Clash Of The Titans: Photo Of Gemma Arterton As Io

15 June 2009 4:55 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

One movie I’m definitely looking forward to next year is the remake of 1981 classic, Clash of the Titans. The film is looking great so far from the behind-the-scenes set pictures we’ve seen and the awesome image of Sam Worthington as Perseus. Combined with a good director and a very talented cast, I have high hopes for this movie.

Today, we have another set photo for the movie – this time, of Gemma Arterton in costume on set as Princess Io. The character is a demi-goddess who Perseus apparently has a keen eye for and she’s a new addition to the story, not having appeared in the original film.

Joining Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton in the cast of Clash of the Titans are Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Alexa Davalos, Danny Huston, Pete Postlethwaite and Jason Flemyng among many others.

Here is the first image of Gemma Arterton as

In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Sam Worthington Skirts It Up on ‘Clash of the Titans’ Set

18 May 2009 1:17 PM, PDT | From FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news

Our brothers in arms over at Crave Online have scored a few photos from the set of the Louis Leterrier directed epic Clash of the Titans today, giving us our first look at Terminator Salvation star Sam Worthington in a skirt. In the remake of the 1981 film from director Desmond Davis, Worthington will play Perseus, the story's main character who goes after Medusa and takes on a giant sea beast. In the scene being filmed in these photos though, he only appears to be tumbling with a currently unknown character played by Pete Postlethwaite. More to come on story details later. For more, click on over to Crave and check them out. Side note: is it just me, or is it continually funny to see pictures from sets of period pieces -- seeing a woman with a clipboard and a dude with a baseball cap standing next to costumed actors dressed for another time makes me giggle

First Look: Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash of the Titans

18 May 2009 12:28 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Now this is something we've been waiting for! CraveOnline has scored the first few paparazzi spy shots of Sam Worthington shooting on the set of Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans. Worthington plays the lead character Perseus, who embarks on a dangerous mission to defeat Hades, the vengeful god of the underworld. A few weeks ago some boring photos of a set under construction popped up, but these are the first photos we've seen of any actor in costume. And yes, I realize Worthington is wearing a tunic, but it's actually slightly longer than the one Harry Hamlin wore as Perseus in the original Clash of the Titans. Click either of the photos above to see a few more that we didn't feature here. There's also another photo of British actor Pete Postlethwaite with a gnarly beard on the same set over at CraveOnline. Attenborough Dismisses Health Fears

15 May 2009 5:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Lord Richard Attenborough has downplayed reports his health is fading - insisting he has no plans to quit acting for good.

The 85-year-old Oscar winner remains in hospital in London five months after a fall at his London home left him in a coma.

The veteran star is now on the road to recovery, but was recently forced to pull out of his role in historical movie Ironclad until his health improves.

But Attenborough is adamant his film career is far from over - and he will be back on the big screen as soon as he feels well enough.

He says in a statement, "I wish to make it clear that I am very much alive and kicking. To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports regarding the demise of my career have been greatly exaggerated. It remains my intention to take up offers."

Attenborough was due to tackle his 74th film role this summer, alongside Robert Carlyle, James Purefoy and Pete Postlethwaite.

Sick Attenborough Quits Film

13 May 2009 5:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Veteran actor Lord Richard Attenborough has sparked fresh fears for his health after pulling out of his role in new movie Ironclad and putting his film career on hold.

The 85-year-old Oscar winner was admitted to St George's Hospital in Tooting, West London on 18 December after he fell and slipped into a coma.

He regained consciousness and was kept under observation by concerned doctors throughout the Christmas period.

Five months on, Attenborough is still being treated at a South London medical facility, and a spokesman for the actor admits he hasn't regained his health and won't be taking on any more film roles until he has fully recovered.

Attenborough's manager, Derek Webster, says, "He's just not well enough. It is immensely frustrating for him but I can't see him taking on any more roles in the foreseeable future. He has no other projects coming up and no plans to take on any. He's still in the rehabilitation centre as an inpatient. We hope he will be out soon, but we can't say when."

SFIFF52 Day 12: The Age of Stupid

The Age of Stupid

England, 2008, 89 minutes

Director: Franny Armstrong

Recently, because of the gravity of the situation, there’s been a wave of “guilt trip” films about the environment. It’s no longer contained to just documentaries, though docs tend to be more direct in said guilt-tripping. The Age of Stupid, alas, takes it to another level, resorting to insults now. It’s angry and preachy as all get-out, though that should be apparent from the title. Not everybody is willing to give 90 minutes of their time to being called stupid repeatedly by a movie, but given the mounting evidence spelling out our doom, maybe it is necessary to be so blunt.

The premise of the film is that it’s a science-fiction documentary. It opens with a montage of Earth’s devastation in 2055. The planet’s resources are depleted, its inhabitants are near extinction, and monuments are burning in that Jerry Bruckheimer fashion.

