After the conclusion of each Academy Awards ceremony, I always go back and rewatch the telecast from start to finish. I want to pick up on all of the things that I might have missed during my initial viewing. I especially like to study the nominees’ reactions each time an envelope is opened — particularly for the major categories when the famous five-camera shot is strategically displayed on the TV screen. I always rewind the moment that each winner is announced, so that I can carefully study the look on each individual’s face both before and after the big reveal.
As we all know, this year’s Best Actress race was the only above-the-line race with any real suspense. That it made it all the more fascinating when reigning Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) announced that the torch would be passed on to Emma Stone in “Poor Things.

Heading into the 2024 Oscars, most of the above-the-line categories seemed locked in with “Oppenheimer” poised to take Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and Best Director (Christopher Nolan). “The Holdovers” was guaranteed a win for Best Supporting Actress (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) and even the screenplay categories had clear front-runners in “Anatomy of a Fall” and “American Fiction.”
Best Actress was the only major race that held us in suspense to the end. After Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) won the Golden Globe (Comedy/Musical), Critics Choice and BAFTA, and Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) took home the Golden Globe (Drama) and SAG Award, the two seemed deadlocked for Oscar glory. However, most of the experts and Gold Derby users predicted Gladstone would prevail, citing her narrative of becoming the first Native American to win Best Actress would help propel her across the finish line.

As shown by an MCU fan on Reddit, every MCU movie released so far features at least one Oscar winner, except for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Robert Downey Jr.'s 2024 Oscar win retroactively gives Avengers: Age of Ultron its only Academy Award winner. The MCU continues to attract top-tier actors, with upcoming Phase 5 projects featuring Oscar-nominated performers such as Hugh Jackman, Harrison Ford, Florence Pugh, and Mahershala Ali.
A surprising MCU statistic shows the impressive amount of A-list talent Marvel Studios has amassed throughout the years, revealing how every movie in the franchise has had at least one Oscar winner, except for one Phase 5 installment. Throughout the McU's 16-year history, dozens of accomplished performers have joined the franchise, including multiple actors who have won Oscars for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, either before or after their MCU debut. While Elodie's journey is more action-laced, there are many dragon tales filled with romance, drama, and horror. It reiterates how versatile these stories can be. With that in mind, here are some entertaining dragon stories outside of Damsel.

Dominic Keating misses the opportunity to explore Lt. Malcolm Reed's connection to Section 31 in the new Star Trek movie. Keating believes Reed was destined to become a captain, hinting at missed potential in Enterprise's storyline. Section 31 movie, starring Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, will stream on Paramount+ and is currently filming in Toronto.
Star Trek: Enterprise actor Dominic Keating is sad that Star Trek: Section 31 is happening without him, confirming that Lt. Malcolm Reed won't be in the next Star Trek movie starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh. Malcolm Reed had ties to Section 31 on Star Trek: Enterprise, which was set in the 22nd century and makes it difficult to incorporate Lt. Reed into the film without time travel shenanigans. However, it isn't clear when, exactly, Michelle Yeoh's Section 31 movie takes place in the Star Trek timeline.

The recent Academy Awards sparked debates among fans as to who would be collecting the most prestigious awards. Along with Bradley Cooper, Jeffrey Wright, and Paul Giamatti, Cillian Murphy was the topic of conversation when mulling over the Best Actor nominees. But Murphy's win prompted many who may not know his full filmography to branch out and explore his other works.
Murphy's career has soared, going from strength to strength in both film and TV. From his big break in 2002 with Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, he has honed his craft to be recognized as one of the finest actors of this generation. Whilst his name has yet again been associated with the tremendous film Oppenheimer, there's a plethora of other work that will stand the test of time, with some of his best performances.

It’s been eight years since the release of the last Star Trek movie, which, believe it or not, is actually the largest gap between movies since the franchise first hit the big screen in 1979. There have been several potential Star Trek movies in the works during those years, but they have either been scrapped or stuck in development hell. We still don’t know exactly what the future will bring, but Paramount apparently has “a plan” for the franchise’s return to theaters.

ScreenRant spoke with Roddenberry Entertainment COO Trevor Roth, who assured fans that there is a plan in the works. While I might be tempted to say that it feels like Paramount is just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, I would love to see a proper Star Trek movie once again.

