Owen Wilson, Jimmy Kimmel, Panic at the Disco want health care for all

11 October 2013 9:50 AM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Owen Wilson stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to promote his new animated movie "Free Birds," but ended up going on a mini-rant about health care in light of the government shutdown while he had a pedestal on which to speak.

"I don't even think you have to get too political. Regardless of what you think about Obamacare, your heart just kind of goes out to anyone that doesn't have health insurance," Wilson says to Kimmel. "I'm like a journeyman actor, you're a celebrity; I'd love to use your juice or heat to do some good or something."

That turns into Wilson pulling together an impromptu health care PSA that featured appearances from basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and band Panic at the Disco (who was already performing on "Kimmel" that night). The PSA ends with the "Jimmy Kimmel Children's Choir" coming out and singing a song about there being health care for everyone alongside Panic, »

Watch Owen Wilson’s Totally Spontaneous Kimmel Health Care PSA (Video)

11 October 2013 7:50 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Owen Wilson said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday that he wished he could do something for Americans without health care. Luckily, he was able to throw something together. The “Free Birds” star was able to enlist Kimmel and a couple of other friends — including Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Panic! at the Disco — for a PSA about the importance of health care. He also had an impressive assortment of charts and real-person anecdotes. It’s pretty solid for something so completely spontaneous. 10 Most Mismatched Enemies In Movie History

18 June 2013 9:47 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The thrill of watching a movie fight is all about seeing the hero face off against an enemy whose might cannot seemingly be matched; after all, why do you think underdog movies like The Karate Kid are so successful?

We like seeing heroes triumph over adversity – after all, isn’t that how they become heroes in the first place? – yet sometimes, filmmakers get things a little wrong. Of course, it can be intentional, but sometimes, a spot of casting, scripting or fight choreography just doesn’t pan out as they expect it to in theory.

The result? Some of the most hilariously, brilliantly mismatched movie fights of all time. They’re difficult to take seriously – as is sometimes the point – but almost always entertaining to watch. If offered a more fierce alternative, I think I’d always opt for what we ended up with; these films are all certainly more »

Top 7 Comedic Self Cameos in Film

13 June 2013 9:33 AM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.

While turning the apocalypse into a party, the new comedy from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg This Is the End is a celebrity-filled powwow that embraces the value of a cameo, giving its extensive guest list a chance to appear as goofier versions of themselves. With some of the movie’s best jokes coming from its surprise impressions (Michael Cera and his windbreaker are doomsday stealers), it’s time to celebrate the wall-breaking comedy that is a self cameo.

The rules for this specific list are that the comedic cameo must feature the star playing themselves. Such appearances are not considered for being the funniest, but the best overall. These are the appearances that go beyond simply making a film experience feel more like it’s in our reality (as opposed to Movie World), instead providing something special to the film and/or »

LeBron James named NBA Mvp for fourth time, becomes fifth player to achieve the elite status

5 May 2013 1:46 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

LeBron James has officially been named Mvp of the 2012-13 NBA season, after reports leaked on Friday that the announcement was imminent.

This is the fourth Mvp win for the current Miami Heat forward who has been playing in the NBA for nearly a decade now. The selection puts James in elite status with only four other NBA legends who were named Mvp at least four times. Wilt Chamberlain is a four-time Mvp, while Michael Jordan and Bill Russell each won five. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar remains the all-time leader with six Mvp wins.

James averaged 26.8 points, eight rebounds and 7.3 assists. He also managed to shoot a career-high 56.5% from the field, which makes him the first player in NBA history to hit those collective highs in points, rebounds, assists plus shooting from the field.

James also led the Heat to the season's best record of 66-16.

Cher shares some of her favorite films with TCM

Cher knows a bit about strong women making their way in the world. This knowledge helped her she picked movies for TCM's "A Woman's World: The Defining Era of Women on Film" starting Friday (April 5).

"They wanted to show women from several different lights in the war years, and wanted to show how integral women were as nurses in the war, as women in the war, in the workforce, staying home, to show how women were able to cope with the war, and how we could not have won without them even though they did not get accolades, and were told to leave the minute the men came home," Cher tells Zap2it. "The war freed them -- they were mothers and wives that was their role."

Among her picks are "His Girl Friday" (1940) where Roz Russell plays a reporter, who not only tackles an officious bureaucrat, but has Cary Grant has her editor and, »

'Splash' results: Kendra Wilkinson's fears get the better of her

2 April 2013 7:47 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Splash," ABC's new celebrity diving competition, is all about celebs overcoming physical and mental limitations in order to be the best divers they can be. But on this week's episode, Playboy playmate and reality star Kendra Wilkinson threw in the towel.

This episode focused on synchronized partner dives. Wilkinson was paired with extreme skier Rory Bushfield, and the duo was set to do a partner dive that involved Bushfield holding Wilkinson while they flipped. Her crippling fear of heights became a major obstacle -- as did his health, since he ruptured an eardrum in practice and was advised by doctors not to dive.

He went against medical advice and decided to do the dive anyway, but when he and Wilkinson took to the board, she couldn't get past her terror. She stood on the platform, but refused to make the dive. "I'm so sorry, everybody," she said sadly. "This is »

Splash: Season One Ratings

22 March 2013 9:28 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

The Taste wasn't exactly a ratings smash for ABC so how will Splash perform in the same timeslot? Will it be a surprise hit and run for many years or will it be cancelled after one season, like so many others? We shall see.

The first season of Splash typically airs Tuesday nights on the ABC network. The show pits celebrities Keshia Knight Pulliam, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Louie Anderson, Drake Bell, Chuy Bravo, Rory Bushfield, Nicole Eggert, Ndamukong Suh, Katherine Webb, and Kendra Wilkinson against one another in a high diving competition. It's hosted by Joey Lawrence and Charissa Thompson and judged by Steve Foley and David Boudia. Greg Louganis serves as the competitors' mentor.

