Nicole Kidman has Zac Efron in her sights in dreamy new poster for 'The Paperboy'

Anyone remember the 1994 Canadian low-budget thriller "The Paperboy" starring Alexandra Paul from "Baywatch" as a suburban woman being stalked and terrorized by a deranged...um, paperboy? Yeah, it was pretty bad. But no worries - save for the title, the upcoming dramatic thriller of the same name starring Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack has no connection to the former film. As proof, a new '70s-inspired one-sheet for the movie has been released that shows Efron and Kidman sitting in a vintage pink pony car - Kidman eyeing the younger man with a subtly seductive, Suzanne Stone-Maretto in »

Rescue Me creator Peter Tolan rewrote Baywatch script

16 September 2011 6:29 AM, PDT | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

Peter Tolan has turned in a new Baywatch script to Paramount Apparently, Rescue Me creator Tolan has a new draft of the Baywatch script, but, according to ComingSoon.net (via JoBlo and Matthew Aaron Show), his version hasn't got anything to do with the famed David Hasselhoff starrer. We also learnt that roles were written for both Hasselhof and Pamela Anderson, but that they aren't playing the same characters they did in the series. Baywatch ran from 1989-2001 and included Jeremy Jackson, Michael Newman, Chris Fiore, Alexandra Paul, Daivd Chokachi, Gregory Alan Williams, Yasmin Bleeth, Erika Eleniak, Nicole Eggert among many others. Most interestingly (and I didn't know this since I didn't follow the series that long) Jason Momoa (lead of Conan the Barbarian, Game of Thrones) was in 44 episodes as Jason Ioane. »

DVD Review: Jeff Bridges in 8 Million Ways To Die!

13 September 2011 5:08 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

For a lot of contemporary audiences, Oscar winning actor Jeff Bridges is probably most recognisable for his role in Country/Western drama Crazy Heart (for which he eventually won his gong) and for stepping into the almighty shoes of John Wayne in the recent True Grit remake and probably for his villainous turn in Iron Man. However, back in the 80s Bridges turned in this role as a hardboiled, alcoholic cop in the action-packed caper 8 Million Ways to Die, which was released on DVD for the first time yesterday and I bet has hardly been seen by anyone who wasn’t an adult at the time of release.

Matthew Scudder (Bridges) is a tough Lapd drugs cop, who also has a dependency on alcohol that is beginning to affect his work. When he shoots a suspect in a drugs raid after having a tipple, his life rapidly spirals out of »

DVD Review - 8 Million Ways to Die (1986)

7 September 2011 11:32 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

8 Million Ways to Die, 1986.

Directed by Hal Ashby.

Starring Jeff Bridges, Rosanna Arquette, Alexandra Paul, Randy Brooks and Andy García.

Synopsis:

An alcoholic Los Angeles narcotics cop, Matt Scudder, takes part in a drug bust that results in his fatal shooting of a small-time dealer. Scudder ends up in a drunk ward, suffering from booze and blackouts, damaging his career and his relationship with daughter and estranged wife. After a prostitute he meets is murdered he’s drawn back into the world of vice.

What better way to start off a cop movie than to drop the hero from a great height. In the popular film series, Lethal Weapon, Mel Gibson played a suicidal cop whose daredevil behaviour gave his character that much needed edge. When a man has nothing left to lose, things tend to get more interesting. However, Hal Ashby’s alcoholic cop yarn barely hits the bar. »

Midnight Screening of Christine at the Nuart in West La on Friday, March 4th

3 March 2011 3:50 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The guys at Cinema Cool have been on a bit of a hiatus since last summer, but they're coming out of "retirement", as it were, to host a midnight screening of John Carpenter's classic Christine tomorrow night (Friday, March 4th) at the Nuart Theatre in West Los Angeles.

The film is being shown via a brand new 35mm print, and if that's not enough to get you out to the Nuart, there'll also be a Blu-ray/DVD giveaway (based on John Carpenter trivia) and the premiere of a very special video tribute to Carpenter, featuring clips and commentary on all of his films.

Synopsis:

She was born in Detroit on an automobile assembly line. But she is no ordinary automobile. Deep within her chassis lives an unholy presence. She is Christine — a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury whose unique standard equipment includes an evil, indestructible vengeance that will destroy anyone in her way. »

What to buy this week: DVD & Blu-Ray releases for Monday 17th January

17 January 2011 3:00 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Well, three weeks into January and the DVD and Blu-ray releases are heating up, with some of last summers biggest movies finally hitting the home formats, and some classic re-releases… Here’s the weeks highlights:

Grown Ups (DVD & Blu-ray)

In the tradition of The Big Chill, five childhood friends (Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider) reunite after 30 years to attend the funeral of their beloved youth basketball coach over the Fourth of July weekend. They all stay at the late coach’s lake house with their families in tow. Comedy ensues as they relive old times, tease each other, and try to show their kids how to have fun the old fashion way. The hilarious reunion shows them not only how different their lives have become, but how much they still have in common.

The Switch (DVD & Blu-ray)

Seven years after the birth of his son, »
