Morning Meme: Molly Ringwald To Head L.A. Pride, Daniel Radcliffe Wants To Play Flash, and Trevor Boris Discusses Love On Grindr On "Conan"

25 May 2012 4:42 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

First up, clear your schedules, because snicks is liveblogging Days of Our Lives today, and from what I hear around the newsroom, he's liveblogging all next week (including Memorial Day).

Molly Ringwald may be getting pushback on whether Ducky was gay, but she can be sure she's surrounded by a bunch of gays when she's the Grand Marshall of L.A. Pride.

One Million Moms is boycotting both Marvel and DC over their gay characters, which I'm certain they're grateful for.  Evidently though, it's not gay if there's a robot penis involved.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is calling out the National Organization for Marriage for their tendency to denounce extremist groups for their language while still linking out to their anti-gay screeds and discredited studies. I bet Brian Brown would love the martyr status that would come with being designated a hate group.

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Takes Tony Perkins To The Woodshed: ‘Why Do Homosexuals Bother You So Much?’

24 May 2012 11:55 AM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

Tony Perkins has been particularly loud in recent days as a voice against equal rights of marriage for same-sex couples, arguing that one minority in the society cannot define religious sacraments that, for some reason, are also governmental institutions "for the rest of us." He took his crusade to CNN today with anchor Brooke Baldwin, who flummoxed the Family Research Council leader with simple questions like "have you ever been to the home of a same-sex couple?" »

Listen: Clay Aiken Discusses 'Celebrity Apprentice' Finale, North Carolina's Amendment One, And More

19 May 2012 6:45 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

A few days before his face-off with Arsenio Hall on the finale of Donald Trump’s “The Celebrity Apprentice” (Sunday night on NBC), Clay Aiken was confident and comfortable.

“I hope I’ll win,” said the openly gay singer and actor who shot to stardom as a contestant and first runner up on “American Idol” almost ten years ago. “We have different styles. [Arsenio Hall is] a little more laid back. I’m a little more hands-on. I think the effects of my efforts were superior. I think we’ll see on Sunday when Mr. Trump makes his decision.”

Aiken also weighed in on his new-found role as a gay activist, taking on North Carolina’s antigay Amendment One and appearing on CBS’ “Face the Nation” opposite the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins last week, an experience he laughingly still can’t believe happened.

“Wasn’t that crazy?” he asked, beaming with a smile, »

Homosexuality Is Not A Choice…And Even If It Were, Who Cares?

18 May 2012 12:23 PM, PDT | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

For the last two weeks, much of the media focus has been on same-sex marriage, especially since President Obama completed his so-called "evolution" on the issue. This led to some pretty heated debates on cable news pitting pro-gay marriage pundits against conservative Christian leaders. And whether it was Rep. Barney Frank versus Tony Perkins, or Piers Morgan versus Bill Donohue, the socially conservative pundit's point usually boiled down to this: We cannot take seriously any gay rights issues because homosexuality is a choice. »

5 Things You Might Not Know About David Lean's 'Lawrence Of Arabia'

18 May 2012 12:12 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Is there a greater film than "Lawrence of Arabia?" Perhaps. There are certainly few longer ones, or few that are more epic and sweeping in their scope (thanks to the timeless Panavision 70 photography by Freddie Young). But even if the film isn't your absolute favorite, it is the number one of many, including Steven Spielberg, who credits the picture with making him want to be a filmmaker.

David Lean's tale of T.E. Lawrence's adventures in Arabia in World War I is fifty years old this year, and ahead of a brand-spanking-new Blu-ray release next month, a glorious new 4K restoration of the film is screening at Cannes tomorrow night. To mark the occasion, as well as the anniversary of the death of Lawrence himself, who died 77 years ago tomorrow, we've assembled five things you might not know about Lean's unassailable classic.

Scarlett Johansson Set Photo from Hitchcock

17 May 2012 8:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Yahoo! Movies points us to the first set photo of Scarlett Johansson on the set of Hitchcock, the new movie from Anvil! The Story of Anvil director Sacha Gervasi that follows the famous director during the making of his horror classic, Psycho.