Below are the TV show's ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if Splash is going to be cancelled or renewed for a second season. »

ABC's 'Splash' premieres with Louie Anderson and Katherine Webb: What did you think?

19 March 2013 6:59 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

When we first heard about ABC's "Splash," we had our doubts -- watching D-list celebs hop into a pool doesn't seem nearly as entertaining as watching them cha-cha. (And even the entertainment value of that is dwindling.) Tuesday's series premiere of the celebrity diving competition show was surprisingly compelling, though. London Olympic U.S. gold medalist David Boudia and Australian Olympic athlete and USA Dive team director Steve Foley were very dynamic judges, and because the show doesn't air live, there was room to create drama with editing.

First of all, we loved to hate the jingles for each of the divers -- particularly "The Cosby Show" child star's Keshia Knight Pulliam, whose jingle made sure to mention that she wasn't little Rudy anymore. Her dive involved a handstand on the board, but the judges weren't particularly impressed by it. "You had as much balance as a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest, »

'Splash' premiere: Chuy Bravo sidelined by horseplay; Joey Lawrence stresses diving dangers

ABC's ballroom-dancing competition "Dancing With the Stars," which started a new season on Monday, March 18, is known for a fairly high rate of injury to participants, both celebrity contestants and professional dancers -- from pulled muscles to foot fractures to tendon tears.

But Joey Lawrence, star of ABC Family's sitcom "Melissa and Joey," who competed on "Dancing," says that risk is nothing compared to that faced by the contestants in "Splash," the new reality-competition show he's co-hosting for ABC.

"These are serious injuries," says Lawrence. "We have things going on I'm not going to tell you about, as these episodes roll out. But it is crazy stuff these people are experiencing."

Premiering on Tuesday, March 19, "Splash," based on a Dutch concept, pairs 10 celebrities with diving mentor and Olympic legend Greg Louganis, then has them compete in regulation platform and springboard diving in front of two judges: London Olympics gold-medalist David Boudia, »

'Splash': Katherine Webb and Louie Anderson take the plunge for ABC

19 March 2013 1:00 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Several personalities are taking a major plunge, to their own surprise as well as others'.

In January, Fox tried a celebrity diving special that -- pardon the phrase -- tanked, but ABC is forging ahead with a weekly variation. Premiering Tuesday, March 19, "Splash" is to diving what "Dancing With the Stars" has been to another pursuit, as several famous faces attempt challenging twists and turns after leaping off boards toward the water below.

The show's host -- multiple Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis -- and judges certainly know the sport, giving them a firm basis to gauge the efforts of competitors who include basketball icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, comic Louie Anderson, actor Drake Bell ("Drake & Josh"), extreme skier Rory Bushfield and Olympic-medalist soccer star Brandi Chastain (a late substitute for "Chelsea Lately" sidekick Chuy Bravo, who fractured his heel while training for the show).

Also competing are actresses Nicole Eggert ("Baywatch »

Greg Louganis: From Olympic Gold To "Splash" To Finding His Soul Mate

Greg Louganis photographed by Clinton Gaughran for AfterElton

Take ten celebrities, put them in swimsuits, give them some training by a sexy Olympic legend and then make them dive into a swimming pool. There you have the basic concept behind ABC’s new reality competition series, Splash.

The reality competition series, which kicks off tonight, has celebs learning from the skilled prowess of Greg Louganis, the show’s Dive Master. But the hook of Splash is watching as the celebs – basketball icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, comedian Louie Anderson, actor/singer Drake Bell, comedian Chuy Bravo, reality star Kendra Wilkinson, actress Keshia Knight-Pulliam, skier Rory Bushfield, actress Nicole Eggert, Miss Alabama Katherine Webb, football’s Ndamukong Suh – grow (or not grow) as divers both physically and emotionally.

As you probably know, Louganis won Gold Medals in both 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games on both the springboard and platform events. He was diagnosed with HIV »

Ranking Basketball Stars Who Tried Acting

19 March 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Acting and basketball don't immediately seem to have much in common — one involves running, jumping, passing, dribbling and heaving a big orange ball through a ten-foot-high net; the other involves standing in front of a camera. So it's safe to say that being good at one does not make you good at the other.

That hasn't stopped plenty of basketball players from making the leap to feature films, though. So with March Madness upon us, we thought we'd take a look at basketball stars whose acting turns were either slam dunks — or flagrant fouls.

We've ranked the players from worst to best in terms of their acting, but ranking them in terms of their basketball skills would be much tougher: Every one of the eight players on our list won at least one NBA championship. But do any of them have a chance at an Oscar? Check it out and let the Madness begin. »

'Splash': Watch the over-the-top opening of ABC's celebrity diving show

15 March 2013 4:28 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

If you've ever wondered what the glitz-heavy aesthetic of "Dancing With the Stars" would look like if it were transferred to the edge of a swimming pool, wonder no more. The opening moments of ABC's diving show "Splash" answer the question in full.

The two-minute sequence that opens Tuesday's (March 19) series premiere is a riot of dancing paparazzi, synchronized swimmers (wearing high heels!) and some pretty impressive choreographed diving. You can watch the opening now exclusively on Zap2it.

The show beings with a woman jumping from the 10-meter platform, trailing a huge red sash behind her, and also features several divers slingshotting themselves off a swinging board. Chances are the contestants' dives won't be that good at first. The includes former "Baywatch" star Nicole Eggert, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and comedian Louie Anderson, none of whom is ready for a triple somersault off the high platform at first.
