'Awake' Series Finale Sneak Peek

23 May 2012 1:32 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Yes, "Awake" was canceled by NBC and won't live to see a second season of split realities for Detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs), but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the finale of what's been a truly intriguing season of television.

"Awake" says goodbye to both timelines forever this week with its series finale (Thurs., May 24, 10 p.m. Et on NBC), but not before we get some more action and maybe a few answers -- we've got an exclusive sneak peek at a particularly gruesome scene, above.

Last we saw Britten, he was running from a gun-wielding Det. Ed Hawkins (Kevin Weisman), leaving a trail of blood behind him. Now he's one of the Lapd's most wanted, but he can't keep running to find the answers that will prove his theories until he gets stitched up. Paging Dr. Lee (Bd Wong)!

Awake: 5 Reasons Why Viewers Need to Open Their Eyes and Watch This Great Series

NBC's Awake, which airs Thursday nights at 10/9c, has been one of the best new shows of 2012. However, the series, which was created by Kyle Killen, who made the short-lived but critically acclaimed Lone Star, still struggles to find an audience despite its fantastic writing and brilliant performances. Here are five reasons why people should tune in to Awake this Thursday.

The Concept: The incredibly unique universe of Awake allows viewers to see Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs), a Los Angeles police detective, interact with his son in one reality and his wife in another, after a terrible car crash the family endures. In one outcome of the accident, Michael’s son, Rex (Dylan Minnette), has died but his wife, Hannah (Laura Allen), lives; in the other, Hannah is dead while Rex is alive. Throughout all »

'Awake's' Major Twist: Has One Timeline Disappeared Forever?

10 May 2012 5:10 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Arguably the biggest question of NBC's compelling drama "Awake" has been which of Britten's (Jason Isaacs) realities is real? Both? Just one? Neither? The other major mystery: Will Britten ever remember the circumstances surrounding that car "accident" that split his life in two? Looks like we might be getting some answers to both questions ... and likely, even more questions as a result.

We've got an exclusive sneak peek at the opening for this week's episode, "The Little Guy" (Thurs., May 10, 10 p.m. Et on NBC), which surfaces some serious issues for Britten with the introduction of a character that's only been cryptically referenced before.

Watch the clip above to see Britten unraveling with his "red timeline" therapist Dr. Lee (Bd Wong), then tell us: Do you think Britten will find a way to get back to his "green timeline" to see his son Rex again?

'Awake': Is Michael Britten schizophrenic?

5 April 2012 9:43 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

On Thursday's "Awake," Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) finds a solution to a hostage situation at a psychiatric hospital in his reality with Hannah (Laura Allen) and finds a missing ring in his reality with Rex (Dylan Minnette) -- but is he actually losing his mind in both worlds?

Much like Michael, Gabriel Wyath, the patient with schizophrenia threatening to blow up the hospital, is convinced that his sister who was murdered is actually alive. Dr. Lee (Bd Wong) tells Michael that Gabe reacted to her death by creating an elaborate conspiracy theory in which she was abducted by a fictional Dr. Wild from the lab where he worked. Later, once Michael realizes that Gabe's sister is in fact dead, Michael actually helps him to maintain the illusion that she's alive rather than tell him the truth.

And speaking of illusions, Michael's seeing penguins in both worlds after Gabe injects him with Ketamine inside the hospital. »

New Clips From Tonight’s Episode of Awake Plus Season Finale News

5 April 2012 4:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

It looks like things are going to get ramped up tonight on this excellent show, and not just because of the addition of the, oh let’s call it a “guest star” in the first clip. The second clip is extremely worrisome for Michael fans like me; things aren’t looking good for our hero this week. But judge for yourself:

TVLine is reporting that the last two episodes of the season will air back to back on May 17 from 9-11, right in the middle of May sweeps. That means that the entire season will have aired without interruption. Thank you, NBC.

Will we be seeing more about that very interesting park bench conversation from the end of episode 2 tonight? I can’t wait to find out.

'Awake': Michael Britten's seeing penguins

4 April 2012 3:15 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) gets some fowl costars on Thursday's (April 5) episode of "Awake" titled, "That's Not My Penguin." Britten is working with his therapist Dr. Lee (Bd Wong) to quell a hostage situation at a mental hospital in one world, while continuing to mix up details about each of his realities. Plus, he starts seeing penguins, but are they only a hallucination or is someone trying to make him think he's hallucinating?

Laura Allen, who plays Britten's wife, Hannah, said she's been looking forward to this episode.

"It introduces ... a whole new dimension to what this man can dream about," she said during a conference call last month. And Isaacs concurs.

"Since one of the worlds is a dream, crazy s--- can start happening," Isaacs told Zap2it in March. "Odd things start happening to him that you can't quite explain. ... Coming down the road, there's a lot more than penguins. »

'Awake': Is Michael [possible spoiler]?! -- Exclusive Clip

2 April 2012 6:00 AM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Theories upon theories already exist about why Det. Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) experiences dual realities on Awake, and if you are happily aboard the hypothesis train, get ready for a big stop.

Before I watched the exclusive clip below, one possibility that had never crossed my mind was that this phenomena was not the product of some massive supernatural occurrence. Because of the nature of the show, I’d never once put the events Michael has experienced in a realistic context. There had to be a bigger plan/reason/explanation. But what if we’ve all been over-thinking this?

Awake's Laura Allen: The Brittens' Marriage Is Tested, and 'Michael Goes Into a Bit of a Tailspin'

29 March 2012 6:43 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

In the “red” reality of NBC’s Awake (Thursdays at 10/9c), Detective Britten’s wife Hannah is alive, yet she stands rather alone in mourning their son — seeing as Michael still gets to be with Rex in (what may or may not be) his dreams. This week, as Michael draws suspicion at work for always having inexplicable, fruitful hunches, at home he faces the reality that Hannah may be drifting away from him.

TVLine spoke with Laura Allen, no stranger to quality TV drama from her time on FX’s short-lived Terriers, about the delicate balancing act that is Awake‘s dual narrative, »

TV Review: NBC Hopes Third Time’s the Charm with Intriguing ‘Awake’

1 March 2012 7:36 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – NBC continues to struggle on Thursday nights, producing two flops in the 9pm Cst hour already this year — “Prime Suspect” and “The Firm.” Will the third time be the charm with tonight’s premiere of the highly-advertised “Awake”? While the show is intriguing, unique, and well-acted, it’s hard to see it taking off on the peacock network. I’m starting to wonder if anything that doesn’t star Adam Levine possibly can.

TV Rating: 3.5/5.0

Please don’t take this dire commentary on the state of NBC as wish fulfillment on my part. They have taken some remarkable risks this year and currently air some of the best shows on network television — “Community,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Smash,” and, yes, “The Voice.” I probably watch it for personal recreation more than any other broadcast network. But they can’t find a hit. The fact is that they’re still struggling »
