Major League 4 in the Works?

6 July 2009 10:34 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Even if you're not the kind of super fan [1] that would take a road trip to Cleveland for a Rick Vaughn bobblehead [2], I think most of us can agree that Major League is one of the best sports comedies ever made. It ranked #4 in our poll [3] a couple of years ago, but having rewatched part of it on TV not too long ago, I can definitely say that it still holds up. Well, with 2009 being the 20th anniversary of the original film, it seems that Warner Brothers may be working on something else for the fans as well... a little something called Major League 4! According to /Film [4], Bob Uecker (who played commentator Harry Doyle) was recently broadcasting from Wrigley Field where he mentioned that he had been in contact with the creative team behind the first three films, and that they are indeed developing a fourth Major League movie. Major League 4 In The Works

6 July 2009 1:57 AM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

Will Wild Thing return to the plate for another at-bat? Bob Uecker revealed while chatting up the game at Wrigley stadium last week that he's recently had contact from the creative team behind the first three Major League films, and that they're developing a Major League 4. For those who might not remember, Uecker played commentator Harry Doyle in the original 1989 film, which was about a loser underdog baseball team which becomes a World Series contender much to the surprise of their manager, who was betting on their failure. The last film in the series, Major League: Back to the Minors, followed Gus (Scott Bakula) as he became the manager for a minor league team. and later retired to the box where he proceeded to chat up the game, but also his involvement in the "Major League" films. Uecker confirmed that a "Major League 4" isin the works. He's apparently had ...

Watch: Matt Damon goes for laughs in 'The Informant'

6 July 2009 1:52 AM, PDT | From Hitfix.com | See recent Hitfix news

Every once in a while a movie comes completely out of the blue to make your must-see list.  That looks to be the case with Steven Soderbergh's "The Informant."  As the trailer below reveals, this farce finds Damon playing an informant for a big corporate company that specializes in corn-based products.  When the government asks him to become a snitch he goes completely overboard because, well, he appears to be a complete dufus. Plus, the flick features the big screen return of the one and only Scott Bakula.  What's not to like?"The Informant" opens nationwide September 18.

Matt Damon Loves Corn!  Corn And Justice!

2 July 2009 4:11 PM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

It’s kind of funny how easily the reptile part of the brain can take over.  It makes us do odd things, makes us fixate on the things that make our nether regions tingle, to the exclusion of all else.  Makes us so focused - for example - on a certain Oscar-winning director casting a porn star in one feature that we cmpletely miss the fact that he’s working on another one as well, this one starring an actor with more than a little bit of awards hardware on his shelf at home.  A well ... I guess I just don’t find Matt Damon as attractive as Sasha Grey.  Such is life.

The director, of course, is Steven Soderbergh, and the film - the new one - is The Informant!, a based- on-a-true-story tale of quite possible the least competent corporate whistle-blower in the history of ever.  i can

Trailer for 'The Informant' with Matt Damon

1 July 2009 1:23 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

The first trailer for Steven Soderbergh's upcoming crime comedy "The Informant" hast just surfaced on the Web, and you can check it out after the jump. It's got Matt Damon in it, and the synopsis goes like this:

A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland, Mark Whitacre (Damon) suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company’s multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion.

But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn’t been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers...

"The Informant" is based on the novel by Kurt Eichenwald.

The Informant! Trailer

1 July 2009 12:14 AM, PDT | From FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news

The first trailer for the Steven Soderbergh directed picture - The Informant! is now online. Starring Matt Damon, Scott Bakula and Joel McHale the film is based on a true story but I can’t help feeling that it’s looking like a blander version of “Burn After Reading” in the trailer below. Still, see what you think and let me know if you agree. The film gets it’s UK release on 6th November 2009.

What was Mark Whitacre thinking? A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (Adm), Whitacre suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company’s multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion. But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase,

First Trailer for Soderbergh’s The Informant!

30 June 2009 10:03 PM, PDT | From TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news

The first trailer is now online for Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant. Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Joel McHale, Melanie Lynskey, Tony Hale, Patton Oswalt, Mike O'Malley, Andrew Daly and Scott Adsit star in the comedic thriller, which is scheduled to hit theaters in October. In the film, based on the Kurt Eichenwald book, the U.S. government decides to go after an agri-business giant with a price-fixing accusation, based on the evidence submitted by their star witness, vice president turned informant Mark Whitacre (Damon). Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) penned the screenplay.