By taking home the 2024 Best Actor Oscar for “Oppenheimer,” Cillian Murphy blazed a trail as the first Irish-born lead performer ever honored by the film academy. Prior to his victory, there had not been a native Irish acting winner in over 30 years nor any from his city of Cork, as the only earlier examples had involved supporting winners and fellow Dubliners Barry Fitzgerald and Brenda Fricker. His historic achievement brings the total number of different countries that have produced acting champs during the last decade to eight.
As has been the case throughout practically all of Oscars history, the United States is by far the dominant birthplace among the 2015-2024 acting winners. Of the group’s 37 unique members, 26 (or 70.3%) originate from there, including newly-crowned victors Emma Stone (“Poor Things”), Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”). Exclusive: Justin Calen-Chenn, a staff writer on Netflix’s recent crime action series The Brothers Sun from creators Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, has signed with M88 for management.
Starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien and Sam Song Li, the show watched as Charles Sun (Chien), a Taipei gangster who’d settled into his life as a ruthless killer, headed to L.A. to protect his mother and younger brother after his father was shot by a mysterious assassin.
Calen-Chenn drew on much of his own personal life experience in the writers’ room, having been homeless as a teenager and fallen into a life of crime before departing that life many years later after a severe tragedy occurred.
Previously serving as an executive story editor on the second season of Peacock’s Bel-Air, from EPs including Will Smith and Malcolm Spellman, the Taiwanese-American creative is a writer and co-producer on the forthcoming third season.

We loved "Everything Everywhere All at Once" around these parts (you can read our review right here), but it seems like some folks have soured on the flick ever since it took home an Oscar for Best Picture. So it goes. The feature helmed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, aka The Daniels, is wild, unpredictable, funny, and emotional. Perhaps the emotional angle is what turns people off these days — it seems like anyone or anything who dares to express any type of half-positive emotion is labeled as "cringe." And that's a shame. None of this is to say you're not allowed to dislike the movie. To each their own.
But if you still have a place for "Everything Everywhere All at Once" in your heart, you might be curious about how the wild and crazy film came together. Or more specifically, where all of the over-the-top insanity originally sprung from.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy executive producer Alex Kurtzman has revealed when the upcoming Paramount+ series will begin production.
Speaking with Collider, Kurtzman confirmed that Starfleet Academy would begin filming later this summer and that the first season would consist of 10 episodes. "It could end up not airing until 2026. We don’t know. But by starting [shooting in late summer], just building the sets alone is a massive endeavor, then six months of shooting, then six to eight months of post," he explained. "If you recall, there was all this noise around Season 1 and Season 2 of Discovery because the streaming service, they were like, 'Oh, it’s like a turnaround on a cop show.' I’m like, 'No, you don’t understand. It’s eight months of visual effects turnaround, and we’re not gonna rush that.' So, it’ll come out, but it’ll come out when it’s done."

When showrunner Michelle Paradise and co-creator Alex Kurtzman sat down to begin planning what would ultimately become the final season of “Star Trek: Discovery” they had one big goal: “Bigger and bolder,” of course, Paradise said.
They didn’t originally know the program would be coming to an end, but they still wanted to take some big swings when it came to keeping the story fresh for Season 5 — and that means compelling villains.
“They’re kind of like the Bonnie and Clyde of the ‘Star Trek’ universe,” Kurtzman said to IndieWire about the new baddies that fans will meet in the premiere episode. “But like all great villains, they have a sympathetic story. You know the old adage: The villain is the hero of their own story. That’s very true for them, and I think ultimately you’ll love them as much as you’ll see them as the villain.

Yet, apart from Barbie snubs and Oppenheimer bagging 7 awards, one thing stood out the most: A naked John Cena! While fans had some wild reactions to the moment, Oscar producers revealed that it was not an easy thing to pull off.

The Oscars night gave us numerous surprises this year. There is much to talk about from Robert Downey Jr. and the entire Oppenheimer team’s triumph to John Cena’s bizarre entry. However, a certain part of the event has divided the fans and has raised an intense internet debate. The fans did not appreciate how Downey Jr. and Emma Stone reacted to Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh while receiving the Golden Statuettes for Best Supporting Actor and Leading Actress.

The Academy brought the 2009 concept of ‘Fab 5’ presenters back this year. It saw five past winners in each acting category announcing the current nominees before unveiling the winner. While it was meant to create wholesome moments, debates were raised online regarding Robert Downey Jr. and Emma Stone’s seemingly ignorant behaviors toward the Asian stars.

