Walt Disney Pictures have released a brand new promo for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, the latest instalment in the Pirates franchise, which is due to hit this summer.

Johnny Depp returns to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, while Javier Bardem plays the villain Captain Salazar of the title.

The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, »

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 TV Trailer Goes Hunting for Jack Sparrow

18 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Today, Disney released a TV trailer for their upcoming summer sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. There isn't much new footage in this one minute spot. But it is cut quicker, and comes across a lot more flashier than the full-length trailer that debuted just a few weeks ago. It sure makes the sequel look like a rousing adventure that is more in tune with the original than some of the later movies.

Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Sean Penn’s Cannes Disaster ‘The Last Face’ Moved to a Summer VOD Release

23 March 2017 9:14 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

There are movies that arrive with bad buzz, and then there’s “The Last Face,” Sean Penn’s now-infamous romance between aid workers crossing African conflict zones. The film has been moved to a summer release, and will come out on VOD first, according to reps for the title and its U.S. distributor, Saban Films.

The decision was made “months ago due to talent schedules,” Saban reps told IndieWire. No new date has been set.

The film, Penn’s fifth directorial effort, scored two bankable leads in Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem — but faced a firing squad when it premiered at Cannes last May, where it competed for the Palme d’Or and was greeted with a rapturous chorus of boos. Critics chided Penn for making a treacly white-savior movie that attempts to shame its audience with bloody war imagery. “The narrative panders on every level,” wrote IndieWire’s Eric Kohn. »

Saban’s Feature Film Label Banks on VOD Releases, Genre Breakouts

22 March 2017 10:30 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In 2014, after financing features and TV shows for some three decades, Haim Saban was ready to establish a North American film label of his own. “With the very rapid expansion of distribution platforms, we want to be in the supply chain with as many types of programs as we can,” he says.

Yet when former Rlj Entertainment exec Bill Bromiley approached the billionaire’s L.A.-based investment firm Saban Capital Group with the idea for Saban Films, it took a bit of convincing.

“I pitched a business plan based in the premium VOD world, and there were many people that I had to get through in order to get Haim to approve it,” says Saban Films president Bromiley. “He was concerned that the film business could be very volatile, and wasn’t interested in taking huge chances, so he asked lots of questions.”

The Eight Performances Cut From Terrence Malick Movies We’d Most Like to See

13 March 2017 4:50 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

If you know what happened to Adrien Brody on “The Thin Red Line,” you know that filming scenes for a Terrence Malick movie doesn’t guarantee actually being in a Terrence Malick movie. Brody, who was originally positioned as the film’s lead, didn’t know until its premiere that his role had been drastically reduced; Christopher Plummer had a similar experience on “The New World.”

In the grand scheme of things, they’re lucky ones: More than a few actors have had their parts excised entirely, including one of the would-be stars of “Song to Song.” With that Austin-set romantic drama opening this week, it seemed like a good time to remind ourselves of what could have been.

With just over a month to go before the line-up for this year’s Cannes Film Festival is unveiled in Paris, Croisette predictions and wish lists are hitting the web thick and fast.

Screen’s network of correspondents and contributors around the world have been putting out feelers to get a sense of what might or might not make it to the Palais du Cinéma or one of the parallel sections.

Just like the Oscars, this year’s festival is likely to unfold amid a politically-charged atmosphere. Beyond Trump and the rise of populism across the globe, France will be digesting the result of its own presidential election on May 7. Against this background, the festival will be feting its 70th edition.

International Poster For Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Gathers Sparrow’s Swashbuckling Crew

8 March 2017 10:05 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Captain Jack Sparrow, the perpetual underdog of the seven seas, assembles his swashbuckling crew in the new international poster for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Flanked by Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), Henry (Brenton Thwaites), Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and the glowering Salazar (Javier Bardem), Johnny Depp’s eccentric hero is placed front and center. Confronted by unspeakable evil, Sparrow will soon face his greatest adventure to date, after Salazar claws his way out of the so-called Devil’s Triangle seeking revenge.

Armed with a crew of undead pirates – hence the title – Dead Men Tell No Tales looks to place a laser focus on the bitter rivalry between Bardem and Johnny Depp’s warring seamen, and it’ll be fascinating to see how franchise newcomers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg balance that dynamic with the blockbuster action the series is celebrated for. Oscar-winning director reveals more details about his upcoming Spanish-language project.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, the two-time Oscar-winning director of The Salesman and A Separation, has confirmed his next film will start shooting in Spain in September, with a cast including Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. It should be ready for next year.

However Farhadi revealed the high-profile, real-life couple will “not necessarily” play an on-screen couple in the Spanish-language feature.

Once again there are different couples in my film, not only one,” Farhadi told Screen, of what is a recurring theme of his work.

“The film is again about family and family relationships. But there are also some new aspects in it. Yes [Cruz and Bardem] are in the film but they are not necessarily a couple in the film.”

The non-Spanish speaker said he has written the script for the new film in Farsi and it has been translated into Spanish. “I don’t speak Spanish,” he explained »
