Bruce Willis, The Rock in new “G.I. Joe” trailer

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: Audience members at Harry Knowles’ Butt-Numb-a-Thon in Austin over the weekend were treated to an early peek at the trailer for “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” a sequel to the summer blockbuster that brings The Rock and Bruce Willis into an already macho fold.

We thought we’d have to wait a while to share the clip with you. Turns out, we only had to wait a few days.

The new trailer is posted below. Directed by Jon M. Chu, “Retaliation” continues the story started in “Rise of Cobra” and seems to suggest that, for now, the bad guys are winning. Channing Tatum and RFay Park return to the ensemble as Captain Duke Hauser and Snake Eyes. Jonathan Pryce will star as the U.S. president, while lovely Adrianne Palicki joins the fun as Lady Jaye.

But we’re going to see Willis and The Rock, »

The 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Trailer – Boo-yah!

13 December 2011 11:18 AM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Surprise! An early Christmas present just arrived from your old pals at Paramount and Hasbro.

Though they didn't make it just for you, they hope you enjoy their trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. As you know, movie trailers are the perfect gift because they're always the right size — just long enough to hold all the good parts and just short enough to sit through without falling asleep.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation has a whole new crop of Joes and Janes, as well as a new director in Jon Chu. Apparently, everyone involved with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was smart enough to sign contracts that didn't commit them to more than one of these flicks.

Among those retaliating this time out are the one-man stunt team Dwayne Johnson in his guise as "The Rock," one-man stunt team Bruce Willis in his guise as old Bruce Willis, one-man stunt »

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" trailer features Bruce Willis, The Rock and a fistful of ninjas

13 December 2011 9:13 AM, PST | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

Big explosions. Ninja battles on cliff wall faces. Bruce Willis. What more could a person want from the upcoming "G.I. Joe: Retaliation"? Our answer: nothing.

Ever since casting for the sequel to 2009's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" started, it was clear this film was going to take a marked turn from its predecessor. There were few returning players, a new action star (Dwayne Johnson) who seemed to be taking front and center, and of course the involvement of Willis. We were a bit curious at what direction "Retaliation" was going to go in and how it was going to juggle all of these new elements, and the trailer answered that question for us pretty resoundingly. "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" just kills off the majority of its previous cast members.

Goodbye Sienna Miller, Rachel Nicols and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and hello Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and RZA. There are a few returning cast members, »

Looking back at Terry Gilliam's Brazil

13 December 2011 9:06 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Terry Gilliam’s dark sci-fi Brazil remains one of the director’s finest films to date. Andrew takes a look back at a classic future nightmare…

Brazil is one of my favourite films. It's so wrong. It's vibrant in its despondency. It shakes you by the shoulders and yells at you, “You are not alone! But... you are a bit doomed.”

It takes a mere two minutes to concoct a dazzlingly nightmarish retro-future, a steam powered bureaucracy revealed in huge pull-backs, a superb array of set-design and props, noirish-costumes, and well-cast actors. A family scene at Christmas is completely and utterly destroyed in a twisted parody of Santa's arrival, and you can't help but feel the sudden seizure of a man from his home feels that much more relevant now than it did in 1985.

All of this is coupled with the scenes of the bureaucracy that causes this mistake. By this point on initial viewing, »

G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation Trailer: 90% Dwayne Johnson, 5% Bruce Willis, 2% Channing Tatum, 100% Better Than the First

13 December 2011 7:20 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The first trailer has finally arrived for Paramount's G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, and while the movie is a sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, it could just as well be a reboot since the trailer makes it clear that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is taking over the franchise.

The opening moments of the trailer shows why most of the Rise of Cobra cast weren't brought back for Retaliation, and, after that, focuses on the attack exacted on G.I. Joe by the President of the United States (Jonathan Pryce), who, for those who remember the end of The Rise of Cobra, is actually Zartan (Arnold Vosloo). This leaves the new collection of Joes — Roadblock (Johnson), Flint (D.J. Cotrona), Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), Snake Eyes (Ray Park), and Bruce Willis as General Joe Colton — to, um, retaliate. Johnson is clearly the Joe-in-charge, and Willis has a more memorable »

