Sex And The City Sparks New Drink Craze

16 August 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sex And The City's Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall have sparked a new drink craze across America - after an emotional season finale on Sunday evening. In the surprising episode, Parker's character Carrie accepts a marriage proposal, and she and Cattrall's character Samantha get together for a celebratory cocktail. But rather than going for the usual cosmopolitan cocktail, brazen Samantha leans across the bar and demands "two rubies". Ever since the episode, America's cosmopolitan drinkers have been making the switch - to the red cocktail made of rhubarb-infused Finlandia, cane syrup and fresh lime. One Los Angeles barman says, "It's only been two days since the show but the demand has been amazing. We've had to put in extra orders for Finlandia vodka. It's so funny how much power a show can have. All the ladies have been loyally drinking cosmos, but the tide is turning." »

Cattrall Slams Sex And The City 'Rift'

27 July 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Kim Cattrall is surprised at reports that she and her Sex And The City co-stars aren't getting along - because they spend most of their spare time singing together. Cattrall and her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, have been reported to be at loggerheads for various reasons including jealously and payment wrangles. But that couldn't be further from the truth, insists Cattrall, who plays Samantha in the hit cable series. She says, "I just find it very funny. We've been together for five years now. We have our own private lives, but we work hard together and we love what we're doing and there's a real camaraderie on the set. We have a lot of ease. Between takes - and the hours are frequently long - we're singing show tunes together. I've never been in a cast where there's that kind of camaraderie before." She adds, "They always say that about women. I mean, they come to me and say that The Sopranos cast are always together. But we have private lives. We come home to our husbands and families." »

Confident Sex And The City actress Kim Cattrall is as uninhibited in real life as she is in the hit television show. Cattrall, who plays sexually liberated Samantha in the series, is just as confident as her on screen character - a fact that more uptight Kristin Davis discovered when the pair went to a health club together. Kristin recalls, "Kim is so free. I went to the Reebok fitness club with her once. We're in the spa area, and I'm in my bathing suit and Kim is butt-naked, walking around and striking up conversations with people. "But I admire Kim. Everyone is different. Sarah Jessica Parker has an absolute no nudity policy." »

9 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker has to buy a ticket if she wants to see her husband. Parker lives in New York with her actor spouse Matthew Broderick, but since he's starring in the hit Broadway adaptation of Mel Brooks's classic film comedy, The Producers, every night and Parker is filming her popular TV series by day, Broderick says he only really sees her when she's a member of the audience at performances. He says, "She comes to see the show a lot. She's a good audience member. It's good because I don't see her much these days, so I see her out in the audience. She works in the day and I work at night right now so I notice her when I'm there." Luckily Parker has connections, observers note. The show is sold out through the length of the stars' contractual runs and seats are running as high as $500 or more from ticket resellers. »

She says, "I'm not particularly proud of how I look. I've never been what Hollywood considers beautiful. It would be so great to look like Andie MacDowell. She beat me to the lead role in Four Weddings And A Funeral seven years ago. She's so beautiful I'd have hired her." »
