapprove of the West Coast resort. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.vowed never too return after shooting the Scooby-Doo movie on the Gold Coast. »

Stunning Australian Cate Blanchett is more than willing to hide her natural beauty if a role requires it. The attractive actress is known for her chameleon-like screen presence, and admits she has no qualms about looking less than perfect when she's in character. You have to be prepared to shed your natural vanity, and if the part requires it, shed parts of yourself that perhaps make you feel more secure." »

Kevin Spacey The Fertility Expert

9 January 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Oscar-winning star Kevin Spacey is taking all the credit after two of his latest leading ladies became pregnant on the set of his new film. Of Spacey's three female co-stars on new movie The Shipping News, both Cate Blanchett and Julianne Moore conceived while the film was in production in Newfoundland, Canada last year . And, even though he fathered neither child, Spacey is convinced he played a part in the conception - because of a bike ride. The American Beauty star says, "Both Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett were pregnant. All three ladies had ridden on my quad bike." The third leading lady was fellow Oscar-winner Dame Judi Dench, and Kevin admits despite all his efforts, the British actress remained 'without child' after their time together. Blanchett's Big Secret

4 January 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Movie stunner Cate Blanchett kept her pregnancy secret from movie bosses for as long as possible - so they wouldn't tell her to take it easy. Blanchett, who recently gave birth to a son, Dashiell John, might have avoided the daunting physical challenges she faced in Charlotte Gray had she let the truth be known. But Blanchett soldiered on, playing a Scottish woman who goes behind enemy lines to join the French Resistance in the Second World War. She says, "I didn't tell anyone at first, not even Gillian Armstrong, the director. It wasn't their fault, and I wanted to do my job. But it was bloody cold, the worst winter in Britain in years, and the first week we had to go through this really nasty military obstacle course." »
