‘The Avengers 2′? Make No Loki About It.

17 June 2013 12:04 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

For a huge portion of the human race, the only thing worse than the pun I used in title of this article is the fact that Tom Hiddleston will not be returning for The Avengers 2. Joss Whedon confirmed the news during an Empire Movie Podcast to discuss his latest offering, the retelling of Shakespeare’s (Google him) Much Ado About Nothing. Speaking of the superhero blockbuster sequel’s progress, Whedon commented:

I’ve turned in a first draft, but the story is very set. Everybody’s very much on board with the exact movie I’m trying to make which is what worked the first time.

But when pressed for a bit more information Whedon said:

Immitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, and Loki is not there to say those terrible things.

So there you have it. »

B-Sides: Scorpions Hit Freejack Between the Eyes

15 June 2013 10:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Two things have always remained with me from Geoff Murphy's 1992 sci-fi action flick Freejack. The first is how Rene Russo’s character was supposed to age 18 years, but only her hairstyle changed. The second is “Hit Between the Eyes”, the title song provided by the Scorpions.

Based on Robert Sheckley's novel Immortality, Inc., which was set thousands of years in the future rather than 18 years later, Freejack stars Emilio Estevez as a racecar driver teleported at the moment of his fiery fatal car wreck from 1991 to the futuristic world of 2009, a time in which the hole in the ozone layer has ravaged the impoverished populace, bubble cars are the most popular vehicle, and dying billionaire Anthony Hopkins plans to transplant his mind into Estevez’s body. Emilio escapes, is branded a “freejack,” and now finds himself pursued by evil bounty hunters called “bonejackers” led by Mick Jagger in »

The sequel also sees Natalie Portman's Jane Foster's introduction to Asgard and the Nine Realms of Norse mythology.

Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano and Sir Anthony Hopkins are among the returning cast.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi and Eccleston have been added to the cast for the Thor sequel.

New Images from Thor: The Dark World

5 June 2013 7:26 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

New images from Thor: The Dark World have been released along with higher-quality versions of previously released images.  The sequel, directed by Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor, will find Thor (Chris Hemsworth) squaring off against the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston).  These images continue to give us a better look at Malekith, and his very cool mask.  For those who complained that Thor took the magic away from the character by depriving him of his powers and throwing him down to Earth, it looks like The Dark World won't have that problem.  We've seen the character in two mostly-earthbound movies, and now it's time to get him fighting on his home turf. Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Natalie PortmanTom HiddlestonStellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, »

New Stills From ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Plus More Trouble Behind-The-Scenes

30 May 2013 2:37 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

A few new images have surfaced from Marvel Studios intergalactic superhero sequel Thor: The Dark World. Chris Hemsworth returns as the goldilocked hammer-swinging demigod, who’ll do battle with Christopher Eccleston’s evil Malekith and his army of Dark Elves. He’ll also be reunited with lost lover Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and fellow Earth pals Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) in the blockbuster being directed by Game Of ThronesAlan Taylor.

Well, we say Taylor but apparently there are significant problems in post-production between Taylor and Marvel chief Kevin Feige that could threaten the directors name being attached. Both are puffing chests over the film’s running time with Taylor’s vision coming in at 150 minutes, while Feige is adamant he’s contracted for a cut no longer than 120 minutes. There is talk of a mediator being brought in to broker a compromise »

Five New 'Thor: The Dark World' Pictures Featuring Malekith and the Dark Elf Army

30 May 2013 2:15 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I honestly have absolutely no idea what I am even talking about when it comes to the headline above, but that's the information I'm working with when it comes to five new pictures from Thor: The Dark World, which have just premiered. The pic directly above is of Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) the film's chief villain and directly below, I'm assuming, is his Dark Elf army that will do his bidding without question. The new shots also feature Chris Hemsworth as Thor as well as director Alan Taylor. Thor: The Dark World recently suffered a minor snag as composer Carter Burwell departed the picture apparently over creative differences, which is the standard go-to reasoning in Hollywood. The film would have marked Burwell's first superhero feature after working on the likes of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and 2, True Grit, The Blind Side and Where the Wild Things Are over the last few years. »

Marvel replacing composer on Thor: The Dark World, unhappy with director Alan Taylor?

29 May 2013 11:12 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After getting Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe off to a fine start with the blockbuster sequel Iron Man 3, this week has brought rumours that all may not be well behind-the-scenes on Marvel Studios' next offering Thor: The Dark World.

According to a report on Film Score Monthly, composer Carter Burwell (True Grit) has left the sequel, while the Marvel is also said to be unhappy with director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), who has allegedly been asked "to take a long vacation After the film opens." While we're yet to hear anything official about Taylor's status on Thor: The Dark World, Deadline has now "exclusively" revealed that Burwell is indeed off the sequel in what is being described as "a creative split". As yet, there's no word on a new composer, although Marvel is said to be close to announcing a replacement.

Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has of late been at the centre of much rumour and anticipation. Will Robert Downey Jr. return and clear a check that could wipe most third world countries out of debt? Will Guardians Of The Galaxy contain every villain imaginable being played by the least likely actors? Amidst all this excitement for Marvel’s Phase Three we’d sort of forgotten about their next release.

Thor: The Dark World is still six months away from our cinema screens and it marks the second film out of the gates for Phase Two. Just in time to get us prepared for the God Of Thunder’s return, the latest issue of Empire has a crop of new images.

New Photos From Thor: The Dark World and Rumored Director Issues

27 May 2013 6:10 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

There's a rumor going around the internet that Marvel isn't happy with director Alan Taylor and what he's done with Thor: The Dark World. According to a commenter named Ford A. Thaxton on Film Score Monthly, Thor composer Carter Burwell will not be involved with the film anymore...

Fyi, I checked with a Really Well Informed Source and it was confirmed. Carter is off the film.

He then added:

It also appears so is the director who seems to have been asked to take a long vacation until After the film opens. I've [heard] one replacement name being mentioned which would be a very interesting replacement and is a Very Talented composer as well. We'll see if he gets the gig.

There's no confirmation of this, but apparently this Thaxton guy has a reputation for posting info that ends up being true. That doesn't mean this is true though. We've heard »
