14 July 2016 1:39 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Shares of indie digital distributor Cinedigm closed down 22% Thursday, before surging 53% in after-hours trading to $1.38 per share after the company reported results for the quarter and full year ended March 31.

For the three-month period, Cinedigm’s fiscal fourth quarter of 2016, the company posted revenue of $23.2 million (down 16% year over year) and a net loss of $6.15 million (versus a net loss of $11.1 million in year-earlier period). The results reflect its struggle to find traction with its over-the-top business strategy, and the company said it’s in the process of raising up to $11 million in additional debt for working capital.

Also Thursday, Cinedigm announced that investor Ron Chez is joining the company’s board as an independent director. Why You Shouldn’t Be Worried About Harry Styles Appearing In Dunkirk

29 May 2016 3:20 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week, Neil Calloway looks forward to the former boy band star appearing in Christopher Nolan’s next film…

This week the first set photos of Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming war film Dunkirk emerged, as well as the news that Tom Hardy had signed up to appear in the film. He joins a cast that includes Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles.

There was some dissent when Styles – better known as a member of One Direction than an actor – was announced as part of the cast. It’s an unusual move, but it’s exactly the sort of thing that Christopher Nolan does.

While Nolan obviously has a regular troupe of actors he uses in different films – Murphy, Hardy, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale have all appeared in his films more than once – he also makes some unexpected casting choices.

Nolan has a habit of resurrecting the »

Hiding under a mask of collected sanity, Alan is an aging actor with a serious serial killing hobby. His dark, reclusive world is blown open when a young, bubbly blonde moves in as a roommate. Her presence soon begins to further shake Alan’s already twisted psyche.

Deadly Famous is a story mainly told through Alan’s camera, which is ‘always rolling’. ‘The Condemned 2′ Review

8 February 2016 2:17 PM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Randy Orton, Eric Roberts, Wes Studi, Steven Michael Quezada, Bill Stinchcomb, Alex Knight, Dylan Kenin, Michael Sheets, Morse Bicknell, Mark Sivertsen | Written by Alan B. McElroy | Directed by Roel Reiné

Like The Marine franchise, which featured a new WWE superstar in the lead role in each consecutive film, The Condemned 2 sees Randy Orton (who also took over the lead from John Cena for 12 Rounds 2) stars as bounty hunter turned hunted man, Will Tanner; and – like Orton’s 12 Rounds 2 – this film pales in comparison to the original, abandoning everything that made that Running Man-esque action film so much fun.

The Condemned was one of WWE Studios earliest – and best received – movies, alongside The Marine and See No Evil. And whilst those two films have already had sequels, it’s taken almost ten years for someone to put together a sequel to the Stone Cold Steve Austin starring original. »

The Greatest Kidnapping Comedies of All-Time

4 February 2016 11:39 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

When asked about their inclination for kidnapping comedies, Joel Coen recently told Variety, “I’m not sure why. They are all very different. We should probably give that a rest.” He and Ethan Coen are responsible for three of the finest kidnapping comedies ever made, and are perhaps adding a fourth to their résumé this weekend.

The addition of comedy into a crime story is hardly a new prospect, but the kidnapping comedy is a wonderfully specific little nook in this often darkly funny cinematic world. The Coens practically own this genre — if you can call it a genre –having covered and re-covered it in such uniquely different ways.

Their fourth kidnapping comedy (although I doubt they would refer to any of these films as such), Hail, Caesar!, follows a Hollywood studio fixer (Josh Brolin) whose work life begins to unravel after the kidnapping of one of his biggest stars, »
