Now that The Avengers is out of the way, Marvel Studios is pressing ahead with subsequent solo instalments in the Cinematic Universe, beginning with the Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3. In addition to Favreau, it has also been reported that Ashley Hamilton (Sunset Beach) is in talks to join the cast in the role of Firepower, which Variety describes as “a small part”. 'The Thomas Crown Affair': A Look Back At The Classic Caper

9 May 2012 2:44 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

"The Thomas Crown Affair" was one of the most stylish movies of the 1960s -- stylish for the icy cool of Steve McQueen as the millionaire who robs banks for kicks; for the similarly frosty cool of Faye Dunaway as the investigator who plays an erotic game of cat-and-mouse with him; for the costumes of Theadora Van Runkle, who helped make Dunaway a fashion trendsetter in "Bonnie and Clyde" and did the same for her here with no fewer than 29 haute-couture outfits; for the jazzy score of Michel Legrand, including the Oscar-winning ballad "The Windmills of Your Mind"; and for the camera trickery of director Norman Jewison, the first Hollywood filmmaker to shoot heist scenes and love scenes in split-screen. The 1968 caper flick was a favorite of both McQueen and Dunaway, as well as of moviegoers, many of whom prefer it to the similarly slick 1999 remake that starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. »

Chris Hemsworth on Thor 2 director Alan Taylor

25 April 2012 12:02 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Avengers hasn't even hit cinemas yet [just a couple of days to go here in the UK now though...] but two of Earth's Mightiest Heroes are already bracing themselves for a quick return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth gearing up for respective solo sequels. Furthermore, both stars will be joined by new directors as Shane Black takes over from Jon Favreau on Iron Man 3 and Alan Taylor steps in for Kenneth Branagh on Thor 2.

While Black is a name immediately recognisable to anyone familiar with the likes of the Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Taylor is best known for his work on the small screen, having raked up a host of credits on acclaimed shows such as The West Wing, Sex and the City, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire - not to mention his fantastic work on HBO's epic fantasy series Game of Thrones. »

After finishing Darkman in 1990, Sam Raimi pitched a Thor movie to 20th Century Fox who apparently did not understand it. It wasn’t until the success of Bryan Singer’s X-Men that Fox thought they could get »

Scoot McNairy Goes to ‘Promised Land’; Gets ‘Touchy Feely’ With Lynn Shelton and Ellen Page

12 April 2012 11:59 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

The next couple of years should be plenty nice for Scoot McNairy. This fall alone will see the Monsters actor take (what look to be) moderately-sized roles in two promising awards contenders (Ben Affleck‘s Argo and Andrew Dominik‘s Killing Them Softly), but Deadline now reports that he’s just grabbed two more features — both of which could also end strongly in their own right.

The first (and biggest) of these would be Promised Land, Gus Van Sant‘s fracking drama that stars and is co-written by Matt Damon and John Krasinski; in it, he’ll play the leader of “a group of farmers that stand up when Damon’s character tries to drill on their land.” Frances McDormand, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Hal Holbrook also star.

He’ll then reunite with DeWitt on Touchy Feely, a new drama from Lynn Shelton (Humpday, Your Sister’s Sister) that also stars Ellen Page. »

Scoot McNairy Joins New Lynn Shelton Pic 'Touchy Feely' With Ellen Page And Rosemarie DeWitt & Gus Van Sant's 'Promised Land'

12 April 2012 9:17 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

A new Lynn Shelton movie appears to be brewing out of nowhere, while the latest from Gus Van Sant and Matt Damon has added an actor, and at the center of it all is rising "Monsters" star Scoot McNairy.

Ellen Page, Rosemarie DeWitt, Josh Pais and McNairy have joined "Touchy Feely," the next film from writer/director Lynn Shelton whose latest effort, "Your Sister's Sister," heads into theaters this spring. This is pretty much the first we're hearing about this project and it starts rolling very soon. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it will be shot using the same organic approach as her last film. We've also learned that Allison Janney and Ron Livingstone are also in talks for roles.

Meanwhile, McNairy will also join DeWitt along with Damon, John Krasinksi, Frances McDormand and Hal Holbrook in Gus Van Sant's "The Promised Land." Initially birthed from an idea by Dave Eggers, »

Scoot McNairy Tapped For ‘Promised Land’ And ‘Touchy Feely’

12 April 2012 7:26 AM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Actor Scoot McNairy has joined the Gus Van Sant-directed Promised Land, and has landed the male lead in the Lynn Shelton-directed Touchy Feely, opposite Ellen Page and Rosemarie DeWitt. In the Matt Damon-John Strasinski-starrer Promised Land, McNairy leads a group of farmers that stand up when Damon’s character tries to drill on their land. McNairy is separately producing with his manager/producing partner John Pierce the indie film Frank and Cindy, which Gj Echternkamp will direct. Rene Russo and Michael Pena will star. The film is a scripted version of Echternkamp’s documentary, which focused on the filmmaker’s dysfunctional parents and his relationship with them. McNairy will next be seen in the Andrew Dominik-directed Killing Me Softly opposite Brad Pitt, and the Ben Affleck-directed Argo for Warner Bros. He is repped by ICM and The Group Management. »

The Week in Spandex – The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor 2, The Wolverine, Marvel TV, Deadpool, Young Justice, Arrow and more…

25 March 2012 11:24 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Our weekly round-up of all the biggest news stories from the world of movie superheroes…

The big story this past week is the complete non-story about the running time for Christopher Nolan’s rough cut of The Dark Knight Rises clocking in at four-hours, which stemmed from a blatantly obvious throwaway joke over at MTV that was immediately picked up as gospel by virtually every media outlet under the sun. The fact that the ‘story’ spread like wildfire just goes to highlight the recent drought in all things Batman, although a few interesting bits and pieces have popped up lately, including a short synopsis taken from the packaging of a tie-in product and rumours [now sadly debunked] that Nolan and company may descend on Comic Con to promote the release of the hugely anticipated sequel. Meanwhile ComicBookMovie also unearthed some new promo images of Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy) and a gun-toting »

Before The Dark Knight Rises – 10 Batman Films That Never Were

11 March 2012 5:24 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Gotham City is a environment open to interpretation. One reader may view the urban conurbation as a land synonymous with fantastical tragedy with Gothic demonic structures rupturing from Hell, reaching to infect the Heavens with venomous smog and liquid night. An operatic land so immersed in darkness and corruption, that its evil dons the comforting smile of a jester – whilst its only hero basks in shadows; wearing the sinister, almost Satanic, image of a Bat.

Others may conjure the conception of hope from the Detective Comic pages – hope that heroism can prosper in the most dire of places – whilst some might synthesise The Dark Knight’s world of urban decadence with our own; thriving on the comic’s presentation of post-modern realism. This is precisely what makes Batman a tremendous character to watch on screen. With every new director; be it Burton, Schumacher or Nolan, we are presented with a »
