I'm a Polar Bear, Get Me Outta Here

20 April 2009 9:01 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

On the nonfiction side of cinema this week, you've got portraits of a famous banjo player, an infamous boxer and, er, nature, while the fiction side delves into a dystopic, mutant-infested future, a bedraggled small town in Korea and Bret Easton Ellis' decadent '80s Los Angeles.

"Earth"

The Mouse House launches its brand new nature documentary arm Disneynature with an Earth Day premiere of this year-in-the-life-of-our-planet feature. The bad news is that "Earth" recycles a lot of the footage from the BBC series "Planet Earth," which anyone who feels the least bit smug about their TV already owns. The good news is that "Planet Earth" is pretty sick, and seeing it on the big screen is bound to be an improvement over even the glossiest home HD experience.. Patrick Stewart narrated the U.

Four Clips from the Bret Easton Ellis Adaptation 'The Informers'

2 March 2009 3:32 PM, PST | From Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Gregor Jordan's adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's The Informers got savaged at Sundance as the four reviews I quoted couldn't find anything good to say about the film, but that isn't stopping Senator Entertainment from moving forward with the film as it currently stands to be released on April 24 in New York. Senator is also ramping up the online promotions as I have just added four new clips and the official trailer from the film featuring the likes of Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Amber Heard and the late Brad Renfro. I have included the Rourke and Renfro clip below and you can click here to tour the other three as well as the red band trailer. Just know, I have labeled the clip below "Clip #2" so when you watch the rest just know you have already watched "Clip #2".

Isaak Tried To Save Co-Star Renfro

25 February 2009 11:10 PM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Chris Isaak tried to coax troubled actor Brad Renfro into rehab shortly before the tortured star died from a drug overdose at the beginning of 2008.

The singer/actor teamed up with Renfro and Mickey Rourke on the set of forthcoming movie The Informers and could tell his young co-star was in trouble in the weeks and months leading up to his death.

Isaak tells WENN, "The sad part is Brad's gone. It was really horrible for me. Brad was a guitar player too and we were in Uruguay hanging out during filming and playing music.

"I'm a guy who's never done a drug in his life; I don't smoke or drink or anything, but Brad was partying really hard. I never put my two cents in but I pulled him aside and I said, 'Brad, you want to know what people say about you when you leave the room? They say you're a great guy, you're a great actor and the third thing they say is and when is he gonna be dead?'

"I said, 'You're in pain, man and I can see it in your face. If you don't get something to kill the pain besides booze or dope you're gonna be dead!' I said, 'Get some help, you're too nice a guy.'"

And Isaak still remembers the last time he saw Renfro, just two weeks before his death.

He recalls, "We were standing in the hotel lobby in Uruguay having this conversation and he put his arms around me and just hugged me. I never talk to people like.

"A couple of weeks later he was found dead. When it happened I felt so sad. There was a recent montage of all the people who died in the past year on TCM (Turner Classic Movies TV channel) and they had a shot of Brad Renfro. When I saw that, man, I just lost it. He was just this fresh-faced kid."

Renfro, 25, died from an accidental heroin overdose on 15 January, 2008 - a week before Heath Ledger passed away.

Restricted The Informers Trailer

20 February 2009 12:00 PM, PST | From WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news

Back in August, we posted a restricted trailer for the upcoming "The Informers" film. Unfortunately, we were immediately asked to take it down. But now, it's back and it's official. Click on the link below to see a ripped Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), a nude Amber Heard (Pineapple Express), and the last scenes of the late Brad Renfro (Apt Pupil). Bret Easton Ellis ("Less Than Zero" and "American Psycho") adapts his own acclaimed novel for the screen, returning to the Los Angeles of the early 1980's with a multi-strand narrative that deftly balances a vast array of characters who represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con). Connecting all his intertwining strands are the quintessential Ellis protagonists-a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night,

Rourke Still Reeling From Renfro Tragedy

10 February 2009 5:32 PM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Watching his next movie will be a bittersweet experience for Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke - because it features tragic star Brad Renfro's final scenes.Rourke is on the comeback trail after becoming the critics' favourite for his portrayal of a beat-up fighter in The Wrestler, and he'll follow up that film with The Informers later in 2009.