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Trailer Strides In

12 December 2011 4:06 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

While no one was expecting Shakespeare, the first G.I. Joe movie back in 2009 was largely derided as a moronic action-fest with a couple of decent set pieces and a duff script. So the sequel has a lot to improve upon. Based on the first trailer for Retaliation, it seems they’ve decided to try to make things right by adding a healthy dollop of Team Bring It. Mr The Rock is all over this initial promo, which, while it also allows Joe veteran Channing Tatum and franchise newcomers Bruce Willis and Adrianne Palicki a few lines (plus clearly eeevil president Jonathan Pryce), is heavy on the Dwayne Johnson action. The plot this time around borrows a page from Mission: Impossible, with the Joes framed as an international menace and the White House under the control of Cobra. With most of the team wiped out thanks to the corrupt machinations »

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Review: Wrapping a Trilogy

14 November 2011 8:03 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Activision came into this holiday season with a few questions lingering over their collective heads. How do you top the staggering sales numbers of last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops? How do you handle the very-public divorce and fall out with Infinity Ward's masterminds, President Jason West and co-founder Vince Zampella? And how can the acclaimed publisher not fall into the "Tony Hawk/Guitar Hero/Rock Band" fatigue that occurs when a game sequel is released each and every year?

The answer, luckily, is for Activision to just keep on keeping on. Tony Hawk be damned.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the latest incarnation of the mega-millions-selling franchise, and the third (obviously) and last (not so obvious... more later) chapter of the Modern Warfare saga.

Picking up mere moments after the end of 2009s Modern Warfare 2, MW3 continues the story of World War III, told in a very realistic and believable scenario. »

Sony Pictures Classics Comes Down with Hysteria Starring Maggie Gyllenhaal

10 November 2011 5:01 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

This one’s for the ladies: Hysteria, the Tanya Wexler-directed picture starring Oscar-nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal, has sold its Us and South African rights to Sony Pictures Classics. The romantic comedy is based on the historically (and hysterically) accurate tale of Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville’s invention of the first vibrator, all in the name of medical science. The heart of the film is about the realization that everyone is in control of their own happiness. Written by Stephen Dyer and Jonah Lisa Dyer, and produced by the all-female trio of Sarah Curtis, Judy Cairo and Tracey Becker, Hysteria also stars Hugh Dancy, Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones. Hit the jump for more on Hysteria. Our own Matt Goldberg reviewed Hysteria at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, although I doubt his comment of “inarguably the best movie you’ll see all year featuring Jonathan Pryce fingerblasting »

Activision An image from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

There’s something obnoxious and off-putting about the string of superlatives Activision uses to hype Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Worse, the publisher even used Oversized, Bold-faced All Caps on the game box to hammer home what a juggernaut it thinks it has produced.

Joaquin Phoenix Won't Help Finish River Phoenix's Last Film

23 October 2011 4:12 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

A few days ago, director George Sluizer (The Vanishing) revealed that he will finish "Dark Blood," the 1993 drama that actor River Phoenix (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Stand By Me) was shooting when he died of a drug overdose. The helmer said that he has been speaking with Phoenix's brother Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator) to provide the voice of River in order to complete the film and have it in theaters by next year. Unfortunately Joaquin is denying these talks and is refusing to participate in the project. "Despite George Sluizer's claim that he has been communicating with River Phoenix's family in regard to releasing River's last film, Joaquin Phoenix and his family have not been in communication with the director nor will they participate in any way," a rep for Joaquin said. Finishing River Phoenix's last movie "Dark Blood" won't include family participation

21 October 2011 9:09 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

Apparently the Phoenix family aren't as behind Dutch director George Sluizer's planned completion and release of River Phoenix's unfinished last film "Dark Blood" as he might have people believe. Though Sluizer said that he had been in contact with the family and planned to ask Joaquin Phoenix to do a voice-over to help tie together the film, Deadline received a statement from a spokesperson for the Phoenix's that says otherwise.

"Despite George Sluizer's claim that he has been communicating with River Phoenix's family in regard to releasing River's last film, Joaquin Phoenix and his family have not been in communication with the director nor will they participate in any way."

This certainly is a hiccup in Sluizer's plan to bring to project to the big screen. It is also reported that he has been having legal troubles releasing the film, which a Dutch production company is helping him with. »
