Barbra Streisand Asked Apple CEO To Change The Way Siri Pronounces Her Name

21 August 2016 12:52 PM, PDT | ET Canada | See recent ET Canada news »

If you ever question your iPhone about Barbra Streisand, expect to hear Siri respond by pronouncing the iconic singer’s name incorrectly — Strei-zand instead the way it’s supposed to be uttered. Rather than shrug her shoulders and let it go, however, the “Funny Girl” star has the clout to actually do something about it. “She […] »

Barbra Streisand Brings Siri Kvetch Directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook (Audio)

20 August 2016 11:53 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Barbra Streisand is annoyed with how Siri pronounces her name — stars, they’re just like us! The Apple robot mispronounces the singer’s surname “Strei-zand,” not the correct “Strei-sand,” with a soft “s.” This is a big problem, so Babs leapt into action to rectify it. “I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally, with the next update on September 30,” Streisand said during a “Weekend Edition Saturday” NPR interview. “So, let’s see if that happens, because I’ll be thrilled.” Also Read: Kanye West Wants Apple to Buy Tidal. »

Newswire: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born remake will sing at Warner Bros.

The stars have most certainly not lost their glitter for Warner Bros. Deadline reports that the studio has officially said yes to the A Star Is Born remake starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, who will also direct. The project, which once had Clint Eastwood attached, is a long-gestating one. At multiple points in its journey, Beyoncé was reportedly sought out to lead the cast. However, since Lady Gaga’s been attempting some sort of Judy Garland cosplay for the last couple of years, it makes sense that she ultimately landed the part. She and Cooper will play the central newcomer-veteran couple embodied by Garland and James Mason in 1954 and Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976. It’s unclear just how modern Cooper’s take on the story is going to be. Our personal hope is just that Gaga’s character is named Esther, as she was in »

Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga team for A Star Is Born remake

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will star in the fourth version of A Star Is Born. Cooper will also direct the movie....

Never let it be said that Hollywood doesn’t love its own mythology. The story of a romance between an ingénue and an industry veteran that sees her fortunes rise as his falls is as old as the business itself. In fact, A Star Is Born has been made three times already, telling that exact same plot. So why not a fourth for 21st century sensibilities starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga?

Indeed, Warner Bros has greenlit just such a movie, and it not only marks Gaga’s big screen debut in a leading role, but it will also be Cooper’s first time in the director’s chair. Having made the deal with Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros, »

Emmy-Nominated ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Penny Dreadful’ Hairstylists Share Their Secrets

Between a glamorous turn-of-the-century gala in NYC, a blood-soaked ball in Victorian London, a wintertime wedding in 1920s Yorkshire, a sexy ’60s Midwest soiree, and a sojourn through a medieval fantasyland, this year’s five Emmy nominees for hairstyling for a single-camera series faced many a hair-raising challenge. But as all five of the nominated head hairstylists say, the chance to flaunt period coifs that have taken months to perfect was worth the sleepless nights and 12-hour days.

Downton Abbey

From dinner at the Ritz to a hospital board meeting, an engagement celebration at a castle to a Christmastime wedding at Downton Abbey, “all the scenes really helped showcase the variety of hairstyles from a different period of time,” says Nic Collins of “Episode 9.” The series finale culminated with a New Year’s celebration that bid adieu both to 1925 and the beloved PBS show.

Seth Rogen responds to Katherine Heigl's 'Knocked Up' apology

8 August 2016 11:40 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Howard Stern Show regular Seth Rogen was on the show this morning to promote his forthcoming R-rated animated raunch-fest Sausage Party, and reliably dropped a few choice anecdotes in the process, with trademark guffaw in tow. Here are five big highlights from the conversation. 1. He was "hurt" by Knocked Up co-star Katherine Heigl's criticisms of the 2007 film but is nevertheless sympathetic to the actress, who discussed her awkward run-in with Rogen during an appearance on the show back in April. Heigl's critical comments about the Judd Apatow-directed hit -- which saw her slamming the film as "sexist," among other things -- made Rogen feel as if his "trust" was "betrayed" by his co-star, whom he says could have voiced her concerns "at any moment" during filming. "We have a very open process. You have the ability to say anything at any moment," said Rogen. "'I don't like this scene. »

Ken Barrie obituary

Voice of the children’s TV favourite Postman Pat

The jaunty theme song to the children’s television show Postman Pat, sung by Ken Barrie, has been the soundtrack to many childhoods and in 1982 became a UK Top 50 hit. Barrie also provided the voice of Pat Clifton, the kindly Royal Mail worker delivering letters in the fictional valley of Greendale in the animated series. The words of the song – opening with “Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his black and white cat … ” – accompanied a sequence showing Pat picking up the post from Mrs Goggins, the postmistress, and travelling in a bright-red van with his feline sidekick, Jess, up hill and down dale in a beautiful location that the programme’s creator, John Cunliffe, based on the picturesque Lake District village of Longsleddale.

Barbra Streisand’s ‘Gypsy’ Loses STX Entertainment Backing

3 August 2016 5:52 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

STX Entertainment has backed away from financing Barbra Streisand’s remake of “Gypsy” with Barry Levinson directing and Joel Silver producing.

Stx had no comment about the project. In April, Variety reported that the two-year-old studio had come on board “Gypsy” after picking it up out of turnaround from Universal, where it had been in development for several years.

Streisand was to produce the film with Silver, best known for the “Lethal Weapon” franchise.  Richard Lagravenese was attached to write the film, with Streisand involved in developing the script.

“It’s Barbra Streisand doing one more, if not the last, movie musical of her career,” Stx’s Adam Fogelson told Variety in April.

“Gypsy” tells the story of  the burlesque legend Gypsy Rose Lee, based on her 1957 memoir about her career and hard-as-nails stage mother. That book served as the inspiration for the highly successful 1959 musical, starring Ethel Merman, with »

STX Entertainment has dropped plans to finance Barbra Streisand‘s musical remake of “Gypsy” with Barry Levinson directing, a person familiar with the situation told TheWrap. Streisand is still attached to star and produce with Joel Silver (“Lethal Weapon”), who will be shopping the project to other companies. “Gypsy” has had a troubled development history dating back to STX motion picture group chairman Adam Fogelson‘s days as head of Universal Pictures. The studio spent years developing “Gypsy” — at one point Streisand planned to direct as well as star as the ultimate stage mother, Mama Rose — but put the project into. »

There may be some method to the madness of Barbra Streisand recently quickening her touring pace to the point that there are only four years between shows now. “It’s funny that I always seem to go on these little tours during election seasons,” she said Tuesday night during the kickoff of a nine-city outing at Los Angeles' Staples Center. “And this one is a doozy, isn’t it?” The answer would be yes, on both counts — both the election, which spurred several predictably barbed anti-Trump comments during the opening-night asides, and the “little tour” itself, which,

Stx Entertainment pulls out of 'Gypsy'

The studio will no longer distribute and co-finance the Barbra Streisand project about Momma Rose, according to reports.

Stx chairman of the motion picture group Adam Fogelson acquired the film in turnaround from his former employers Universal Pictures after that studio struggled to get the project off the ground.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the proposition became riskier for Stx after sources said financier Len Blavatnik pulled out of funding up to one-third of the $50m-plus production.

Streisand, director Barry Levinson and producer Joel Silver will continue to shop the project around Hollywood.

Richard Lagravenese adapted the screenplay from the Stephen Sondheim musical about a tough mother who drives the vaudeville careers of her two children, one of whom becomes the legendary striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee. »
