Since a new film law took effect in January, Colombia has emerged as the go-to location for a growing number of international filmmakers.
Also helping lift production: the country has turned the page on the notorious drug violence of its past. According to the latest U.S. State Dept. travel warning, “security in Colombia has improved significantly in recent years.”
Per the new film law, dubbed Law 1556, foreign shoots of feature films and TV movies investing over $500,000 in Colombia can avail themselves of cash rebates of 40% on local qualified film spend and 20% cash rebates on lodging, catering and transportation expenses.
The law creates a $14 million film fund and complements the 2003 film law, which offered subsidies and tax savings of up to 41.23% to resident producers. The old law led to a surge in local production and resulted in improved crew competence and depth.
It also contributed to a growing shooting and production services infrastructure. »

It was the week of horrible pantsuits...in case you didn't get the memo."Once Upon a Time" star Jennifer Morrison's pantsuit didn't live happily ever after. She looked like Cinderella's glass slipper, that should have been lost way long ago.Another bad look of the week was Catt Sadler. Her two-piece ensemble resembled really cheap bedding, in a really cheap motel. We wish we could stop the ugly fashion train there, but then Jada Pinkett Smith hit the red carpet looking like she came straight out of "Austin Powers: Goldmember." Although Nicole Kidman usually keeps it classy, she stepped out wearing a dress that reminded us of a coloring book. And Rooney Mara and Jamie King both sported disappointing outfits this week, as well. Click "Launch Gallery" above to see more worst dressed stars of the week! Read more »

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's son has no plans to try to become an emancipated minor. Jaden Smith has laughed off recent comments made by Will, who claimed he had reluctantly accepted that their son wanted to be freed from their legal guardianship so he could move into his own house on his 15th birthday in July. In a joint interview with his father on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' on Wednesday (15.04.13), the 'After Earth' star said: 'See, here's the thing that you need to understand: I'm not going anywhere. 'The thing that people don't get is everything at this house is free! So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I'm going to be there »

Jaden Smith offered up a completely logical reason why he would never want to be emancipated from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. "See, here's the thing. I'm not going anywhere. The thing that people don't get is everything at this house is free," the 14-year-old explained during an appearance on Wednesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the wake of a false report by The Sun. "I can get anything and everything at his house, so I'm going to be there for 20, 30 years. He says as soon as I have a movie that's bigger than one of his movies, I can get my own house." As for how such a rumor got started in the first place? "I think I made a joke in Tokyo," Will said, »

Jaden Smith is not getting emancipated. On today's “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the young actor set the record straight about whether he is seeking emancipation from parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Earlier this week, The Sun had quoted Will Smith as saying his son asked for the legal separation for his 15th birthday on July 8. But Jaden Smith told DeGeneres, “I'm not going anywhere. The thing that people don't get is everything at this house is free! So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I'm going to be there 20, 30 more years." Father and son are starring together in the sci-fi action movie “After Earth,” which hits theaters May 31. And neither expects to be parted from the other anytime soon. “I think I made a joke in Tokyo," Will Smith explained of his quotes. "I mean… my baby boy, he's never leaving me, ever. No emancipation for the Smith kids. »

Jaden Smith, who starred for his superstar father in "The Karate Kid" remake and stars alongside him in this month's potential franchise-starter "After Earth," is now seeking emancipation, apparently. According to the always-reliable (snort) UK tabloid The Sun (via the Daily Beast), Jaden wants to be emancipated from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith when the young actor turns 15 on July 8.
"I know if we can do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants his own place, like ooh," Will Smith said. Will went on to tell the paper that he knows how it feels (he is, after all, the author of the immortal teen rebellion anthem "Parents Just Don't Understand"), although he and Jada aren't exactly strict disciplinarians.
Jaden is something of an entrepreneur, just like his father, having created a lifestyle/clothing like called Msftsrep (which we assume translates from tween to English as »

