Netflix’s ‘A Christmas Prince’ Is Just the Start of the Streaming Giant’s Quest for Christmas Dominance

Netflix’s ‘A Christmas Prince’ Is Just the Start of the Streaming Giant’s Quest for Christmas Dominance
If you haven’t watched Netflix’s “A Christmas Prince” yet, then you’re missing out. It’s not that the movie is really all that good. It’s Ok, but we’ll get back to that in a second. What matters is that this fairy tale rom-com has helped Netflix begin its mission: to steal Christmas from cable networks.

While networks like Lifetime, Freeform, Up, and Ion have been cranking out some holiday rom-coms and programming, Hallmark is the undisputed leader of Christmas fare. The channel began its new original Christmas movies back in October, ruled over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, and is still making a splash with yuletide movies like “The Christmas Train” and “Switched for Christmas.”

Ranking 2017's Superhero Movies From Worst to Best

Ranking 2017's Superhero Movies From Worst to Best
If 2017 begged the question, Is seven superhero movies in the same year too many superhero movies? then 2018's answers is: Hold my beer. Next year, Marvel Studios will release three more movies (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp) as will Fox (The New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix); Sony has two Spider-Man universe movies (Venom and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, separate from their Marvel universe-set Spidey films); Warner Bros. and DC have only one scheduled (Aquaman) and even Disney has The Incredibles 2.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Before we're inundated with another year's worth of Avengers and mutants and superheroes who can talk to fish, let's take a look back at the year that was, ranking each of 2017's superhero offerings from worst to best.

7. Justice League Warner Bros. Pictures

There wasn't much to love about DC's hesitantly anticipated, not-too-long in the making team-up flick. Sure, Ezra Miller's [link

Escape from New York Reboot Script Gets John Carpenter's Blessing

Escape from New York Reboot Script Gets John Carpenter's Blessing
Everything old is new again. Escape from New York, one of John Carpenter's most classic movies, is in the process of being rebooted. Director Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn) is attached to direct. Carpenter has already signed off on the choice of director, but now we have some more good news from the franchise creator. According to screenwriter Neil Cross, Carpenter has also signed off on the script. Here's what he had to say about it in a recent interview.

"Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct and it's looking good and exciting. It was quite a challenging script, it's a challenging thing to reinvent. One of the most terrifying sentences I've ever heard in my life is 'we've given the script to John Carpenter'. I crawled around for three days thinking 'oh my god' but we got John Carpenter's seal of approval. He approved it and that's all I need.

The Escape From New York Reboot Has John Carpenter’s Blessing; Robert Rodriguez Still Attached To Direct

Snake Plissken is headed back to the silver screen.

Plans for a new interpretation of Escape From New York are afoot – it’s more of a prequel than an out-and-out remake, according to scribe Neil Cross (Luther) – and it seems legendary director John Carpenter has now given his blessing to the fledgling project.

Said to be the first chapter in a bona fide prequel trilogy – think of how Fox’s Planet of the Apes series received a new lease of life circa 2011 – Escape From New York will be helmed by Robert Rodriguez, and we’re now learning that Cross and Rodriguez’s story plan has received the seal of approval from Carpenter himself.

Here’s what Cross told Deadline, with a tip of the hat to Bloody Disgusting:

Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct and it’s looking good and exciting. It was quite a challenging script, it’s a challenging thing to reinvent.