Five: Rutger Hauer Films Where He Is Not An Android

12 April 2009 5:36 PM, PDT | From Latemag.com/film | See recent LateFilmFull news

Sin City and Batman Begins in 2005 saw the mighty Rutger Hauer return to roles in high profile genre films. He has been working solidly of course, but these day's one might forget just what a genre film powerhouse the Dutchman was, during a period spanning about 15 years, from the early 80's to the mid nineties. Of course Hauer’s quintessential role is that of Roy Batty, the replicant on the run who races against time to find his creator. While avoiding the Blade Runner Rick Deckard played by Harrison Ford. Probably his second most recognizable role is the powerhouse performance as the uber menacing Hitch Hiker John Ryder in the 1986 movie The Hitcher. "John Ryder" as played by Hauer is probably my favorite on screen psycho, as Hauer relies almost entirely on performance to menace both the viewer and his onscreen victim Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) in a movie

trailer break: ‘The Age of Stupid’

31 March 2009 8:39 AM, PDT | From www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news

I love the idea of this film, as the official site describes it: Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance? But I’m not sure if this trailer adequately conveys how the film is going to accomplish this, at least in any way that isn’t preaching to the choir. Not that that’s not often a problem with documentaries these days, which isn’t an issue with the films themselves but with the fact that, in the absence of wide, mainstream audiences for them, they’re inevitably reaching viewers already interested in their perspectives. Like, there’s the bit in the trailer about the one-rupee airfare, which could be seen as a good thing for a lot of people. I’m guessing that the

Tony Scott Is Unstoppable

29 March 2009 6:16 PM, PDT | From EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news

Tony Scott has signed on to direct a train-set thriller called Unstoppable, which sounds a little bit like Hollywood has decided to remake Empire’s Touching Cloth… before the original is even made! The movie will concern an engineer and a conductor on an unmanned train (erm, apart from the two of them, of course) who must join forces to stop their runaway vehicle – which has been thoughtfully stocked to the brim with toxic chemicals – from crashing and burning.Hmm… that’s not to be confused, of course, with Touching Cloth, in which Pete Postlethwaite would play ‘Lightning’ Rod Halliwell, a conductor on the 8.28 Transpennine Express from York to Liverpool who must stop a group of terrorists, all while he’s busting for the toilet. Of course, there the toxic chemicals would be confined to Postlethwaite’s posterior, but the similarities, we’re sure you’ll agree, are striking. No matter.

Attenborough Recovering Well For Film Role

24 March 2009 12:10 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Veteran actor Lord Richard Attenborough has vowed to regain his health in time to fulfil his summer obligations to new film Ironclad.

The 85-year-old Oscar winner was admitted to St George's Hospital in Tooting, West London on 18 December after he fell and slipped into a coma.

He regained consciousness and was kept under observation by concerned doctors throughout the Christmas period.

Three months after the accident, Attenborough is still being treated at the South London medical facility, but was seen out in public for the first time since the accident this week (begs23Mar09), when he visited a specialist neurological clinic.

A spokesperson for the star insists he is making steady progress and is determined to be discharged in time to tackle his 74th film role this summer in historical movie Ironclad, alongside Robert Carlyle, James Purefoy and Pete Postlethwaite.

The representative says, "He remains committed to the project. He has been growing stronger by the day. He is confident he will be well enough by the summer. He's doing well and he will be having rehabilitation when he's out."

Postlethwaite To Hand Back Honour If Power Plant Goes Ahead

16 March 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Veteran British actor Pete Postlethwaite has threatened to hand back the OBE he was awarded by Queen Elizabeth II if the U.K. government give the green light to build a new coal power station.

The Oscar-nominated star is opposed to the British government's plans to allow energy giant E.On to create a new coal-powered plant in Kingsnorth, southern England.

And the star used the London premiere of his latest movie, climate change documentary The Age of Stupid, to announce his plans to turn his back on the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honour he received from the British monarch in 2004 - if the power plant gets the go ahead.

He told reporters, "We tried to stop Tony Blair going to war in Iraq. But this time we're not having it.

"I can't be an officer of the realm if Kingsnorth goes ahead."

Scenes We Love: In the Name of the Father

8 March 2009 10:33 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

There are those moments in a darkened theater that make you feel like you can take on the world. For me, those moments are why I go to the movies, to be so wrapped up in the story that I'm not just a spectator anymore, I'm a participant; and the 1993 true life political drama, In the Name of the Father, has one of the moments.

Jim Sheridan's film about a group of young Irish that were wrongfully convicted of an Ira bombing, is a brilliant film for plenty of reasons (not the least of which are the acting talents of Daniel Day Lewis, Pete Postlethwaite, and Emma Thompson) but what amazes me is that by the time the film is nearing an end, your nerves are raw, and your sense of righteous indignation reaches a fever-pitch -- and that's when Thompson gets to shine. In one short scene, she

Ye Olde Ironclad In The Works

5 February 2009 11:01 PM, PST | From EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news

Action thriller Ironclad is shaping up to be a proper medieval free-for-all, with news that sword-and-sandal veteran James Purefoy has joined the ContentFilm project.Set in England after the signing of the Magna Carta, Ironclad tells story of a determined group of Knights Templars who defend Rochester Castle from the devious King John. The Templars - a kind of medieval A-Team charged with protecting pilgrims throughout Europe - will be led by Purefoy, who mobilises the group against Paul Giamatti's King John.Purefoy, of course, knows his way around a suit of armour, having played Mark Anthony in the BBC miniseries Rome and The Black Prince in A Knight's Tale. He joins Robert Carlyle, Bob Hoskins, William Moseley, Pete Postlethwaite and Lord Richard Attenborough, who's eschewing the sword-wielding to play Archbishop Langton. It's certainly an interesting sounding cast, if a little short on damsels (there are rumours of Megan Fox
