Actor Eugenio Derbez on His Overboard Reboot and Preparing for His First Grandchild
Eugenio Derbez is counting down the days until he becomes a grandfather for the first time. The Mexican comedian and producer, who is the star and co-producer of the upcoming comedy Overboard with Anna Faris and Eva Longoria, says he is ready to change diapers again. “I’m going to be there. I’m saving that day on my calendar,” Derbez, 55, says of the day his daughter, actress Aislinn Derbez, 31, gives birth. Although her delivery is set for early March, the baby — a girl — could come any day now so that family is on high alert and rushing to prepare.

‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ Deserves to Win the VFX Oscar
The time has come for the Academy to finally give the VFX Oscar to “War for the Planet of the Apes.” Twice denied for “Rise” and “Dawn,” Weta Digital’s remarkable work on Caesar (Andy Serkis) culminated with a Shakespearean finale. It’s undeniably the best of the field. And coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original “Planet of the Apes” would make it even sweeter. The Visual Effects Society obviously got the importance of the work, honoring the entire Caesar trilogy, now we’ll see if the Academy makes amends with “War.”

However, “Apes” has been denied before (with the acting branch, in particular, having a bias against Serkis and performance capture) and there is other noteworthy character animation to choose from, including the stunning CG Rachael from “Blade Runner 2049,” the creepy Snoke (Serkis) from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Ego and the de-aged Kurt Russell from

The Last Word on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

As per usual with Marvel and all movies in fact, I’m docking star points for stupid post-credits scenes; those still need to die, (And no, not watching them is not a legitimate option, when they can just, not have them! You don’t like a song you recorded but you put it on the album anyway, sorry, it’s part of the album now, and I judge as a whole; I don’t care if it’s a hidden track, it ain’t that hidden, you don’t want it considered, don’t put it there then!) That said, I enjoyed the first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, and I enjoyed even more ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘, not only ’cause it was just as funny, but also because, I’m gonna remember the plot and story of this one for awhile. If you want to go back to my original review,

Visual Effects Oscar Nominees on Their Top Digital Secrets

Visual Effects Oscar Nominees on Their Top Digital Secrets
This year’s visual-effects category displays so much expertise that each nominated film had at least one Oscar winner or nominee on its team.

John Nelson, who won for “Gladiator” and led the group behind “Blade Runner 2049,” says, “I was lucky that everybody wanted to work on this movie.”

Nelson adds, “It’s hard to live up to a classic, and in science fiction, visual effects rules are important because they define jeopardy. Jeopardy needs to be real or audiences won’t care.”

The movie depicts one possible future, Nelson notes, adding: “There were no traffic jams in the sky.”

There were, however, 17 distinctive environments that extended Roger Deakins’ cinematography by mixing models, miniatures and CG extensions. Nelson even used Google Earth to initially “fly through” locales that were later photographed.

His team also delivered tour-de-force compositing, merging two different actors to create an eerie third person — including creating a CG doppleganger of one of the

Another New Trailer for That 'Overboard' Remake Starring Anna Faris

"I have an idea... that is poetic in its justice." Pantelion Films has unveiled a official trailer for the comedy remake Overboard, updating the 1987 movie with Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell. The plot is about a spoiled, wealthy yacht owner who is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee. We featured the first trailer for this late last year, and the release is coming up in April. This new version of Overboard stars Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris, as well as Eva Longoria, John Hannah, Swoosie Kurtz, Josh Segarra, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Emily Maddison, and Mel Rodriguez. This looks amusing, a bit cheesy, with some revenge humor you may love or may hate. How many people are familiar with the original? Is it really necessary to remake this? Maybe it's just all about getting back at the rich man. Here's the new official trailer for Bob Fisher & Rob Greenberg's Overboard,

Earlier today, Marvel Studios kicked off their year-long 10th Anniversary celebration by unveiling an epic "class photo," that featured over 80 actors and filmmakers who helped shape the McU throughout its first 10 years. The photo didn't feature every main star and filmmaker though, and one of the most notable exceptions was Clark Gregg, who played Agent Phil Coulson in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers, before he was "killed" in that movie, only to be resurrected for the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is currently in its fifth season. Shortly after the class photo was unveiled, Clark Gregg took to social media, to reveal why he wasn't present for this epic photoshoot.

