It’s that time of year again.
Not November, when (“coincidentally” during my finals week), seemingly All of the good games come out, but May, when developers begin teasing us about the juicy rewards they have for us gamers coming in Autumn.
Normally, this warms my heart as I develop a craving for trailers and leaks like a rabid fanatic, but aside from my hype for the PS4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Infamous: Second Son, etc., the one persistent ritual every year is my eventual purchase of the latest Call of Duty title – my clan members and I consistently complain about flaws and quirks in every title, yet every fall we’re drunkenly online, pub-stomping the unfortunate casual players who have the misfortune to be in our lobby.
Now, as a Call of Duty player, I believe I can speak for a significant amount of our numbers when we say »

Most directors have an identifiable style consistent with their approach and perspective. Each week Cinelinx will chose one director for an in-depth examination of the “signatures” that they leave behind in their work. This week, we examine the trademark style and calling signs of Terry Gilliam.
No matter his success as director or writer, Terry Gilliam will always be remembered for his contribution to Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Despite his name, Gilliam was the only American member of the posse. Although he wasn’t featured as heavily as the rest of the cast, Gilliam found his niche as the show’s animator. Those silly and very British newspaper/cardboard style animations that gave the show its unique style were created and organized by Gilliam. It’s only fitting then that he used his artistic talents after his time on the TV show to become a full-fledged movie director.

In the first of a regular series, we share a few of the worthy, geek-friendly crowdfunding projects we've stumbled on this week...
Getting any creative project off the ground is a difficult proposition in the current financial climate, particularly if that project happens to be something potentially expensive like movie making or game development.
Thankfully, Kickstarter - and the assorted other crowdfunding services - has created something of a revolution for all kinds of artists and filmmakers, with the funding of generous internet dwellers used to fund everything from whimsical bus shelters to movies to theatrical productions to card games. It's a remarkable platform for new talent; the only problem being that, with so many projects appearing on the Kickstarter site every week, it's sometimes difficult to keep track of them all.
So from this week onwards, we plan to bring you a regular »

From Meryl Streep's Iron Lady to Spitting Image and the Spice Girls, Observer writers and critics pick the films, books, art, music and TV that show Thatcher's lasting influence
Art, chosen by Laura Cumming
Treatment Room (1983)
In Richard Hamilton's installation, Thatcher administered her own harsh medicine from a video above the operating table with the viewer as helpless patient: a case of kill or cure.
Taking Stock (1984)
Hans Haacke portrayed Thatcher enthroned, nose in the air like a gun-dog, surrounded by images of Queen Victoria, the Saatchi brothers and, ominously, Pandora. Caused national furore.
In the Sleep of Reason (1982)
Mark Wallinger edited Thatcher's 1982 Falklands speech from blink to blink, fading to black in between, emphasising her solipsistic tendency to close her eyes when speaking as if nobody else existed.