The Informant Movie Trailer

30 June 2009 8:03 PM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

"From the director of Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen" might tell you everything you need to know about the sales pitch for Steven Soderbergh's The Informant. Based on the true story of Mark Whitacre, played by Matt Damon, who blew the whistle on price-fixing policies at grain processing conglomerate Archer Daniels Midland, the film adapts the book of the same name by Kurt Eichenwald. But the trailer promises anything but a dry boardroom battle. Cut to 'Flight of the Valkyries' and pop song 'Would I Lie To You?' and featuring some great moments from co-stars Scott Bakula and Tony Hale, this looks like The Insider meets Top Secret. Watch the trailer after the jump. In 1992, Whitacre confessed to an FBI agent (played by Bakula) that he and other company execs had fixed the price of lysine, a grain-based food additive. Soderbergh is evidently casting the story as a sharp,

Matt Damon Serves Laughs in The Informant! Trailer

Trailer day continues on the Internet with Warner Bros. Pictures offering The Informant! starring Matt Damon. Though formally labeled a genre, I dare you not to crack up when watching this trailer. Even better is the revelation at the midpoint that The Informants! is based on a true story. Damon plays Mark Whitacre, a rising employee at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (Adm) who turns on his employer as a whistleblower to the FBI. Whitacre reasons for turning are to become a hero among his colleagues and secure a promotion. Trailers are coming in from all sides today as Warner Bros. has just unwrapped Steven Soderbergh's The Informant starring Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre, a rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (Adm) who suddenly turns whistleblower. Chuck deserves a whole season, not just 13 episodes. Any chance of more? — Darryl

Matt: Actually, yes. NBC entertainment president Ben Silverman says that while the current plan is to deliver 13 midseason episodes, depending on the ratings, "we may extend it out and continue it through the summer," where he thinks it could pair nicely with Friday Night Lights. "We're looking to ... keep [Chuck] incredibly viral and buzz-worthy until it returns, and then hopefully have it on our air for many years to come." That'd be Awesome. And even more so? I chatted up Scott Bakula at TNT's upfronts luncheon, and he's game for more Chuck, if need be.

Upfronts Day Four: Some Cable Stuff

21 May 2009 6:59 AM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

On the heels of the broadcast network’s fall announcements comes the never-ending trickle of cable commitments. As is their wont, many of these shows will debut in the summer months (like, June) when broadcast network series are on hiatus.

TNT will be showing us a hospital series starring Jada Pinkett Smith called Hawthorne, Jerry Bruckheimer’s got a cop show called Dark Blue that stars Dylan McDermott, Mark Burnett’s got a new reality series called Wedding Day, and this December a series with an impressive pedigree called Men of a Certain Age starring Ray Romano, Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula.

truTV has a bunch of “reality” shows that fit square into their format: a behind the scenes show called NFL Full Contact– the sort we used to call a “documentary,” Conspiracy Theory with Governor Jesse Ventura, U.S. Special Ops: Declassified – a program that outs our nation’s terrorist hunters,

Leverage and Raising the Bar return to TNT this summer for their sophomore seasons, while three new shows make their debut. The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick, and Saving Grace, starring Holly Hunter, are also among the cabler's returning original series.

As for new fare, TNT is rolling out this summer HawthoRNe, a medical drama fronted by Jada Pinkett Smith; Dark Blue, a police drama led by Dylan McDermott (The Practice); and Wedding Day, a reality series from Mark Burnett.

The cabler's development slate for the 2009-10 season and beyond, meawhile, is both out-of-this-world and down-to-earth.

The dramedy Men of a Certain Age — starring Ray Romano (also a creator on the series), Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula — has been greenlit and tabbed for ...

Remote View: 'Chuck' Heavy on the References

10 April 2009 7:17 AM, PDT | From CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news

I can’t be the only one giggling at all the references I’m catching while watching NBC’s Chuck (the show airs on Citytv in Canada).