"So sad I couldn't make this shoot. Honored to be part of McU. I was proudly repping #agentsofSHIELD at #MadisonSquareGarden for @NY_Comic_Con @Marvel."

Marvel also released a behind-the-scenes video, revealing that the photo

Marvel Studios celebrates 10 year anniversary with class photo and video

Its been so successful that other film studios have sought to copy Marvel’s method, whether its Warner Bros. and DC, Paramount’s Transformers universe, the Godzilla/King Kong universe or Universal’s (albeit failed) Dark Universe monster series.

This year marks the 10th anniversary since the McU began back in 2008 with its very first film, Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the billionaire playboy Tony Stark and his heroic alter-ego Iron Man. Aside from being the anniversary, this year also marks the culmination of the McU’s first ten year’s with this summer’s release of Avengers: Infinity War, paying off several years of build up as the Avengers finally face the Mad Titan Thanos in his race to gain the Infinity Stones.

Lin Bolen Dead at 76

Lin Bolen Dead at 76
Lin Bolen, the first female VP of programming at a TV network and an influential force in daytime television fare, has died. She passed away on January 19 in a hospital in the San Fernando Valley, according to friend and former game-show host Jim MacKrell. She was 76.

Bolen worked for NBC in the 1970s and was responsible for commissioning the long-running game show Wheel of Fortune. She also is credited with bringing long-form narrative to soap operas, expanding them to hour-long formats.

It was long rumored that the ruthless Faye Dunaway character of Diana Christiansen in the 1976 satirical film Network was based on Bolen, something Bolen denied.

She was appointed VP of daytime programming at NBC in 1972, rising to become the VP of programming in Sept. 1975. NBC thrived under her leadership, becoming the No. 1 network in ratings.

She launched NBC soap opera How to Survive a Marriage in 1974, extended Another World

Meryl Streep in ‘Silkwood’: A look back at her fifth Oscar nomination, the competition and the outcome

Meryl Streep in ‘Silkwood’: A look back at her fifth Oscar nomination, the competition and the outcome
This article marks Part 5 of the 21-part Gold Derby series analyzing Meryl Streep at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at Meryl Streep’s nominations, the performances that competed with her, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the contenders.

In her first eight appearances on the big screen, Meryl Streep portrayed a diverse array of characters, all fictional. In 1983, she at last took on a real-life role, that of the plutonium technician-turned-nuclear safety whistleblower Karen Silkwood in “Silkwood” and was rewarded with an Academy Awards nomination for her efforts.

The project marked Streep’s first of four collaborations with filmmaker Mike Nichols and first of three with screenwriter Nora Ephron.

No one had more riding on the success of “Silkwood” than the picture’s director. After a string of acclaimed box office hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including “Who’s Afraid

Sundance 2018 Review: Summer Of ’84 is a Brutally Fun and Heartbreaking Blast from the Past

  • DailyDead
Like most genre fans, I fell head over heels for Turbo Kid, the first feature from the filmmaking trio Rkss (François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell) that transported viewers to a post-apocalyptic future where BMX bikes and friendship rule over the savageness of the brand new world. For their follow-up feature, Rkss heads back to the Reagan Era for their genre-defying Summer of ’84, a murder mystery/slasher/coming-of-age comedy hybrid that confidently explores the triumphs and tribulations of being a teenager, all while delivering a horrifying tale that conjures up some really fun scares along the way.

In the Summer of ’84, we meet 15-year-old Davey (Graham Verchere), who’s obsessed with mysteries and conspiracy theories. He begins to suspect that his neighbor, Officer Mackey (Rich Sommer), might actually be the Cape May Killer, a kidnapper and murderer targeting teenaged boys who live in the idyllic suburban neighborhoods of the area.
