Former Wgn America Head Matt Cherniss Joins Apple

Matt Cherniss, the former president and general manager of Wgn America and Tribune Studios, has joined Apple to oversee development at their new worldwide video unit, Variety has confirmed.

He will serve under Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, the former presidents of Sony Pictures Television who joined the tech giant back in June to oversee the company’s growing push into original content.

Cherniss left Wgn America and Tribune after they were acquired by Sinclair Broadcasting, as Sinclair planned to shift focus away from producing original series. Peter Kern took over Tribune Media following the exit of CEO Peter Liguori, who announced his resignation in January. Cherniss had been with the network since March 2013. As Variety previously reported, Cherniss was a contender for vacant posts at both AMC and Sony Pictures Television. Sources say he was offered the chance to replace AMC’s president of original programming and development Joel Stillerman, who »

Spider-Man: Homecoming tops $700 million worldwide

13 August 2017 11:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This weekend, Marvel Studios added another notch to its belt, as Spider-Man: Homecoming passed $700 million in ticket sales at the worldwide box office. Homecoming has become the 8th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to pass the milestone and already topped the box office totals of such recent Marvel releases as Ant-Man and Doctor Strange

The film still lags behind this summer’s other two superhero releases, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman, which brought in $861 million and $797 million. While Guardians’ box office run is practically over, Homecoming and Wonder Woman still have a little bit of gas still left in the tank. On top of remaining domestic (Us and Canada) sales, Wonder Woman will debut in Japan at the end of the month, likely pushing it way past the $800 million figure, and Homecoming is due out in China next month.

Homecoming sits as the fourth highest-grossing Spider-Man film domestically, »

The very low-carb, moderate protein and high-fat eating plan has been around for decades. While it’s definitely fairly restrictive—dessert lovers keep moving—it’s doable in the office, you’ll find options when you eat out, and you can still enjoy some of your favorite cravings.

When Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin revealed that they had separated in 2014, call the world a little startled to learn that the consciously uncoupled pair were riding out the carefully timed announcement—delivered via Gp's goop newsletter, naturally—together in the Bahamas with their two children. How civilized, right?! They were hardly the first exes to be spotted in bathing suits together post-split, but their amicable getaway seemed to inspire a new way to be the bearer of bad news—the equivalent of holding up a big sign for the cameras that says "Nothing To See Here, We're Fine." Iron Man's Original Ending Saw The Escape Of The McU's First Villain

4 August 2017 8:15 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Let's be honest, whether it is the fact Iron Man came out nearly a decade ago, he was just another sub-par Marvel villain, or that he had a bald head, you forgot that Jeff Bridges was the first villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I know I do, often, and I love Bridges and have seen every McU film countless times. So, lest we ever forget again, Bridges played the very first McU villain in 2008, Obadiah Stane, father figure and business associate of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who betrayed Tony, stealing his Arc Reactor to power his own suit, the War Monger, rather than go along with Stark's plan to stop producing and selling weapons (except more Iron Man suits and genocidal robots than are healthy).

If you remember all this, and the finale of Iron Man, then you remember that Stane was killed at the end of the film. »

Tom Holland responds to Kirsten Dunst’s Spider-Man: Homecoming criticism

3 August 2017 2:15 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

A few weeks before the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, original Spider-Man trilogy star Kirsten Dunst shared a few choice words for the reboot, accusing Marvel and Sony of “milking that cow for money”. Well, speaking to Movie’n’co UK (via Cbm), our new Spider-Man Tom Holland has responded to Dunst’s comments, offering a rather diplomatic response:

“You know, she’s entitled to her own opinion and I’m not one to judge at all. I definitely am not doing this movie for the money. I mean, it’s a job that I think anyone would do regardless of what you were getting paid, you know? All I know is I had the greatest time on this movie and I absolutely loved it and if she doesn’t want to go and see it, I don’t really care. I don’t dislike her in any way for what »

Golden Globes’ Biggest Red Carpet Rebels

2 August 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Academy Awards has a long reputation of being the straight-a cheerleader big sister to the Golden Globes’ more rebellious, drama club younger sibling, at least as far as its fashions are concerned. Save for some break-the-mold looks like Bjork’s infamous swan dress (and, lest we forget, its accompanying egg clutch) and Cher’s Bob Mackie headdress, the Oscars are remembered for polished jewels while the Globes are there for stars to make statements.

The go-to example for this argument is still, now over a decade later, “The Practice” star Lara Flynn Boyle’s skimpy petal pink prima ballerina faux paus from the 2003 ceremony. The get-up served its purpose; that is, it changed her narrative for the evening from solely being about her recent breakup with Jack Nicholson, who would win lead actor in a motion picture drama for “About Schmidt” (he told the Associated Press that Boyle’s Swarovski-dazzled tulle skirt and matching Chanel shoes »
