Gwyneth Paltrow silver dress on the Oscars' Red Carpet Gwyneth Paltrow at the Academy Awards Donning a shining silver dress, Gwyneth Paltrow arrives at the 2011 Academy Awards held on Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Paltrow's latest movie, Country Strong, was up for a Best Song Oscar. It lost to the Toy Story 3 ditty "We Belong Together," by Randy Newman. More than a decade ago, Gwyneth Paltrow took home the Best Actress Oscar for John Madden's Shakespeare in Love (1998), a romantic comedy-drama also featuring Joseph Fiennes (as William Shakespeare), Judi Dench, Geoffrey Rush, and this year's Best Actor Oscar winner, Colin Firth (The King's Speech). Paltrow's (moderately) gender-bending Shakespeare in Love heroine remains her only Oscar-nominated performance to date. Directed by Shana Feste, Country Strong fared decently at the U.S. box office, but not as well as some had expected. Besides Gwyneth Paltrow, the cast includes »

All week long our writers will debate: Which was the greatest film year of the past half century. Click here for a complete list of our essays. "Mulholland Drive." "Donnie Darko." "Spirited Away." "Ghost World." "The Royal Tenenbaums." "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." "Wet Hot American Summer." "Pulse." "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." If you're not stunned by the sheer variety of greatness in the above list of films, you probably won't be on board with my argument for 2001 as the greatest year in movie history. And if you're puzzled by the exclusion of "A Beautiful Mind," then you might as well stop reading now. "A Beautiful Mind," of course, won Best Picture at the Oscars the following year, an honor that felt undeserved at the time and positively baffles in hindsight. The Ron Howard-directed drama was an ephemeral triumph, the kind of middle-of-the-road Hollywood »

“Fast & Furious 7” grossed $72.7 million in its second week at the Chinese box office, a strong number that lifted its 15 day total to $324 million after 15 days of release, according to data from Ent Group.

The figure was a steep drop from the $188 million in its previous full week (Monday to Sunday). But it still left “Furious 7” as the top film of the week, and earning more than twice as much as second placed title the new release romantic drama “The Left Ear” which took $31.9 million in three days.
In third place was Fan Bingbing-starring romance “Ever Since We Love,” which held on well in its second week. It took $10.2 million, for a 10 day total of $21.9 million. »

China’s box office told only one tale over the past week – the blistering pace of “Fast and Furious 7,” which broke records and left all competing titles standing.
The past seven days saw the film add $186 million to its huge first-day score, bringing the eight-day total to $250 million, according to Chinese data service Ent Group. The film was watched by some 29 million Chinese spectators, who paid an average of $6.3 per ticket for the privilege.
While the cinema owners and fans may have been cheering, the massive score sent shivers around other sections of the industry. Chinese filmmaker Feng Xiaogang, speaking at the Chinese directors awards a week ago, said that it sets the bar ever higher for the locals to compete.
And many in the industry have been wondering if “Furious 7” will at some stage be removed from screens by regulators who judge that it has taken enough »
