Kathy Griffin Roast Host For "Comedy Central Roast Of Joan Rivers"

8 July 2009 9:26 AM, PDT | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Joan Rivers has been tucked, pulled, and now she'll be roasted. Yes, the comedian known for her no-holds-barred comedy will be on the receiving end this time as Comedy Central hosts the "Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers." Who else will host but fellow brash female comedian Kathy Griffin?

Griffin will take time out from her heavily watched "D-List" activities to join Rivers as Roast Master. Griffin, as only she could, said that she'll be giving Rivers a "verbal pap smear."

"I will be roasting Joan with more gentleness and tenderness than her latest chemical peel and, on the other hand, I will give her a verbal pap smear and god only knows what I'm going to find down there," Griffin said.

Comedy Central has recently hosted roasts for Bob Saget, William Shatner, and Pamela Anderson. The "Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers" will air Sunday, August 9th at 10pm Et/Pt.

Treknobabble #70: Across the Star Trek Universe

8 July 2009 6:03 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Treknobabble [1] is a continuing series of columns written by uber-Trekkie Reed Farrington about Star Trek and how it has influenced his life. You know when you find something that you like, whether it be a song or book or movie or whatever, and you want to share that something with family and friends? And you really hope that they share the same feeling about that something? Or how about the feeling that you get when you find out that the creators of things you admire are fans of each other? I’ve grown to agree with the familiar saying that you can judge a man by the friends he has. I suppose in trying to understand myself, I’ve been trying to assess the commonality among all my interests by looking at the people behind my interests. Although this may sound self-serving, I agree with Plato in his statement that

T.J. Hooker Heading to the Big Screen

8 July 2009 2:55 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

Variety reports that the 80's TV series T.J. Hooker, which starred William Shatner as a police detective who returns to his old job as a patrol sergeant after his partner is killed, is getting a big-screen adaptation.

The series, which ran for five seasons on two networks as a serious crime drama, will be an action comedy on the big screen and concentrate on Hooker and his relationship with his father (Shatner, perhaps?).

Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) is in talks to direct, while writing partners Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (Wild Wild West, Tremors) will be in charge of the script. No actors have been cast yet.

With Hooker racing to theaters, is Hardcastle and McCormick far behind? It may even help Magnum P.I. get off the ground.

T.J. Hooker: Cop Series to Get Big Screen Treatment; Will Shatner Be In It?

7 July 2009 2:04 AM, PDT | From TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news

Yet another William Shatner TV series is heading to movie theaters. This time, it's T.J. Hooker, the cop show executive produced by Aaron Spelling during his legendary run on ABC. Shatner didn't get to be in the recent Star Trek reboot, will he be in this movie?

T.J. Hooker revolves around a veteran cop (Shatner) who, after his plainclothes partner is killed in the line of duty, returns to the streets as a patrol sergeant. He's assigned to train academy recruits and is partnered with a young, headstrong rookie named Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed). Others in the series include Heather Locklear, James Darren, Richard Herd, and Hugh Farrington.

The series ran for two seasons on ABC as an hour-long drama before the alphabet network cancelled it. CBS then picked it up for two more seasons but assigned it to the late night "Crime Time After Prime-Time" schedule, running opposite The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

‘T.J. Hooker’ Movie Completes TV Adaptation Bingo

6 July 2009 7:06 PM, PDT | From newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news

Before you can say, “Hey, I remember that show” Hollywood has greenlit an adaptation of “T.J. Hooker,” the 80’s cop show starring William Shatner.  Anyone looking to connect the squares between the Dukes of Hazzard and Charlie’s Angels on their “Bad TV Adaptations” bingo card, this is your lucky day.  However, this is bad news to the guy holding out for “Walker Texas Ranger.”

According to Variety, the series is being revived as an “action comedy,” which gets half of the punchline status of this show right.  Even Shatner knew this show was a joke when he spoofed it on “Saturday Night Live” over twenty years ago.  But if Star Trek can become ten feature films and then start over, why not… T.J. Hooker?

Chuck Russell, who directed such classics as The Scorpion King and Jim Carrey’s The Mask, is in talks to direct and we’re all really pulling for him.

Tj Hooker Headed for the Big Screen

6 July 2009 5:30 PM, PDT | From WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news

"Tj Hooker" is headed for the big screen as an action comedy with series creator Rick Husky producing and Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King, The Mask) is in talks to direct. The writing team of Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (Short Circuit, Wild Wild West) will script the story, which focuses on the relationship between the title character and his father. No actors have been cast yet for the feature. The TV series, produced by Aaron Spelling, debuted in 1982 on ABC and ran for five seasons, the last on CBS. William Shatner starred as a no-nonsense patrol sergeant, with Adrian Zmed, Heather Locklear, Richard Herd and James Darren as co-stars. "The series was the poster child for cop TV shows in the 1980s with great stunts, so we think there's a fun movie to be made from it," said producer Ryan Heppe.

