Can You Name all of the “The Many Faces of Kurt Russell?”

16 October 2017 2:00 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Some actors are able to take on so many different roles that you begin to wonder just who their favorite is and whether or not they prefer one type of role to another. Kurt Russell might not be the man of a thousand faces but his roles are almost always different in some way even if they allow him to be the tough guy. The fun thing is that he’s been the tough guy in so many different ways that you can’t help but recognize the talent he brings and the excitement that comes when you realize he’s in the

The Thing, 1982.

Directed by John Carpenter.

Starring Kurt Russell, Keith David, Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, and David Clennon.

Synopsis:

The crew of an American research facility in the Arctic is forced to battle with a shape-shifting alien life form that is able perfectly to mimic the appearance and characteristics of any living thing it comes into contact with, including various members of the crew themselves.

For horror fans, John Carpenter is a legend. From the pioneering slasher horror of Halloween to the cult hits of Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China, Carpenter has crafted an eclectic career of numerous cinematic cult classics (and let’s face it, more than few duds).

I heaped praise on his iconic Halloween in last year’s October Horrors, and this year I thought I’d continue the trend, so this time around we’re going to be spotlighting a whole »

Universal Pictures has reportedly pushed back ‘Fast and Furious 9’ an entire year from 2019 to 2020. The original release date for the next instalment in the super-popular franchise was set for April 19, 2019 Stateside, but will now debut on Friday, April 10, 2020.

‘Fast and Furious 9’ Moved Back a Year to 2020

4 October 2017 10:20 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Universal Pictures will move its ninth “Fast and Furious” movie back a year to April 10, 2020.

The studio did not disclose the reason for the shift, which was announced on Wednesday. “Fast and Furious 9” had been set for April 19, 2019. Both dates fall on Easter weekend.

Universal is freeing up the 2020 slot for the upcoming “Fast and Furious” by moving the animated “Trolls 2” forward by two months from April 10, 2020, to Feb. 14, 2020.

The eighth movie in the franchise, “The Fate of the Furious,” stunned earlier this year, grossing $1.2 billion worldwide. It was directed by F. Gary Gray and starred Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron.

The eight films in the franchise, launched in 2001, have collectively grossed more than $5 billion worldwide. “Furious 7,” which featured the late Paul Walker’s final appearance, is the top performer, having hauled $1.5 billion globally. »

Filmmaking Legends on How New York’s Era of Decay Sparked a Creative Revolution

4 October 2017 9:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In the 1970s and early ’80s, New York City embodied the revolution taking place in American cinema. It was brash and brutal, crude and powerful, sexy and grimey, and had a swagger that was unmistakable.

It was also a low point for the city. The Bronx was burning, crime was rising and city hall was broke. But even as respectable folks fled for the safety of the suburbs, New York became a canvas for talented filmmakers. From “The French Connection” to “Saturday Night Fever,” it posed as the setting of classic films that ushered in a new era of on-screen realism. It was the age of De Niro and Pacino, Scorsese and Lumet, talents who upended the sterile and factory-like approach to making movies that dominated the studio system.

It’s a revolution in filmmaking that’s over. Just as Times Square, the setting of “Taxi Driver,” has been replaced by a fantasyland for tourists, movies »

Vince Vaughn Reborn: Why the Actor Left Comedy Behind to Play a Badass in Brutal ‘Brawl in Cell Block 99’

3 October 2017 7:32 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Brawl in Cell Block 99” introduces the retooled and muscle-plated Vince Vaughn 2.0 headfirst, his shaved and tattooed skull stomping away from the camera like an asteroid hurtling toward earth. Action Vaughn 2.0 has the same movie star qualities as the hunk of “Swingers”: the barreling 6’5″ frame, the deep-set eyes that convinced Rihanna to call him the sexiest man alive.

But now that Vaughn is 47, his powerful torso has the leather-knotted look of a man who spent his life pounding railroad spikes—no vanity abs here—and the exhausted shadows on his face say he’s seen too much. And that’s not just because he and “Cell Block” writer-director S. Craig Zahler just wrapped their second film together, “Dragged Across Concrete,” just four days before flying to Austin for the movie’s American premiere at Fantastic Fest. (It opens theatrically on October 6.)

James Gunn says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t feature any resurrections

1 October 2017 11:18 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Warning. Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follow…

Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has developed a bit of a reputation for fake deaths, with the likes of Agent Coulson, Bucky Barnes, Pepper Potts, Loki and Nick Fury all thought to died at one point or another, before making their triumphant and (mostly) unscathed returns.

As a result, death has become pretty meaningless in the McU – although it seems the trend will stop with Yondu, as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has confirmed that he’s not a fan of resurrecting characters, and that he has no plans to cheapen Yondu’s sacrifice at the climax of Guardians Vol. 2.

“What bothers me is when a character is given a beautiful or powerful death in popular culture, that fulfills a character arc… and then is brought back in a sequel or comic or later episode through some usually ridiculous means because, »

James Gunn confirms that Glenn Close was cut from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

22 September 2017 1:38 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Despite being initially announced as reprising her role as Nova Prime for the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Glenn Close was absent from this year’s Vol. 2.

However filmmaker James Gunn has revealed during a fan Q&A that Close was originally set return as the head of the Nova Corps, and that “she had a cameo we didn’t use.”

Close’s Nova Prime is the second cameo to have been cut from the film after Nathan Fillion’s Simon Williams; sadly, neither of these appeared on the Blu-ray bonus features.

It is possible we’ll see the return of Glenn Close’s Nova Prime in Avengers: Infinity War, given that the Nova Corps are currently in possession of the Power Stone, which Thanos is going to need to complete his Infinity Gauntlet.

NBC Touts Megyn Kelly’s Softer Side in Bid to Launch New Morning Show

21 September 2017 5:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Megyn Kelly is best known as the hard-edged news anchor who wasn’t afraid to push back on conservative orthodoxy at Fox News Channel. Her new employer, NBC Universal, is trying to trot out a softer side.

As NBC prepares to launch a new morning show led by the much-scrutinized Kelly, it has unleashed a promotional salvo that speaks less about her news chops and instead tries to unveil other facets of her personality. One recent promo shows Kelly shaking hands with people in a supermarket and at a baseball stadium, and suggests her program, “Megyn Kelly Today,” is “not about us versus them. It’s about us for everyone.” She’s sharing space on an NBCU billboard in Times Square that depicts her offering up a hot cup of coffee. In a video posted on her new show’s Twitter feed, she reveals a fondness for “Overboard,” the 1987 comedy featuring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
