The Thing's missing blow-up doll and other deleted scenes

Ryan Lambie Nov 9, 2017

Character deaths, screwdrivers and blow-up dolls: John Carpenter’s The Thing had some fasinating scenes cut before release...

Nb: The following contains spoilers for The Thing.

See related The Twilight Zone: reboot in the works with Jordan Peele 31 scary TV episodes that truly terrified us Top 50 terrifying TV characters

Critically mauled on release and largely overlooked in cinemas, John Carpenter’s The Thing has only grown in stature since 1982. What were once condemned as deficiencies - its graphic gore and violence, icy tone and low-key characterisation - are now generally regarded as positives. Its simple story about a group of scientists and misfits who encounter a shape-shifting alien in their Antarctic outpost, The Thing has aged remarkably well for a 35-year-old film: Rob Bottin’s practical effects are still extraordinarily imaginative, and fans still debate the finer points of its action today. Who sabotaged the fridge full of blood samples?

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are unlike any other couple in Hollywood.

The 71-year-old actress and her 66-year-old beau have been together for over 30 years, and their love is stronger than ever.

"He is a fascinating, brilliant, complex, mad man" Hawn expressed on NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today on Wednesday. "Sexy, sexual, which I think is very important, by the way. Often times, the grass can look really greener on the other side, but it never did to me."

The couple began dating while shooting their romantic WWII period drama Swing Shift in 1983 and have been together ever since -- yet never married.

Den of Thieves Trailer Has Gerard Butler Chasing Down 50 Cent
Stx Entertainment has released the first trailer and poster for Den of Thieves, a new crime thriller starring Gerard Butler as a legendary Los Angeles cop trying to take down a brazen crew of bank robbers. Along with this new trailer, Stx has also debuted quite the unique poster, with this team of cops lead by Gerard Butler's Nick Flanagan on one side, and the bank robbers lead by 50 Cent's character on the bottom, which can be reversed so the robbers side is on top and the cops are on the bottom. We'll have to wait until January to find out who truly comes out on top in this epic thriller.

A Los Angeles crime saga in the vein of Heat, Den of Thieves follows the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the La County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery

Former Actress Breaks Nda to Share Story of Being Physically Assaulted by Val Kilmer During ‘Doors’ Auditions
Former actress Caitlin O’Heaney has joined the chorus of women speaking out about their experiences being assaulted in the entertainment industry. The “Tales of the Gold Monkey” star spoke to BuzzFeed — breaking a decades-old settlement and nondisclosure agreement in order to do so — about an alleged assault at the hands of actor Val Kilmer during an early audition for the Oliver Stone docudrama film “The Doors.”

In 1989, O’Heaney was set to audition for the lead female role in the film about Jim Morrison and his sixties-era rock band, Morrison’s girlfriend Pamela Courson (the role later played by Meg Ryan in the film). Her audition pages included a scene in which Morrison and Pamela get into an argument, and while the scene involves the throwing of objects at each other, it does not include any hitting or slapping.

Blu-ray Review – The Thing (1982)

So with that in mind, does this movie really need to be sold to you? Does it need a plot analysis? Of course it doesn’t, because you already know what you’re in for when you put that shiny Blu-ray disc into your player

Thor: Ragnarok – director Taika Waititi interview

Rob Leane Oct 24, 2017

We chatted to Taika Waititi about Thor: Ragnarok, his inspirations for the movie, and his thoughts on Thor: The Dark World...

Spoilers for Thor: The Dark World lie ahead

Dressed as snappily as ever, Taika Waititi was leaning playfully up against a wall as I entered a swanky London hotel room to chat with him. The writer-director of Boy, Eagle Vs Shark, What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople then led me over to a little table, where he was halfway through drinking some sort of caffeine-based beverage from a martini glass. Pure class.

What followed was a snappy chinwag about Waititi’s new directorial project, Marvel StudiosThor: Ragnarok, which teams Chris Hemsworth’s godly goldilocks with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, to take on such villains as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster and Cate Blanchett’s Hela.

Only The Brave (2017) – Review

Here’s yet another “inspired by true events” film , just in time for the somber Fall season. Somber, the right word for this one. Unlike this weekend’s other non-fiction flicks, it’s set in the not too distant past, not decades ago, but in this decade, the 2010’s. It concerns a group of men who regularly risk their lives, and often make the ultimate sacrifice, in order to protect their fellow men. And it shines a light on the families that must stay behind and hope that all goes well. You may be thinking that’s it’s another those on the front line, our soldiers overseas sagas as in the films The Hurt Locker and American Sniper. Well, these heroes aren’t on foreign soil, though they are on the front line, one made of flame. And with their special clothing and gear ,they could be mistaken for soldiers.

'Only the Brave' Review: Josh Brolin & Co. Bring Heat, Humanity to Firefighter Drama

'Only the Brave' Review: Josh Brolin & Co. Bring Heat, Humanity to Firefighter Drama
If you've been to the movies any time over the last century, you're familiar with men like Eric Marsh. They're hard-ass guys, often stoic but capable of being sensitive and, in rare cases, prone to sentimentality. Their flaws and temper-flares are balanced out by their virtues: staunch professionalism, a salt-of-the-earth nobility, an almost stubborn loyalty to their men. The kind of dudes who treat their enemies – in this case, the massive forest fires that annually scorch acres of Arizona landscape – with something close to respect. ("What are you up to?
