AMAs Cut J-Lo's Fall 'Out of Respect,' Though She Meant to Do It

23 November 2009 11:00 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

It's a shame that the highly rated American Music Awards chose to cut Jennifer Lopez's fall during her performance of "Louboutins" for the west coast feed, because -- uh, P.S., she meant to do that. P.P.S. Duh. Jenny from the Awkward Blocking appeared on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show to discuss the event in question, and her explanation will reassure you that she's Martha Graham wrapped in Mikhail Baryshnikov hidden in Fatima Robinson. »

Nine Men We Still Miss: AIDS Robs the World of Some of the Brightest Lights

12 November 2009 2:29 PM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

The original reality show broke ground with Pedro.

On November 11, 1994, the day after the final episode of The Real World: San Francisco aired, Pedro Zamora succumbed to complications from AIDS. Most of the world had only known him since June of that year, but the 22-year-old had made the most of the short time he’d spent on earth.

Born in Cuba, raised in Miami, Pedro was diagnosed as HIV+ while still in high school, and had dedicated his life to being an educator on the disease.  Prior to appearing on the groundbreaking MTV reality show, he had already spoken about the disease with Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, and before a session of Congress.

But it was by appearing on The Real World: San Francisco that he managed to have a global impact. For many young people, Pedro was the first real, out gay man they ever saw »

James Franco Ditches UCLA Commencement Speech

4 June 2009 11:56 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

When I graduated from Nyu back in 2006, the big-name speaker was resident “Sex and the City” Russian (and world-class ballet dancer) Mikhail Baryshnikov. That was awesome and all, but he didn’t win my heart like Daniel Desario from “Freaks and Geeks,” a.k.a. actor James Franco.

If Franco were coming to my school to make the commencement speech, I would have died. I mean, he is a brainy babe. But the kids over at UCLA didn’t feel that way and decided they didn’t want James to make their speech, as planned. They didn’t think he lived up to the “caliber” of speaker the university deserves. Clearly, they don’t know the gift that was being bestowed upon them.

James, who is never one to go where he isn’t wanted, has decided not to deliver the speech on June 12. Why? Well, he’s busy being an actor! »
