As expected, Netflix has renewed its One Day at a Time TV show remake for a second season. The first season of this family sitcom just dropped to Netflix on January 6th. The original series starred Bonnie Franklin, Pat Harrington Jr., Valerie Bertinelli, and Mackenzie Phillips. Netflix has given a second-season order to the revival of “One Day at a Time.”
The Sony Pictures TV comedy, from Norman Lear and showrunners Mike Royce and Gloria Calderon Kellett, bowed in January to rapturous reviews. The multicamera laffer puts a contemporary spin on the groundbreaking 1970s CBS sitcom about a divorced mother. Justina Machado stars as a newly single mother trying to raise her two children, with the help of her mother.
Netflix has ordered 13 episodes for the second season. “One Day at a Time” marked a triumphant return to series TV by Lear, the legendary 94-year-old producer of such indelible TV hits as “All in the Family,” “Maude” and “Good Times.” The original series, which ran from 1975 to 1984, starred Bonnie Franklin, Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli.

Mary Tyler Moore's last scripted TV appearance was perfect, in a way. Moore, who passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, Jan. 25, was last seen on a TV sitcom: Hot in Cleveland. But this wasn't just any regular old guest appearance. Moore appeared alongside her Mary Tyler Moore costars for a reunion in the episode called "Love is All Around," a nod to the show's famous theme song. This was Moore's second appearance on the show that starred Betty White, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Valerie Bertinelli. She played Diane, an old bowling buddy of White's Elka. One Day at a Time, the groundbreaking Norman Lear sitcom about a divorced mother of two, is being rebooted for Netflix, with season one premiering on Jan. 6. The show, which originally ran for nine seasons between 1975 and 1984 with stars Bonnie Franklin, Mackenzie Phillips, Valerie Bertinelli and Pat Harrington Jr., is now set in Los Angeles with Justina Machado and Rita Moreno as the matriarchs of a three-generation Cuban-American family.
If the original’s bold storylines are any indication, the reboot of One Day at a Time will also give a current voice to countless struggling and striving families around the country and offer laughter through tears and tough times.
