William Shatner wants to play Captain Kirk again

23 June 2016 1:46 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It looks like William Shatner is wide open to returning to his most iconic role of Captain Kirk. The 85-year-old actor was speaking at the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles where he urged fans to write to the studio to make a return to the role in a future movie possible.

The role is played by Chris Pine in the forthcoming Star Trek sequel Star Trek Beyond, which hits cinemas next month after a world premiere at the San Diego Comic Con. Shatner denied that he is in the film, but would be open to a return in a future movie.

“We’d all be open to it, but it’s not going to happen,” he said.

“The fans would love to see it. Have them write to Jj Abrams at Paramount Studios.” He added.

Chris Pine recently spoke about a potential team-up with Kirk in a future movie. He spoke to SFX. »

What do U.S. military veterans know about making movies? If the early success of the zombie comedy “Range 15” is any indication — kind of a lot, actually.

Billed as the first film to be produced by and star primarily U.S. military veterans, the movie claimed the Best Film Award at the GI Film Festival last month and has already generated more than $500,000 in its first week at the box office, showing on more than 550 screens through the crowdsourcing company Tugg, which lets individuals choose a film they want to pay to see in theaters. The film first hit theaters on Wednesday, June 15.

Review: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Director’s Cut

6 June 2016 11:06 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Home Video fans have a lot to look forward to as Paramount Home Entertainment releases a variety of Star Trek material this year. First up and arriving Tuesday, just days after its 34th anniversary is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Director’s Cut. This is the first time director Nicholas Meyer’s version of the now-classic film is available on Blu-ray.

There’s little left to say about just how good the film is and looking back, we can easily see the affection both cast and crew put into the production. There was a gamble in bringing in Harve Bennett to produce and Meyer to direct only because neither had been a part of Trek previously and Paramount needed the film to be a major success to salvage the franchise.

Thankfully, Bennett understand the genre and Meyer was a gifted novelist and filmmaker so got down to the core elements. »

Happy 15th Birthday, ‘Moulin Rouge!’

1 June 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It was 15 years ago today that Moulin Rouge! opened in theaters across the U.S. The opening followed a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and New York and Los Angeles premieres the month prior. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman made us all swoon with their charm and their palpable chemistry in the heartfelt, old-fashioned, tragic love story of Christian and Satine (very old-fashioned, in a sense — director Baz Luhrmann has said he drew from the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice in writing the film). The spectacular spectacular of Moulin Rogue! didn’t win over everybody — Luhrmann’s glitzy, dazzling style has been quite divisive over the years. But the film caught the attention of Oscars voters — it was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including wins for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. Beyond the technical categories, the film earned Kidman her first Oscar nomination, and with a Best Picture nomination, »

Christopher Lombardo & Jeff Kirschner Give Their Diagnosis of Healthcare Horror Movies

27 May 2016 4:35 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

[Guest authors Christopher Lombardo and Jeff Kirschner of Really Awful Movies share their diagnosis of healthcare horror movies with Daily Dead readers.] When the Us was overhauling its healthcare system, much to-do was made about so-called “death panels,” government committees who would decide who lives and dies based on asset allocation. As far as healthcare horrors are concerned, it turns out that playing God is very real, but luckily only in film and Sarah Palin’s fright-filled imagination. Nefarious nurses, murderous docs, and psychopathic hallway stalkers in horror movies have effectively put end-of-life issues at the forefront, but not in a way that can be reasonably debated: your life, their ending of it.

We’ve decided to weigh in on the healthcare hullabaloo by looking at fictional settings that make One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest look like the height of patient-centered thinking. So sit back and self-medicate with whatever’s in the fridge (or better still, the medicine cabinet) and take these seven healthcare horrors—but don’t call us in the morning. »

5 Best Comedy Roasts of All Time

27 May 2016 3:19 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

If Betty White has taught us anything, it's that being old doesn't mean you're not hilarious. It also doesn't mean you're not really, really vulgar when the battlefield of comedy needs you to drop some serious F-bombs.

By entertainment standards, the roast -- a concept originated by the Friar's Club fraternity way back in 1907 -- is an absolute dinosaur. But it's like a T. rex that assaults you with politically incorrect character assassination and ridiculous celebrity humiliation instead of killer jaws and tiny arms -- old as it is, the roast walks the razor's edge of "too funny" and "too far." Here are five times the comics got that balance exactly right.

1. Charlie Sheen (2011)

"I respect Charlie Sheen, I do ... not his body of work ... it's all been very Christian Slater-ish ... he sucks, but he's good, but he sucks at the same time." And so it was that the »

Did you know that Capt. Kirk is Canadian?Ok, that's a bit of a stretch. But William Shatner, who played Capt. Kirk in the original "Star Trek," is most definitely Canadian, hailing from Montreal.