It started with the many homages to Die Hard, from the dialogue steals to the revelation that Big Mike Tucker, the manager of the Burbank Buy More, is cousin to Al Powell. He was the L.A.P.D. cop who became the virtual bartender for Bruce Willis’ John McCLane.

Then I heard “GLG20”, and something in the back of my head tweaked at that. Then I heard it again, and realized that “GLG20” was the imaginary designations given to bumbling CIA operatives Austin Milbarge and Emmet Fitz-Hume, played by Dan Akroyd and Chevy Chase in their comedy Spies Like Us.

If the names of the Chase and Akroyd characters seem familiar, it’s with good reason. The new assistant manager of the

Tonight's a good night to watch 'Chuck'

6 April 2009 2:21 PM, PDT | From Hitfix.com | See recent Hitfix news

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, Dear Readers. I don't need to tell you that NBC's "Chuck" is the most purely entertaining show currently airing on network television.  I also don't need to remind you that Monday (April 6) night's episode -- "Chuck vs the Dream Job" -- marks the beginning of multi-episode arcs for Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase and that Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase are inherently awesome. I'm only repeating what you already know when I say that "Chuck" hasn't been renewed for a third season yet and that if NBC's bottom line is ratings-based --...

Preview of 'Chuck' 2.19: Chuck's Father Is in Town

4 April 2009 12:53 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

For the first time, the extended family of "Chuck" is exposed. Scott Bakula stars as Steve Bartowski, the long-lost father who gave up on Chuck and Ellie few years back but is now asked to return to walk Ellie down the aisle.

A twist of fate come when Chuck nails his dream job at Ted Roark's (guest star Chevy Chase) company. Steve unfortunately has a bitter history with Ted. They used to work together but Steve claimed that Ted had stolen all of his ideas.

Called "Chuck Vs. the Dream Job", the episode airs Monday, April 3.

The wedding of Captain Awesome and Ellie will occur in the season finale. Ryan McPartlin who plays Awesome explains, "It's set to happen. Whether it all happens as planned, you've got to watch. You know, with any wedding in any show, something can always go wrong. In Chuck, it's almost guaranteed to have something go wrong.

First glimpses of Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase on 'Chuck'

1 April 2009 1:52 PM, PDT | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

Here are a couple of clips from Monday's "Chuck," in which we meet Chuck's dad, Steve, who's played by Scott Bakula, and Chuck seeks his "dream job" at the company owned by computer billionaire Ted Roark (Chevy Chase). I am currently taking ideas, by the way, on how we should get NBC to renew this wonderful show. I'll try to write about in more depth in the next few weeks, mainly in order to shamelessly beg for a third season, but if you have ideas on how to get NBC to bring "Chuck" back, leave them in the comment area....

Scott Bakula, Chevy Chase and Jeffster! will rock 'Chuck's' world soon

11 March 2009 10:41 AM, PDT | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

Good news, "Chuck" fans. Before the show's second season ends, we'll get another glimpse of Jeffster! And both Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase begin their multi-episode guest arcs on April 6. Jeffster! is, of course, the band formed by the deeply strange, wonderfully weird Jeff and Lester of the Buy More, where Chuck works. We saw the band in "Chuck vs. the Best Friend" as they rocked the store with their actually-not-terrible version of Toto's "Africa." That episode was already one of my favorite-ever "Chucks," and having the great ending, complete with the song stylings of Jeffster!, was just the...

WonderCon 2009 - ‘Chuck’ Panel

2 March 2009 12:25 PM, PST | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

The Chuck panel at the 2009 WonderCon was attended by Zachary Levi (Chuck), Yvonne Strahovski (Sarah), Josh Gomez (Morgan), Adam Baldwin (Casey) & exec producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak.

We were treated to some previews and upcoming scenes.  There is definitely a lot more skin this season than last.  Wouldn’t you agree?  No, I’m not having a problem with it - just saying.

Here are some points and notes they touched on during the fun session:

On their guest stars:  They really had good things to say about everyone, but they especially liked the evil of Chevy Chase.  They enjoyed how Scott Bakula blended with the cast so well and how Tricia Helfner brought an interesting edge to the show.

We’ve not seen the last of Jill.

The crowd was polled and no one wants to see Bryce again.  The producers made no promises.

We will see Jeffster perform again.
