Silent Hill: Revelation Review – A Vile Butchering Of A Classic Game

2 November 2012 2:22 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 1.5 out of 5 stars

Christophe GansSilent Hill, while thoroughly imperfect, was at least a stylistically faithful adaptation of the popular video game, and continues to stand tall as the most reverent one to date. The film’s modest successes are not repeated, however, in Michael J. Bassett’s (Deathwatch, Solomon Kane) inept, offensive butchering of the outstanding third Silent Hill game.

Fans of the game will be acutely aware of why Bassett has chosen not to just adapt the second title in the series, because Silent Hill 3 shares a direct narrative fabric with the first game, whereas the second – easily the best game of the lot – is almost completely unrelated beyond sharing the same setting. And while the first few minutes of Revelation demonstrate some sure promise, accurately replicating the nightmarish carnival scene from the start of the third game, the overly busy, spasmodic direction continually places the viewer at arm’s length. »

Kit Harington Talks Silent Hill: Revelation, His Horror Future, and Game of Thrones

28 October 2012 3:11 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Our cast and crew interviews for Silent Hill: Revelation conclude with Kit Harington, star of "Game of Thrones," who plays "Vincent," and the first thing we discussed was what he could - and couldn't - tell us about the character.

With Sean Bean’s character in peril, providing all the motivation his daughter, Heather (Adelaide Clemens (interview)), needs to head to Silent Hill, one might wonder if Harington's secondary male lead character was there to provide support or maybe act as a love interest. (When the ladies realize Jon Snow from "Game of Thrones" is providing that “support”, they may just drag their friends out to make Silent Hill: Revelation #1 at the box office!)

When we asked if Kit could shed some light on his character, he answered with a sly smile. "Yeah, not really," he said. "My character is quite possibly the most complex in this story, »

Will Silent Hill: Revelation 3D be Remebered? A Movie Review

28 October 2012 1:33 PM, PDT | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

*full disclosure: an early theatrical screening of this film was provided by Alliance Films. **story lines are revealed here. Director/writer: Michael J. Bassett. Cast: Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Malcolm McDowell, Martin Donovan, Deborah Kara Unger, and Roberto Campanella. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is the second film based on a game from Konami. It has been six years since there has been a Silent Hill movie. In this time, the central writer has been changed from the Silent Hill (2006) zealout Roger Avary (Beowulf) to Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane). The story has been affected with this transition. While a continuation of the first film, Bassett's rushed script is light on subplots and heavy on a mildly interesting heroic storyline. Visuals and elements of the occult are strongly present, but there is little tension in this sequel. This is a a solid popcorn flick that »

Adelaide Clemens Talks Silent Hill: Revelation, Battling Monsters, Channeling Ultimate Evil, and More

27 October 2012 1:11 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

A recent trend is taking the stereotypical horror heroine who would normally be resigned to get naked…and then get beheaded…and butch her up. A strong female lead can be every bit as compelling as an overly masculine hero, even more so.

Our heartstrings always pull for a nubile nymph with a chainsaw and heaps of bloody intent.

Adelaide Clemens steps up as the latest femme horror hero, following in the footsteps of the original ladies of Silent Hill (the movie) and actually picking up where one left off. Adelaide plays Heather, formerly Sharon, that timid little girl with a vengeful, vicious dark side in Alessa. Rose (Radha Mitchell) has found a way to send Sharon back to our world, and now daughter and father (Sean Bean) must flee for their lives from the members of a religious sect related to those lost souls who love burning “witches” in their churches. »
