DVD Reviews: Beauty And The Beast - The Enchanted Christmas and Belle’S Magical World

By Todd Garbarini

Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none

Beauty and the Beast was a very successful film for Walt Disney upon its was released on Wednesday, November 13, 1991. The follow-up to the studio’s highly praised The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast proved that a new generation of audiences had a desire for animated film fare. As a result of this success, Disney decided to create another adventure with Belle and the Beast. The result was Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, which originally was intended as a theatrical continuation of the story, but ended up being produced for home video in 1997. The film may appear to be a sequel, but it is not. The action actually takes place within the timeline that occurs in the original film: after the fight with the wolves, but before the fight with Gaston.

The Plot: Set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

The Buzz: Director Martin Scorsese is not known for his family films. Throughout his career Scorsese has stuck to churning out gritty/grisly street films, realistic & vibrant tales about the harshness of life, about the hard-nose battle of good versus evil, of right versus wrong (of moral relativity), and of psychoses versus neuroses. His films are fairly hardcore and as thus are very often hard-r. His latest offering in Hugo, looks to be an »

Beast (Robby Benson), Belle (Paige O'Hara), Beauty and the Beast The Lion King 3D, a movie originally released in standard format back in 1994, has become the sleeper hit this early fall in North America. Whereas most new releases are bombing right and left, The Lion King 3D has brought in nearly $80 million domestically (it'll pass that mark today) and about $20 million internationally since its rerelease two-and-a-half weeks ago. No one needed an Mba or facsimile to predict that Disney — and likely other studios — would be rereleasing old 2D movies converted to the 3D format. Next in line for Disney are Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and the Pixar titles Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Beauty and the Beast 3D begins its limited theatrical run on January 13, 2012. Blu-ray 3D Review: Beauty And The Beast 3D Is A Strong Reminder of the Value of the Medium

3 October 2011 2:18 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Disney don’t often make terrible films: even those counted as the worst in the stable are still head and shoulders above 90% of the other animated releases that enter the market under a different banner, and it’s only a matter of relativity when it comes to classifying what is a good Disney and what is a bad. In some cases though, no such debate even gets off the ground.

Most of those cases involve those films which fall within the Classics “vault”, and there are some which excel even in that auspicious company. Beauty and the Beast is firmly one of the finest. Aside from being a watershed moment in the genesis of Disney’s animation, thanks to that still astounding ballroom scene, and it’s CGI innovation, it is a richly rounded, beautifully drawn story that has some of the most compelling characters in the canon, including the best human villain, »

The Ru? Fan Appreciation Instant DVD Collection Giveaway

14 September 2011 8:28 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

First off, I have to tell you that this page may load slow. We're making an awful lot of calls to the Amazon Api here, and that's bound to monkey with things. If you have no idea what that means... it's shiny. Please note also that, for the same reason, you may find, depending on traffic, that not all of the Amazon details will load properly. I apologize for that, it's just the nature of the beast, and the fact that the Api wasn't really meant for such things. If you refresh, it will probably fix.

You may have heard me mention this giveaway quite a while ago, and it's taken me a long time to figure out what sort of format to put things in, and I kept added things. Eventually it became too much to really give any kind of run down on the items, so I decided »

Joanne Woodward on TCM: Rachel, Rachel; Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams

15 August 2011 7:57 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Joanne Woodward never became a major box-office draw. No matter. Woodward was one of the best film actresses of the 20th century, as can be attested by her work in The Three Faces of Eve; Rachel, Rachel (right); Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams; The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds; and Mr. and Mrs. Bridge. Woodward's absence from the big screen after a supporting role in Jonathan Demme's 1993 AIDS drama Philadelphia is indeed cinema's loss. On Tuesday, August 16, Turner Classic Movies will be presenting 13 Joanne Woodward movies as part of TCM's "Summer Under the Stars" film series. [Joanne Woodward Movie Schedule.] Four of those are TCM premieres: Leo McCarey's weak comedy Rally Round the Flag, Boys! (1958), with Paul Newman as Woodward's love interest, and Joan Collins sultrily stealing the show; Burt Reynolds' highly successful black comedy The End (1978), about a dying man's attempts at killing himself with the assistance of a »

Friends with Benefits

The Stars: Mila KunisJustin TimberlakePatricia Clarkson

The Plot: A guy (Timberlake) and girl (Kunis) try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it’s not long before they learn that they want something more.

The Buzz: Hmm, this premise is strangely familiar, and comes with an even more docile cast than No Strings Attached. I still have some faith in the film itself though, as director Will Gluck’s previous entry was the excellent Easy A. Still, Gluck didn’t write Easy A, and that’s what was great about that film, the writing. Two new relatively untested writers penned Friends with Benefits – yeah, I’m right back to doubting this film. But »

Laid off TV stars: Who is out of job next season

20 May 2011 2:48 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Charlie Sheen isn’t the only high-profile actor who’s out of job next season.

Networks chased after a slew of stars during pilot season, then left a bunch out in the cold once they decided which series were making their schedule. Among the survivors are Tim Allen (Last Man Standing), James Van Der Beek (Apartment 23), Christina Applegate (Up All Night) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Ringer). But for every name that made the cut, there’s at least two that are back to pounding the pavement for work.

One of the biggest names left in the cold is Ethan Hawke, »

Jazz Raycole Joins Cast Of NBC Comedy Pilot “Brave New World”

Jazz Raycole (Everybody Hates Chris, Jericho, First Place) has joined the cast of the upcoming NBC comedy pilot for a new series called Brave New World.

The comedy takes place in an office space, and follows an eclectic group characters at a theme park called Pilgrim Village, that specializes in “recreations of New England in 1637.”

Jazz Raycole, who also had a role in 1995′s Waiting To Exhale, will play “a young African American actress who portrays a white Pilgrim.”

I’ve never really paid attention to Raycole’s work, but I’m laughing already, based on that description

She’ll be starring alongside Robbie Benson (who’s appeared in numerous TV series) and Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia).