The film was actually once titled Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, but it's since been truncated down to the director's last name. It's got an amazing cast, which includes Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock, Helen Mirren as his wife, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, Ralph Macchio as Joe Stefano, James D'Arcy as Anthony Perkins, and of course, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, the actress who starred in one of the most famous scenes in movie history: the shower scene.

I'm intrigued by this project - not just because Hopkins looks shocking like Hitchcock, but because I really enjoyed Gervasi's documentary about an 80s hair metal band and »

'Maniac' trailer: Elijah Wood goes a little mad sometimes

17 May 2012 7:49 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Elijah Wood seems like one of the gentlest, kindest, most ethereal actors in movies, so the notion of him playing a murderous serial killer is initially difficult to fathom. I mean, he wouldn’t harm a fly. Ah… he wouldn’t harm a fly. That’s the rub, isn’t it? That “harm a fly” line is famously from the final scene of Psycho, and Wood, who stars in a remake of Maniac as a slasher with mommy issues, possesses the same preternatural sweetness that Anthony Perkins did in Hitchcock’s 1960 classic.

Clay Aiken equates gay marriage opposition with interracial marriage objections

14 May 2012 7:50 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

"Celebrity Apprentice" and "American Idol" finalist Clay Aiken joined Family Research Council head Tony Perkins, Daily Beast columnist Mark McKinnon and Freedom to Marry chair Evan Wolfson on Sunday's "Face the Nation" to tackle the topic of same-sex marriage.

"I think today it's even less conservative ... in the country music world than was in 2003, when I was on 'Idol,'" says Aiken, who came out as a gay man in 2008. "It hasn't really had much of an impact at all, in a negative sense. It's had more of a positive impact. I think, between the time of 2003 to today, we've seen -- as we've seen with gay marriage polling -- we've seen minds changing. We've seen people becoming more open and understanding of homosexuality."

He also believes that residents in his home state of North Carolina will ultimately reject the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

The John Bensalhia Column: Scream of the crop

So here is a slight change of pace – I'll be branching out into other areas apart from Doctor Who, including film franchises, TV shows and comedies. How's about kicking off with a scary movie series then? Newbies be warned – there are so many spoilers in this article, that Doctor Who's River Song would explode with smug rage.

By the middle of the 1990s, the horror film had seemingly died for good. Just like Dracula slowly rotting away to a skeleton, the horror genre had slowly ebbed away for the past decade or so. Hammer Horror classics from the 1960s and 1970s had given way to popular horror franchises in the 1980s such as Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street, but even by the mid-1990s, these had seemingly vanished into the ether. However, acclaimed director Wes Craven along with Kevin Williamson were to breathe new life into the rotting genre. »

Clay Aiken On Gay Marriage: 'We're Going To Be Ashamed We Were Against This' In 20 Years

"American Idol" alum Clay Aiken took to CBS's "Face the Nation" over the weekend to talk North Carolina's Amendment One as well as President Obama's endorsement of marriage equality.

Aiken, a North Carolina native, said residents would ultimately reject his home state's controversial ban on gay marriage, which will now act in addition to the state's statutory prohibition against all recognition of same-sex couples. "The polls in North Carolina show that over 60 percent of North Carolinians actually support some recognition for same-sex couples, be it civil unions or domestic partnerships," he said. "As North Carolinians see what it's done, and what it will do, I think they will support the fact that President Obama did speak out on principal...I think we'd like to see politicians speak out on principle a little bit more."

Well, this could be different. While Fox won't announce their fall schedule until about the time you're reading this, rumor is that they'll be moving Glee to Thursdays to make Tuesday all sitcoms, and giving Glee an American Idol lead-in for at least part of the year.

The Avengers racked up over $100 million this weekend, which has never been done before by a film on its second weekend. That puts the gross globally over the billion dollar mark. The poorly reviewed Dark Shadows was a bust, at least for a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration, bring in a mere $29 million.

