Ed Catto: The 30th Anniversary of Star Trek’s 20th Anniversary

29 August 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Turning 50 doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. In fact, those typical black-and-white “50 years old” party decorations, suggesting that the celebrant is “so old,” seem out of place to me. Fifty can be fun. Fifty can be optimistic. Isn’t Hollywood’s most famous re-invented party boy, Robert Downey, Jr. over 50? Isn’t the always-engaging Marisa Tomei over 50?

This year Star Trek turns 50 and the phenomenon never looked better. There’s a new movie, a new fascinating Star Trek podcasts out there. And now, more than ever, there’s top TV show and even new stamps from the U.S. Post Office. There’s a bunch of -notch merchandise from innovative companies like Titan and Eaglemoss.

But it wasn’t always so. Back when Star Trek was turning 20 the future wasn’t so certain. It was a struggle. Fans were ridiculed. The world at large did not associate »

Stan Lee Supports Zendaya’s Spider-Man: Homecoming Casting

24 August 2016 11:58 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When it was first announced that 19-year-old actress/singer Zendaya had joined the cast of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were told that she’d be playing someone named “Michelle.” Now, while many fans assumed this was some sort of cover to disguise the identity of her real character, it still came as a big surprise that she’d actually be starring as perennial Peter Parker love-interest, Mary ‘Mj’ Watson.

Not as surprising was a portion of the internet’s reaction to this news. Whenever a character is race or gender-bent, you can bet the usual suspects will crawl out of the woodwork to voice their displeasure. But, one man who seems to be firmly behind this casting decision is legendary Marvel writer/creator, Stan Lee.

Here’s what the “Generalissimo” has to say during an interview with The Toronto Sun:

Spider-Man: Homecoming Adds One More To Its Cast

22 August 2016 10:58 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Production may be well underway on the Atlanta set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, with numerous photos to prove it, but it seems that the casting process for the film is still incomplete. We know this because Variety is reporting that Jona Xiao has just boarded the reboot in an unknown role.

Perhaps best known for her work as Julie Yang on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, Xiao is starting to boost her profile a bit, with upcoming gigs like Keeping Up With The Joneses and Gifted. Her part in Homecoming is likely a small one, but it will no doubt be another solid credit for her resume.

In regards to what we know about the upcoming Jon Watts-directed film, very little has surfaced thus far. What we can tell you, though, is that Tom Holland will lead the way as the titular hero and he’ll be flanked by »

James Gunn responds to critics of Zendaya’s potential casting as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming

20 August 2016 1:03 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday it was reported that Zendaya is portraying the character of Mary Jane Watson in Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, as opposed to the previously announced ‘Michelle’. Sadly, while the rumour is yet to be officially confirmed, some fans were quick to express their displeasure over the decision to change the race of the long-time Spidey love interest, prompting Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn to take to Facebook to express his support for the (potential) casting.

“People get upset when something they consider intrinsic to a comic book character changes when adapted for a film. I get this. There are movies I dislike because I think there’s a basic misunderstanding of the story or the character when the comic is transferred to film (I still hate how in the first Batman movie the Joker was revealed as the murderer of Bruce Wayne’s parents, for instance. »

Following on from the reports that Zendaya is playing Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming, an alleged call sheet from the movie has surfaced online via Reddit, which claims to provide character details for the core cast members…

If genuine, the call sheet seems to confirms that Laura Harrier is playing Liz Allan, with Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Angourie Rice is also listed as Betty Brandt (although that’s a different spelling from the Betty Brant of the comic books), while Bokeem Woodbine is listed as supervillain The Shocker. Tiffany Espensen’s character is reportedly called Cindy, which has prompted speculation that she could be playing Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk, and Kenneth Choi, who played the Howling Commando Jim Morita in Captain America: The First Avenger, is also listed as Principal Morita, which suggests some kind of relationship between th the two characters. »

Ever since former Disney star Zendaya was cast as the female lead in Spider-Man: Homecoming, her role, along with much of the film, has been kept a mystery. Now The Wrap is reporting that she is in fact playing Peter Parker’s love interest, Mary-Jane Watson.

Zendaya’s Real Spider-Man: Homecoming Role Reportedly Revealed

18 August 2016 5:22 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When it was first announced that actress/singer Zendaya had joined the cast of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, reports indicated that she’d be playing someone named “Michelle.” Many assumed this must be a minor love interest of Peter Parker’s from the comics, Michelle Gonzales, but apparently the young star is actually going to be a new incarnation of a much more prominent character: Mary ‘Mj’ Watson.

The news comes via The Wrap, who reckon they’ve managed to confirm this through a couple of well placed sources – but, we should keep in mind that there’s still nothing official from the studios.

Mary Jane is by far the most iconic female character in Spider-Man lore, so it does make sense that they’d want to feature a new interpretation of her in this latest reboot. Kirsten Dunst played Mj in Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, and »

Last month, director Jon Watts and several of his stars from Spider-Man: Homecoming took a break in the production to unveil the first footage at Comic-Con. Unfortunately, that footage hasn't been released online, but we have seen a number of photos from the set featuring Tom Holland in his full Spider-Man costume. A new convention is taking place in Las Vegas this week, where the first poster for Spider-Man: Homecoming was spotted.

The poster surfaced earlier today on Twitter, which shows Tom Holland hanging upside down in his full Spidey suit. The poster was on display at the Magic Las Vegas convention for apparel vendors at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which got under way today. It isn't known when this poster may be released officially, or if that may happen at all. Rumour: Spider-Man: Homecoming’s The Tinkerer has connections to an Avenger and another classic Spidey villain

12 August 2016 1:37 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It was announced just a few days ago that Orange is the New Black‘s Michael Chernus had been added to the rather large cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming as Phineas Mason aka The Tinkerer. Well Heroic Hollywood claim to have the scoop on the character, and his role in the movie.

Warning – potential spoilers below.

According to the site, Mason is a former employee of Tony Stark and was personally fired by the man himself a few years ago, making it a post-Avengers event. As he is in the comics, Mason will provide technology for The Vulture and classic Spider-Man villain The Shocker, who will be played by Bokeem Woodbine. Not only that, but all of Tinkerer’s tech comes from Chitari technology.

With Robert Downey Jr. set to reprise his role of Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems likely that The Tinkerer will have some sort of connection to him. »
