Western Audiences may not be familiar with bodybuilder-turned action star Alexander Nevsky, but in Russia he’s a bona fide star. Nevsky has been quietly creating his own projects to star in, starting with the surprisingly earnest and stellar film Moscow Heat, which emulated the Walter Hill actioner Red Heat, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Speaking of Schwarzenegger, Nevsky’s build, voice, and demeanor are a striking ringer for Arnold, and Nevsky knows this and plays it to his benefit. Nevsky’s other films include the also quite entertaining genre hybrid mashup Treasure Raiders, which combined the best ingredients of The Fast and the Furious and National Treasure, and he’s back with this year’s serial killer thriller/action film Black Rose, co-starring Kristanna Loken, and a little later in the year with the Expendables-type action flick Showdown in Manila, which »

When an experiment into a new source of natural fuel goes disastrously wrong, a rash of massive hurricanes rips across North America. A scientist, originally responsible for the design of the new power plant but who has walked away from the project, must get his family to safety before the hurricanes merge, creating a “hypercane” with the power to wipe America off the map.
A ridiculous plot, terrible CGI and a former Hollywood superstar slumming it with a bunch of B-list actors… Seems like a step back for mockbuster kings The Asylum if you ask me – especially when their recent films have see the company step up production values and storytelling to craft some great direct-to-market films. »

david j. moore chats with actor Eric Jacobus…
The world has yet to learn the name Eric Jacobus. Ladies and gentlemen, hear the name and speak it because he’s here, and he’s about to break through. Working way off the grid and completely off the radar, Jacobus, a practitioner of Hapkido, has been building himself up through impressive short films and totally independent feature films, namely with two feature films Contour (2006) and Death Grip (2012), both of which he wrote, directed, and starred in, and the outstanding short films Rope-a-Dope (2013), Rope-a-Dope 2 (2015), and this year’s martial arts comedy Blindsided (2017). He’s already appeared in the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy (2014) as Stryker and in Segment A of The ABCs of Death 2 (2014), and he’s on a clear and calculated path of action stardom.

Life - about overly-pretty astronauts finding an alien life form that wants to kill them - seems to be the plot synopsis of a direct-to-vhs film starring Casper Van Dien and Michael Dudikoff that'd collect dust on the wall of a Blockbuster, right? Am I crazy? But that's the beauty of the film, I think. It has a goofy and cliche sci-fi/horror plot, but has... Read More »
