Movie Review – The Hatton Garden Job (2017)

13 April 2017 10:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Hatton Garden Job, 2017.

Directed by Ronnie Thompson

Starring Matthew Goode, Larry Lamb, Phil Daniels, David Calder, Joely Richardson, and Stephen Moyer.

Synopsis:

Over the Easter weekend in 2015, a small team of experienced burglars broke into the basement vaults at The Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company and stole millions of pounds in gold, cash and jewellery.  Based on true events.

Since a group of what the media gleefully described as “diamond geezers” raided the contents of up to 70 safety deposit boxes at The Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company over Easter 2015, the rush has been on to bring one of the most audacious crimes in British history to the big screen.  The first attempt, Hatton Garden The Heist, sank without trace last year.  Signature Entertainment no doubt had a twinkle in its corporate eye when it decided to release the second one, Ronnie Thompson’s The Hatton Garden Job, this Easter weekend. »

The Hatton Garden Job Review

Author: Guest

An attempt at a super cool, stylish crime caper, a la Guy Ritchie, The Hatton Garden Job falls flat on its face because, well, Guy Ritchie didn’t make it. Imagine a Vauxhall Nova with a very expensive body kit, big noisy exhaust and go faster stripes down the sides. To the driver it might feel and sound like they’re driving a car from The Fast and the Furious franchise but to everyone else, it just looks like a Vauxhall Nova with some money thrown at it. And thrown in all the wrong places.

Based on the real life events that took place in April 2015 – Ronnie Thompson is the first, and unlikely to be the last, director to bring this remarkable story to the silver screen, of when four elderly men pulled off the heist of the century – stealing over £200m worth of items.

HeyUGuys on set… We discuss the heist of the century with the cast & crew of The Hatton Garden Job

Author: Stefan Pape

When watching the news back in April 2015, to watch on as the events surrounding the Hatton Garden heist unravelled – where four elderly men pulled off one of the most ambitious robberies of all time – it was impossible to not envisage a movie. Lo and behold, barely two years on, and the first cinematic endeavour depicting this astonishing tale is set to hit our screens – and HeyUGuys were fortunate enough to be invited on to the film’s London set.

The set was notable for its commitment to authenticity, with real life equipment – such as a monumental drill – being used to reenact the break-in sequences, to not only enrich the experience for the actors, but for the viewers too. However director Ronnie Thompson told us that he’s blending realism with a more overtly cinematic approach, vying to find the humour within this ordeal, and play up to it accordingly. »

It seems the perfect time to be releasing Snowden on DVD and Blu-ray, we are constantly hearing about how hacking has influenced events in America. With Oliver Stone directing, it seems he is a good choice because of his Anarchic choice of films he directs, but has he delivered a movie fitting of such a massive historical event?

When Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) decides to go down the Nsa/CIA route of fighting to protect his country he proves to be very adept at creating systems to spy on individuals of interest. When he learns of the true scale of surveillance though, he finds himself turning whistle-blower to wake people up to how governments are attacking people’s privacy.

The Us government could be watching you right now. After the explosive revelations regarding the reach of the surveillance state, we all looked at that ominous pinhole webcam nestled atop our screens with a lot more suspicion. It’s a concern that is as relevant today as it ever was, the news still reporting on supposed wiretapping and hacking. Oliver Stone’s latest film Snowden manages to give an accessible account of mass surveillance and the moral questions behind it, whilst focusing on the personal story »

Espionage Thriller Red Sparrow Taps Ciarán Hinds As Russian Officer

Irish actor Ciarán Hinds, best known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is the latest addition to Red Sparrow, the espionage thriller in the works from Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games).

Hinds will play a high-ranking Russian official known as Zyugonov, who presides over much of the country’s intelligence agency. In light of today’s casting coup, he now joins an ensemble that includes Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeremy Irons, Joely Richardson and Jennifer Lawrence, marking the latter’s first collaboration with Francis Lawrence post-Panem. Indeed, the Oscar-winner has laid claim to a juicy role in Red Sparrow, after securing the part of Russian intelligence officer Dominika Egorova more than a year ago.

Under the cast-iron bureaucracy of Russian intelligence, Dominika is trained as a seductress, one considered indispensable in the mission of surveilling budding CIA officer Nathaniel Nash (Edgerton). It tees up »

Official Trailer for Matthew Goode’s The Hatton Garden Job breaks out

Author: Zehra Phelan

Back in 2015, Britain witnessed a robbery that could have been straight out of the movies. It was a throwback crime to the days of the Great Train Robbery of 1963, a crime which made the likes of Buster Edwards and Ronnie Biggs household names. It was only a matter of time before this new story was adapted for the big screen and The Hatton Garden Job is just that film.

The Hatton Garden Job is directed by Tower Block and I Am Soldier writer and director Ronnie Thompson, though looking at the new trailer anyone would think this has a touch of Guy Ritchie about it. The cast is none too shabby either; the gang of aging criminals is lead by Brian Reader who is played by Larry Lamb who may be most recognisable as Gavin’s Dad in Gavin and Stacey. He also had the evil role »

‘Emerald City’ Review: Embrace Tarsem’s Crazypants ‘Wizard of Oz’ Adaptation, and Reap The Rewards

6 January 2017 9:07 AM, PST | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

There have been a lot of takes on “The Wizard of Oz,” a lot of different points-of-view on the fantastical world originally created by the novels of L. Frank Baum in 1900. But NBC’s “Emerald City” is, to the best of my knowledge, the first one that transforms the flying monkeys of the classic 1939 musical adaptation into steampunk drones. They’re still recognizably flying monkeys, but to the residents of Oz, they’re just a random bit of technology, accepted as normal in a world that’s anything but.

There is something genuinely special about NBC’s “Emerald City,” premiering tonight — and not just because of its complicated journey to television, which included at least one total shutdown during the development phase before being reborn as a 10-episode series directed in its totality by Tarsem Singh, in a wide variety of exotic locations around the world.