Bob Greenblatt made some risky moves with his schedule over at NBC, but he does seem to have a plan, launching shows like Revolution (looks fascinating) after The Voice on Mondays, and giving Ryan Murphy's The New Normal the Tuesday post-The Voice launch, which hopefully makes it a hit. »

Clay Aiken defends same-sex marriage on 'Face the Nation,' looks like a polished politician

No, it wasn’t a task for The Celebrity Apprentice (wrong network, for starters). Former American Idol runner-up and current Celeb Apprentice contestant Clay Aiken appeared this morning on CBS’ Face the Nation on a panel about gay marriage — and the real headline is that the one-time America’s Next Top Model guest judge played the part of talking head quite admirably.

Dressed in a sharp suit with a not-too-flashy pocket square, Aiken appeared on the venerable Sunday morning political talk show alongside some heavy hitters like Tony Perkins, president of the anti-gay marriage Family Research Council; Ted Olsen, the »

Tony Perkins Distances Himself From Rand Paul’s Obama ‘Gayer’ Joke: Not ‘A Laughing Matter’

"Got a big laugh there, what's your take?" Schieffer said. Perkins rebuked Paul for his comments, saying the issue was serious and he should not have ridiculed President Obama about it. »

Blu-ray Review: Madonna’s ‘W.E.’ Fails to Explore Its Alleged Subject

10 May 2012 5:37 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Madonna’s “W.E.” completes a trilogy of lackluster Oscar bait released last year by the Weinstein Company. Each film squandered potentially fascinating subject matter by upstaging it with pointless framing devices. Imagine if the majority of “Titanic” followed Bill Paxton on his self-centered quest for the diamond. That would surely have amounted to the most boring three-hour epic in history.

My Week With Marilyn” was the best of the three Weinstein duds, if only because it embraced its status as inconsequential fluff. Yet it was maddening to see Marilyn Monroe play second fiddle to a dull young admirer. The Margaret Thatcher that received the majority of screen time in “The Iron Lady,” was a wispy, inoffensive ghost of her former self, thus enabling her controversial political career to be left offscreen. Why does the most interesting character have to remain an enigma confined to insufficient montages?

Thomas Parkin, Real-Life Norman Bates, Convicted Of Fraud In 'Psycho'-Like Case

9 May 2012 5:07 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

"We all go a little mad sometimes. Haven't you?" said Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror film, "Psycho." In regards to a recent lawsuit, those words have never been more appropriate. A few weeks ago, Michael Daly of the Daily Beast wrote about a fascinating case involving a man who's been nicknamed the "Real-Life Norman Bates." In a tale of Hitchcockian proportions, 51-year-old Thomas Parkin had beem accused of dressing up like his dead mother in an attempt to secure her $2.2 million brownstone and to cash her Social Security checks. (Fans of "Psycho" will remember that the film's main character had been impersonating his mother long after she had passed away. Of course, in the movie, Bates was also murdering innocent people, something Parkin was not accused of.) The trouble began in 1997, when Irene Prusik supposedly signed over her brownstone deed to her adopted son Thomas Parkin »

10 Best Bad Movies for Gay Summer Viewing

Once upon a time I wrote a column called "Bad Movies We Love," and I feel close enough to you to admit that -- actually? -- I don't love bad movies. I would rather watch something good, weirdly. I'm sensitive when it comes to reserving time for woefully bad cinema, and that's why I want to help kick off your summer with the essential gay stinkbombs. Summer is the best time to gather your friends at 11 a.m. on a Saturday, gather around the thespian sorcery of Elizabeth Berkley, and cry, cry, and laugh until you're whole. Let's celebrate the worst of the best of the worst!

10. Chastity

Though not as renowned a misfire as the later totems on my list, Chastity is one of the weirdest film debuts ever -- particularly for a splashy firebrand like Cher -- and therefore it's essential viewing. More than a full decade before »