Though he cannot wait for fans to see his next movie, he admits he isn't looking forward to revisiting Renfro's last acting job before the 25 year old died from an accidental heroin overdose in January 2008.

Rourke says, "He died a couple weeks after filming... and I had all my scenes with him."

Like Heath Ledger, who died just a week after Renfro, Rourke is sure his co-star would have become a huge movie star if he had survived.

He adds, "He was wonderful to work with... He was a very talented young man."

Gregor Jordan's 'The Informers' is Getting Trashed at Sundance

20 January 2009 5:59 PM, PST | From Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Bad reviews don't typically deter me from wanting to see a film, but when I see negative chatter about a project to this extent it is hard to muster up any excitement as Gregor Jordan's adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis's The Informers is not receiving very kind reactions out of Sundance. Let's run down some of what people are saying. In a post headlined "Vomit Bag" Jeff Wells says: I just came out of it; everyone I've spoken to about it (i.e, those who saw it with me at the Yarrow) looks pained and deflated -- like they've got the flu. I know that I will never ever watch another sleazy, poison-virus flick about a bunch of empty, drugged-up Hollywood zombies smoking too much, drinking too much, doing too much blow and boring the living sh*t out of the audience. That's it -- I'm done. The script,

Well Cinematical is officially in Park City, Utah for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, and to kick-start our coverage we have this exclusive clip from The Informers, which is one of (if not the) largest premiere here this year. With an all star cast including Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Winona Ryder, Brad Renfro, Amber Heard and more -- The Informers, directed by Gregor Jordan, looks to spread its dirty, erotic stench all over Park City this week. The Informers trailer

14 January 2009 1:31 PM, PST | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

Author Bret Easton Ellis excels at a couple of things: excess, and the 80s (Less Than Zero, American Psycho). And both are front and center for The Informers, which Ellis adapted from his own novel. The movie comes from director Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly, Buffalo Soldiers) and features Billy Bob Thornton, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Jon Foster (Ben's kid bro), Amber Heard and the late Brad Renfro. Set in 1980s Los Angeles, The Informers is "a multi-strand narrative that...

The Informers Trailer Online

Missing American Psycho and can't wait for Lunar Park? Well hunger no more, because the next injection of Brett Easton Ellis' controversial and acerbic story-telling - The Informers - is making its way to the big screen, and the brand new trailer is online to prove it.Taking place during one week in 1983, in a flashback to Ellis' own youth, seven disparate tales of rich and infamous "morally-challenged" hedonists collide. Based on a book of short stories published in 1994, the film was shot in late 2007, prior to the death in January 2008 of one of its stars, Brad Renfro. The ensemble cast also features Mickey Rourke (pre-Wrestler comeback), Billy Bob Thornton, Winona Ryder, Kim Basinger, Jon Foster (looking a little bit Christian Bale), and Rhys Ifans. Also set to star was Superman Brandon Routh, who didn't make it to the final cut, when his vampire scenes were removed; and also Ashley Olsen,

New Images from the Sundance Drama, 'The Informers'

6 January 2009 11:01 AM, PST | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

One of the more anticipated movies coming up at Sundance this month is The Informers, an adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel, which of course, means this is going to be the hap-hap-happiest movie on Earth.

It's an ensemble piece that stars Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, the lovely Amber Heard, and the late Brad Renfro in what is unfortunately his last movie. The Informers is set against a backdrop of the go-go 1980s in Los Angeles. I'm betting there's more cocaine here than in Michael Irvin's car.

Here are some new photos from the film, snagged at Movie Gab.

R.I.P. 2008: A Rough Year For Hollywood

5 January 2009 3:56 PM, PST | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

For me, the only part of the Oscars worth watching every year is their tribute video, highlighting those in the movie industry that passed away in the previous year. It always puts a lump in my throat and often surprises me due to the passing of people I hadn’t heard about. And with the actors who were popular decades ago, it gives me a sense of melancholy nostalgia.

TCM (Turner Classic Movies) has put together their version of a tribute video which you can watch below, and it gave me the same feelings I just mentioned (I wasn’t aware they do one every year). It’s a beautiful video and very classy. They did miss a couple of people which I mention below.

I would suggest you watch the video before moving on to the list of names below it. It includes actors, directors, composers, screenwriters, animators, etc.