Robert Downey Jr. has had a phenomenal year after his performance as Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer won him multiple accolades, including the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The Avengers star has had multiple career renaissances, with Iron Man aiding his resurgence as an actor, while Oppenheimer introduced a new dimension to his skills.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. was asked along with his fellow nominees what they would be doing if they never became actors. While actors such as Mark Ruffalo and Paul Giamatti preferred to go into the arts, Downey Jr. joked that if he had not been an actor, he would be in prison doing ‘hard time’.

The Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh has issued a clarification on what led to the confusion between her and ‘Poor Things’ actress Emma Stone at the 96th Oscars stage, when the latter won the Best Actress honour.
Michelle along with fellow past Oscar winners and actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, Sally Field, and Jessica Lange were on hand at Sunday’s ceremony to present the award for Best Actress, reports ‘People’ magazine.
Each actress gave a short speech about this year’s nominees — Emma Stone, Annette Bening, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Huller, and Carey Mulligan — before the ‘Poor Things’ actress was pronounced the winner.
Michelle handed Emma Stone’s Oscar statuette to Jennifer Lawrence on the Oscars stage causing confusion.
As Emma Stone walked onto the stage, she told the women that her custom Louis Vuitton gown had ripped before walking over to Michelle, who was holding onto the statuette.

Emma Stone’s winning moment at the Oscars for Best Actress was met with a lot of confusion. First, the dress broke as she walked up the stage to receive her award. Second, Michelle Yeoh, presenting the award with Jennifer Lawrence along with other talented members of the industry, initially hesitated to give Stone the award directly and instead gave it to Jennifer Lawrence.
Although the moment accounted for an awkward one, many speculated why it might have happened. But lo and behold, the Everything Everywhere All at Once actress herself cleared the air by chiming in on Instagram.

Michelle Yeoh is clearing up some confusion regarding her moment with Emma Stone after presenting the Best Lead Actress award at the 2024 Oscars.
Emma was officially crowned as Michelle‘s successor in the category on Sunday (March 10). The actress won for her role in Poor Things, which is her second ever victory in the category.
During Michelle‘s presentation of the award, several other former Best Actress winners were onstage. Instead of immediately passing the statuette over to Emma, Michelle handed it to Jennifer Lawrence so they could jointly give the award to its newest recipient.
Emma appeared a bit confused during the exchange before giving her acceptance speech and later sharing an embrace with Michelle.
The Everything Everywhere All at Once star has since spoken out about the matter!

That brief tug-of-war between Michelle Yeoh and Emma Stone during the Best Actress presentation apparently requires some explanation.
Five former Best Actress Oscar winners, including Yeoh and Jennifer Lawrence, were on stage to greet this year’s recipient.
Stone came up on stage after her win was announced, and Yeoh started to hand her the trophy. But instead of passing it off, Yeoh kept a firm grip on it and started dragging Stone toward Lawrence, who in turn took it in a somewhat uncomfortable handoff scrum.
Finally, Stone gained sole possession.
Today, Yeoh posted about the moment on Instagram with a mild apology in her caption.
“Congratulations Emma!! I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer!! She reminded me of my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis ♥️✨ always there for each other!!

Michelle Yeoh took a moment on Monday to clarify why she handed Emma Stone’s best actress Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence just before Stone accepted the trophy onstage.
At the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, five former best actress Oscar winners took a moment to introduce each of this year’s nominees, with last year’s winner Michelle Yeoh set to hand the trophy to the winner. When Stone’s name was called, though, Yeoh took an extra second to hand the trophy to Jennifer Lawrence, so Lawrence could hand it to Stone.

While having five past winners present the acting categories once again went over well at the 2024 Oscars like it did in 2009, the Best Actress category will present a challenge toward optics should it become an annual tradition. There are only two women of color in the 96 years the Oscars have existed who have ever won the award. Would Halle Berry, the only Black Best Actress winner, and Michelle Yeoh, the only Asian Best Actress winner, swap presenting duties year by year? Otherwise, it would be an all-white lineup of presenters.
Not that other categories have a perfect history of diversity, either, but the problem is much less stark. Part of the reason why the segment works in the first place is that it sends a subtle message that any kind of person can win. If it were only women of one race up there, that intended message would be lost.

“This is the night! We did it!” people said to each other as they arrived at the Oscars last night.
There are two sides of the red carpet: The one everyone sees at home with megawatt stars, and the one behind them where other ticket holders walk up a massive staircase, also draped in scarlet, where staff members politely and sternly moved everyone along as people lingered to take selfies.