A High School Musical star gets quite a scare, America Ferrara finishes college…after 10 years, and a special (animal) guest may pop up tonight on New Girl.
Reports out of the UK —which, we must say, can rarely be trusted— claim that Will and Jada Smith‘s eldest child, son Jaden, wants to be emancipated from his parents. He’s only 15, but that’s clearly old enough to have learned that parents just don’t understand. [Nydn] Police have opened an investigation into a fan who tweeted Disney star Ashley Tisdale more than 18,000 times. The messages, some of which expressed undying love, appeared to come from a male Twitter follower. The fan allegedly also showed up at Tisdale’s home. [TMZ] When you’re busy starring in Emmy-winning series and Hollywood films, it’s hard to keep your nose in the books. But that didn’t deter Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera, »

Contrary to what you might have read in the tabloids, Jaden Smith is still chillin' out, maxin' and relaxin' all cool with his parents. The Sun claimed that Jaden wanted to be emancipated from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith for his 15th birthday (July 8) so he could "have his own place." Fortunately, this is 100 percent false; in other words, Jaden is still a minor under mom and dad's guardianship. But, to be fair, Will and Jada are pretty cool parents. The Men In Black 3 star told Metro last month he and Jada "don't do punishment." Instead, the A-list couple strives to "give them as much control over their lives as possible." Will Smith has revealed that his "After Earth" co-star and son Jaden has asked to be legally emancipated for his 15th birthday. Although this seems like it would be a difficult gift to put a bow on, Smith seems Ok with the idea -– or at least cool enough to laugh it off. Smith told The Sun, "[Jaden] says, 'Dad, I want to be emancipated.' I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh…" Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, are known for their laid-back approach to parenting. As Smith notes, "That's the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand." Plenty of folks have tisk-tisk'd over the Smith kids and their choices, like Willow's punky style, but the method seems to be working well for the family. »

Remember how yesterday we learned from Jada Pinkett Smith that little 12-year-old Willow is currently taking a break from the entertainment industry but will soon "make a comeback"? That was weird, huh? Like, the girl is 12, she had one cute, catchy song about whipping her hair back and forth. No one is really that concerned about her whereabouts right now. Today, however, Will Smith is taking over as the Weirdest Smith Parent, and he's doing so by saying that his son, 14-year-old Jaden, would like to be emancipated. ... No, really:"He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh. That’s the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand."Is there a single person on the whole entire »

It says "confused" up there, and not other things like "excited" or "some sleep" or even "prepared," because who even knew that Willow Smith, at the ripe old age of 12, went off in some parallel universe of non-fame to exist as a normal pre-teen? Nobody, that's right, and maybe that's because her parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, respectively, are famous enough for all five members of the family. In a recent interview, Jada was asked about her daughter, Willow, and where she's been since "Whip My Hair." This? Well, this was her response: "She was supposed to star in "Annie" and Willow has decided not to. ... She decided that she wants to be 12 and says right now she's really concentrating on music skills. She's taking piano lessons, taking her singing lessons every day and writing. She's really just developing herself. ... She's taking her time to develop her skills, »

Will Smith doesn't punish his children. The 44-year-old actor and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are eager to teach their two kids, Jaden, 14, and Willow, 12, the rights and wrongs of life by allowing them to make their own mistakes instead of using traditional disciplines such as sending them to their room and taking away their luxuries for the day. He said: 'We generally don't believe in punishment. From the time Jaden was five or six we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life.' New York — Jada Pinkett Smith may have started as an actress, but these days her list of jobs includes author, singer-songwriter, philanthropist, successful businesswoman – and, of course, wife and mother.
With husband Will Smith, she started Overbrook Entertainment, which has produced many of Smith's films, as well as the upcoming remake of "Annie." But Pinkett Smith's more recent focus has been the documentary "Free Angela Davis and Other Political Prisoners," which marks the 40th anniversary of the acquittal of the 1970s political activist who once on the FBI's Most Wanted list.
Davis was removed from her teaching job at UCLA in 1969 because she was a member of the Communist Party. A year later, she was charged with murder and kidnapping in a shootout in front of the Marin County, Calif., courthouse, then acquitted by an all-white jury.
