Watch a Japanese Trailer for 'Battleship'

24 December 2011 9:12 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

A Japanese trailer for Peter Berg's Battleship has popped up online and just skimming through it looking for a couple of screen captures it looks like it is exactly the same kind of film as Transformers only this is an extraordinarily loose adaptation of a board game (which makes me feel stupid just writing) and doesn't have any matter of built-in audience. Starring Taylor Kitsch, Tom Arnold, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Hamish Linklater, Brooklyn Decker, Liam Neeson and Josh Pence, Battleship is set to hit theaters on May 18, 2012 and of the twenty films I included in a recent poll asking readers "If You Could See One of These 20 Upcoming 2012 Releases Today, which One Would It Be?" Battleship is second to last with only five votes, just ahead of the three earned by Wrath of the Titans. Give this new trailer a watch and tell me if it makes you more »

Outrun, Starring Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell And Bradley Cooper, Arrives Next Summer

21 December 2011 3:43 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

One need only remember the travesty that was Gigli to realize that mixing real-life romance with the onscreen version doesn't always work out. Nevertheless, offscreen couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard decided to team up for the upcoming action/comedy Outrun, which THR says will be hitting theaters next summer. Hopefully there will be no "gobble gobble " moments. Shepard stars as a former getaway driver who skips out on Witness Protection to drive an ex-girlfriend (Bell) cross country for a dream job. Naturally, the authorities (led by Tom Arnold) are on his tail the whole way as are his former criminal cohorts (led by Bradley Cooper) who were responsible for him landing in witness protection in the first place. Former Punk'd staple/Bell fiance Dax Shepard wrote and co-directed (with the flick. It's Shepard's first directorial outing, and he'll also be playing a character named "Charlie Bronson." Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

Directed by: Brad Bird

Cast: Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg

Running Time: 2 hrs 13 mins

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: December 16, 2011 (IMAX)

December 21, 2011 (wide release)

Plot: A bomb goes off at the Kremiln, and the Imf is suspected. That means Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team must go rogue to try and save the world.

Who’S It For? I know there are Tom Cruise haters out there. If you don’t mind him, and like action, this is definitely a movie worth your time.

Expectations: I like me some Cruise. Mission: Impossible III is one of my favorite action movies ever. I wasn’t nervous, but more curious going from J.J. Abrams to Brad Bird in the director’s chair.

Scorecard (0-10)

Actors:

Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt: Cruise is 49, and absolutely still getting it done in the action department. He throws himself »

Restitution and Entering the Murderous World of Neo-noir: A Movie Review

25 November 2011 4:00 AM, PST | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

*a screener of this film was provided by Video Services Corp.

Director: Lance Kawas.

Writer: Mark Bierlein.

Restitution is an indie neo-noir thriller that is set in Detroit, Michigan where anything can happen. And that anything is Tom Arnold playing an ex-Marine sharpshooter. As well, the protagonist gets to kill two thugs while meandering around the crime scene. Should someone arrest him? Also, there are dubious detectives, a damsel in distress and a phony corporation who likes to deal in nose candy rather than legit' products. All of these plot elements create for a very enjoyable time in a neo-noir world.

The plot takes awhile to build momentum as two characters flirt across a bar. Their romance is short lived as Bryan Spikes, an investigator, finds his boss to be a little too demanding. Soon, Bryan is heading over a bridge with a chain collar. A year passes and a »

Dax Shepard’s Ensemble Comedy ‘Outrun’ Picked Up For Domestic Release

Back when he was getting his start torturing celebrities on the Ashton Kutcher produced MTV prank show Punk’d it would have been hard to predict that comedian Dax Shepard would get to where he is today. He’s gone from wearing silly fake mustaches and telling Justin Bieber that his dad died to starring in big Hollywood movies, getting engaged to the criminally hot Kristen Bell, and now even making features of his own. Deadline Milford is reporting that Outrun, a movie that Shepard wrote and directed himself, has been acquired for domestic release by Open Road Pictures. This isn’t just a little project that Shepard made in his backyard either, this is a big comedy with an ensemble cast.
