Wil & “Bil” Wheaton Promote Newcastle Scotch Ale In Twitter Video

15 December 2014 2:50 PM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Wil Wheaton loves beer so much that he helped out Newcastle with their new ad campaign. The geeky actor, writer, and home-brewing advocate appeared with his “twin brother” in a Twitter video for Newcastle’s recently-introduced Scotch Ale. In the two-minute video, Wheaton appears with his long-lost twin Bil Wheaton (played by Wil using the split-screen format). Bil operates the boom mic and “translates” Wil’s beer jargon into everyday English so the non-beer fanatics will understand what he’s saying. The ad finishes with Wil taking a sip of the Scotch Ale as Bil recalls how good his brother was in Stand By Me and questions “what happened to him.” Wheaton also worked with Newcastle on a second ad for the Scotch Ale debut called “Unbeknownst.” The actor’s breakout role was as the teen heartthrob Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, Wheaton is more prominently »

The actor and TableTop host on geek culture, not being a dick on the internet, and why gaming needs to stop treating women as an anomaly

Like any fourteen-year-old Star Trek fan, Wil Wheaton dreamed of boldly going where no one had gone before. But unlike others Wheaton got the chance to live out his fantasy when he was cast as Wesley Crusher, the precocious son of the chief medical officer on the starship Enterprise.

“It was a profound experience for me”, Wheaton said. “When I first got to look at the bridge and the engine room and the transporters I wasn’t looking at a set, I was looking at the spaceship I had imagined since I was a child.”

StreamFix: 'Charlie Brown Christmas', 'Almost Famous', More

2 December 2014 6:23 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Here's the best of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Crackle for the beginning of December. So cheer up, Charlie Brown!   Netflix "Almost Famous" Fifteen years after Cameron Crowe's amazing film about his time as a young "Rolling Stone" intern made us fall in love with Kate Hudson, it remains a singular accomplishment. The immersive, heartfelt movie has an incredible soundtrack and great performances across the board. Never forget that Katy Perry had to change her name from Katy Hudson so as not to be confused with Goldie Hawn's Oscar-nominated daughter. "American Beauty" Kevin Spacey's existential crisis. Annette Bening's fury. Thora Birch's woefulness. Chris Cooper's scariness. These are the kinds of things that make a Best Picture. The dream sequences involving Mena Suvari certainly weren't a detriment.  "Batman Forever" Jim Carrey's performance as the Riddler in this cartoonish romp might be the most »

Carol Ann Susi Has Died at 62

"Howard!" It was one word but it conveyed so much when Carol Ann Susi yelled it. The actress, who played Mrs. Wolowitz on the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, died on Tuesday after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. She was 62. While viewers never saw her face on the show, Susi was nevertheless a strong presence, giving a loud voice to Howard's (Simon Helberg) larger-than-life, domineering mother. "The Big Bang Theory family has lost a beloved member today with the passing of Carol Ann Susi," Warner Bros. and the show's producers, Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Bill Prady, »

New on DVD, Blu-ray, and TV: 'Maleficent,' 'The Sopranos,' 'Airplane!'

3 November 2014 10:30 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

At a loss for what to watch this week? From new DVDs and Blu-rays, to what's streaming on Netflix, we've got you covered.

New on DVD and Blu-ray

"Maleficent"

Angelina Jolie's delectably over the top performance as the Sleeping Beauty villain will suck you in to this surprisingly dark take on the fairy tale - dark for Disney, anyway. Elle Fanning co-stars as Aurora, the beautiful but cursed young princess who shows Maleficent the true meaning of love. Sam Riley puts on an entertaining show as Diaval, Malficent's transmogrifying raven.

"Hercules"

If you've been wondering what Brett Ratner's been up to lately, well, here's your answer. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson pumped it up even more to play the mythic hero who is apparently now a mercenary for hire, along with a few other tough guys and one gal. If anything, take a gander at the fruit of Johnson's weight-lifting labor. »

Sharknado 2: The Second One featured almost as many celebrities as flying finned fish, including Kelly Osbourne, Wil Wheaton, Andy Dick, Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. But perhaps the most memorable of the cameos were Matt Lauer and Al Roker. With remarkably deadpan performances, the Today show cohorts (playing themselves) charted the shark-filled storm's bite into the Big Apple, providing some of the funniest moments in last summer's shark-tacular sequel.

The Wil Wheaton Project: Syfy Series Cancelled After One Season

There won't be a second season of The Wil Wheaton Project on Syfy. The summer comedy series has been cancelled after 12 episodes.

Actor/host Wil Wheaton broke the news on his blog, writing that he got the bad news while on his way home from a walk on the beach with his wife.

Though disappointed about the cancellation, Wheaton says...

I’m grateful, though, to the people at Syfy who believed in us and gave us a chance to succeed. I’m grateful for the creative support we got, and I’m grateful that I got to spend my summer working with wonderful, talented, funny people. I grew a lot of levels in comedy writing over the last 18 weeks or so, and I owe it all to the amazing people I got to work with.

Syfy Cancels the The Wil Wheaton Project

30 August 2014 9:39 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Champion of nerds Wil Wheaton announced on his blog yesterday that his Syfy talk show, The Wil Wheaton Project, has been canceled. He got the call while he was hanging out on the beach with his wife, and says that he immediately knew it was bad news. He writes that the New York executives never seemed "to really understand what kind of show we were doing, who I was and why I was hosting it, and how to engage with and promote to the audience who would like it," which led to the show's demise. Generally, though, he's pretty zen about it, and also writes an post-script asking to let the cancellation be what it is. Oh, and let me just stop this before it starts: we nerds have a penchant for letter-writing campaigns and stuff to try and save shows we like. Please don’t do that here. It »