T.J. Hooker Assigned to the Big Screen

6 July 2009 1:23 PM, PDT | From TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news

T.J. Hooker is primed to drop his pension and come out of retirement to resume patrol in a larger neighborhood. Variety is reporting David Foster and Ryan Heppe, currently working on another "why?" remake of Short Circuit, have teamed with series creator Rick Husky to produce a big screen version of T.J. Hooker as an "action comedy" centered around the title character and his father. T.J. Hooker ran five seasons and starred William Shatner as the venerable cop, a very blond Heather Locklear unafraid to don short shorts, Adrian Zmed, Richard Herd and James Darren. Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, also working on Short Circuit, are on board to pen the script with Chuck Russell of The Scorpion King fame in negotiations to direct. I put the odds of Shatner placing a phone call to play the "father" character at or around 1 to 1.

T.J. Hooker gets promoted to the movies

6 July 2009 12:54 PM, PDT | From Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news

If it worked for Star Trek, why not for T.J. Hooker? The man that created the hour-long cop show that was a staple on ABC's line-up in the early 1980s wants to bring the L.A. beat street cop to the big screen, but where the original Hooker was an action-drama the movie is being envisioned as an action-comedy. With a name like "Hooker" that makes sense, donnit?

Rick Husky was the creator of T.J. Hooker and he's attached as a producer on the film along with David Foster and Ryan Heppe. Director Chuck Russell of The Scorpion King and The Mask fame is working out a contract that would see him call action on the set of the film while screenwriters Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (the Tremors series, Wild Wild West) will write the story. Variety found out that Maddock and Wilson's take on the movie Hooker will

Get Ready for "T.J. Hooker" the Movie!

6 July 2009 10:55 AM, PDT | From Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news

"T.J. Hooker" will get the movie makeover as an action comedy!

The hit TV show from the 80s gets its movie adaptation from producers David Foster, Ryan Heppe, and series creator Rick Husky.

Chuck Russell, the guy who gave us "The Scorpion King" and "The Mask" is negotiating to direct.

The film version will focus on the relationship between our hero, T.J., and his dad. But I don't know how the writing team of Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson will make the characters and the plot interesting. The writing duo gave us "Wild Wild West" (I know, not a good sign) and many "Tremors" films (yeah, definitely not a good sign!).

No word yet on the cast, or whether William Shatner, the original Sgt. Thomas J. 'T.J.' Hooker, will make a cameo. What about series originals Adrian Zmed and Heather Locklear?

For now, let's take a look

Starring William Shatner and Heather Locklear, the popular cop drama is getting itself revamped on the big screen. Director Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) is being tracked down to take part of the adaptation, joining the creator of the series Rick Husky who will be producing.

Big Screen ‘T.J. Hooker’ Adaptation in the Works

6 July 2009 7:30 AM, PDT | From The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news

According to Variety, the latest tv show to get the big screen treatment will be none other than the William Shatner mid-eighties police drama T.J. Hooker. No, that’s not a typo, I said T.J. Hooker. Is this another sign of the pending apocalypse or further proof that Hollywood has completely run out of original ideas? Perhaps both.

In case you were not a fan of the original series or its star William Shatner, the show centered on Shatner’s character, a no-nonsense police sergeant who, among other things, bossed around the young and beautiful Heather Locklear, the young and hunky Adrian Zmed and occasionally caught some bad guys in the process. Producing the action comedy will be David Foster, Ryan Heppe and series creator Rick Husky.

William Shatner’s past performances just keep living, breathing, and remaking themselves. “Star Trek” is now neatly rebooted with J.J. Abrams and Chris Pine. Someone stop the madness! Yet another '80s property is being prepped for the big screen: the William Shatner-fronted cop show T.J. Hooker! I must admit, I don't remember much about the TV show, which may have been just slightly ahead of my time (it ran from 1982 to 1986). It was produced by Aaron Spelling and in addition to the Shatman it also starred Heather Locklear, Adrian Zmed, James Darren and Richard Herd. Shatner played Thomas "T.J." The Tj Hooker Movie Is Moving Forward

6 July 2009 5:58 AM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

Stay with this story for the frightening clue that the Tj Hooker movie is actually going to star William Shatner. It's worth it for the shudder factor. Variety have named Chuck Russell as the director out in the lead for the Tj Hooker gig. The screenplay is being written by Brent Maddock and SS Wilson, who previously took up pens for Tremors, Short Circuit and Ghost Dad. While the 80s TV series was a straight up cop action drama, his movie is being pegged as a comedy, perhaps inevitably. The plot details available from Variety are vague but perhaps very telling, revealing that the story "focuses on the relationship between the title character and his father". There was no father in the original set-up, so I think I can sniff out the gimmick here. This new Tj Hooker will be, I guess, 'the next generation'. My hunch is that Shatner

Watch out: 'T.J. Hooker' comes to big screen

6 July 2009 12:12 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

While some television shows from the past are being resurrected and updated for today's TV viewers, others are headed for the big screen. The latest one to make the cut: "T.J. Hooker," the 1980s crime drama series produced by Aaron Spelling.

Variety reports the concept of the series will be repackaged into an action comedy, with Chuck Russell in talks to direct the project. Russell's credits include "The Mask" and "Eraser."

The original series starred William Shatner as Sgt. T.J. Hooker and focused on his adventures with his partner Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed). Heather Locklear co-starred in most of the show's 90 episodes.

Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson ("Wild Wild West") will write the script for the big-screen version, which apparently focuses on the relationship between Hooker and his dad. No actors are in talks yet.

No word yet on when you can plan on getting 'hooked' in theaters.