Alex Kurtzman looks exactly how you’d expect someone to look at the end of a five-year-mission for Starfleet: relaxed, confident, and ready to bring the ship home. At least, that’s the impression he gives when he, showrunner Michelle Paradise, and stars Sonequa Martin-Green and David Ajala talk with Den of Geek about the upcoming fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery during SXSW 2024. You almost can’t tell this show has faced many trials and tribulations across its seven years on the air.
“It’s been an incredible ride for us,” Kurtzman declares during our chat, but quickly adds, “It was an incredibly bumpy first year.” Only a calm man can use words like “incredibly bumpy” to describe Discovery‘s inaugural season in 2017, the first new Star Trek television series since Enterprise went off the air in 2005. The Academy Awards telecast had its fair share of memorable highlights, like John Cena’s naked presentation of the costumes category, or Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s faux “Barbenheimer” feud while presenting a special tribute to stunt professionals.
But there was plenty that the audience at home didn’t see, from the pre-show pandemonium caused by late arrivals to the sweetest interactions at the Governor’s Ball after party.
See the full list of Oscar winners here.
Late Start
Viewers at home may not have noticed when the broadcast began, but the room was filled with chaos in the moments before the program, causing a five-minute delay to the show’s start. The ceremony was slated to begin earlier than usual this year, bumped up an hour to 4 p.m. Pt. Couple that with hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters shutting down a major section of Hollywood and many A-listers arrived with just seconds to spare.

Aside from delivering some surprise victories and actually ending on time, the 2024 Academy Awards had plenty of terrific attributes to celebrate. From rousing presentations and passionate acceptance speeches to downright thrilling song performances, here are four of the best moments from the 96th Oscars on Sunday, Mar. 10.
Tremendous Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress presentations
Oscar fanatics were thrilled when the ceremony’s producers announced that they would be reviving the acting presentations last seen over a decade ago, in which five past winners assemble to introduce and honor the current nominees. The presentations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress certainly didn’t disappoint in regard to who showed up and the reactions of the nominees. Jamie Lee Curtis, Regina King, Rita Moreno, Lupita Nyong’o and Mary Steenburgen toasted this year’s supporting actresses while Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Michelle Yeoh were on hand to present Best Actress.

On her way to the stage to accept the best actress 2024 Oscar for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor Things, Emma Stone was seen mouthing “my dress is broken!” to the cameras.
“I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,’ I’m pretty sure,” the 35-year-old actress revealed during her acceptance speech.
The star wore a custom mermaid gown with high jewelry, both from Louis Vuitton.
Past best actress winners Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Michelle Yeoh awarded the star her golden statue, with Lange rushing to Stone’s aid to fix her sculptural mint dress’ zipper wardrobe malfunction.

At the post-show press room, Stone revealed more about how her dress was ultimately fixed.
“They sewed me back in, right when I came back, it was wonderful,” said Stone. “I genuinely do think I busted it during ‘I’m Just Ken.

Jimmy Kimmel did a fantastic job with the 2024 Oscars opening monologue, touching briefly on politics but mostly focusing the jokes around this year’s nominees. Kimmel called out Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub, this year’s Oppenheimer nomination being a new “high” in Robert Downey Jr’s career, and compared Emma Stone playing an adult woman with the brain of a child to the woman who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union address. Kimmel’s monologue ended with a standing ovation as he brought Teamsters & IATSE members onto the stage, thanking them for standing with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA during last year’s strikes.

It’s to be expected that Jennifer Lawrence would don Dior at the 2024 Oscars — but the French fashion house’s longtime ambassador stepped out in a surprise pop of polka dots at tonight’s ceremony.
For her return to the Academy Awards red carpet, the No Hard Feelings star wore a strapless black-and-white off-shoulder gown from Christian Dior Haute Couture’s Spring 2024 collection. For the first time in 12 years, the Best Picture and Best Actor Oscars have gone to the same film. “Oppenheimer” took the top honor at Sunday’s 96th Academy Awards, moments after Cillian Murphy prevailed for his lead turn as J. Robert Oppenheimer.
“The Artist” (2011) was the last film to accomplish this feat as Jean Dujardin nabbed Best Actor. That came a year after “The King’s Speech” and star Colin Firth pulled off the double. Since these back-to-back wins, there have been a few close calls. “Birdman” (2014) won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, but not for its leading man Michael Keaton. The following year, Leonardo DiCaprio won his long-awaited Best Actor trophy for “The Revenant,” which won Best Director but not Best Picture.
