Our weekly round-up of the biggest news stories from the world of movie superheroes…

Having made way for Disney's marketing blitz on The Avengers these past couple of months, Warner Bros. stepped up the promotional campaign for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises in a big way this week, flooding the world wide web with a host of Bat-related goodies. It began with a new theatrical poster, and while this left some fans underwhelmed, the studio more than made amends over the next few days, starting with six character posters showcasing Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy) and Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), along with a 'secret' Catwoman design that was discovered tucked away on the official website. Of course, this was just the beginning, and soon we had two new TV spots consisting of snippets of previously unseen footage, in addition to a whole raft of images featuring Bruce Wayne / Batman, »

Jon Favreau Returning To Iron Man 3 - As An Actor

25 May 2012 3:56 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Filmmaker Jon Favreau is making a return to the Iron Man franchise - to reprise his onscreen role as Robert Downey, Jr.'s bodyguard sidekick.

Favreau directed the first two installments of the Marvel comics movie adaptation, but announced in 2010 that he would not be taking charge of Iron Man 3 so he could work on other projects.

Shane Black was brought in as his replacement and production began in North Carolina on Wednesday.

However, Favreau hasn't cut all his ties to the upcoming sequel - he has been invited back to portray Happy Hogan once more, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The director, who will also serve as executive producer on the new film, made a cameo as the character in the 2008 original, and enjoyed more screen time as Hogan in Iron Man 2.

Actors Guy Pearce and Sir Ben Kingsley have also been added to the new cast of Iron Man 3, which will see Downey, Jr. return as the titular superhero, with Gwyneth Paltrow as his love interest and assistant, Pepper Potts.

The film is due for release in May, 2013. »

Now that The Avengers is out of the way, Marvel Studios is pressing ahead with subsequent solo instalments in the Cinematic Universe, beginning with the Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3. With principal photography getting underway this past Wednesday in Wilmington, North Carolina, further casting news has now emerged, starting with confirmation that Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau has closed a deal to reprise his on-screen role as Happy Hogan, joining fellow returnees Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark / Iron Man), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Don Cheadle (Rhodey) and Paul Bettany (voice of Jarvis).

In addition to Favreau, it has also been reported that Ashley Hamilton (Sunset Beach) is in talks to join the cast in the role of Firepower, which Variety describes as “a small part”. William Sadler Rumored For 'Iron Man 3' Role

25 May 2012 12:26 PM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

It seems like the "Iron Man 3" casting department has been awful busy in recent days. In addition to the casting of Ashley Hamilton as Firepower and Jon Favreau returning as Happy Hogan, it looks like there is a third actor who might be coming on board the upcoming Marvel movie.

Latino Review found out that William Sadler has been seen on the film's set recently for a costume fitting. This isn't hard and fast confirmation of his inclusion in the movie, but we can't think of anything else the "Shawshank Redemption" star would be doing in Wilmington on set except for gearing up for a role in "Iron Man 3."

Since his participation is still unofficial, it's unclear whether Sadler would play a villain or ally of Tony Stark. Our hope is for the former, since Iron Man's enemies seem to be swarming around him like flies. In addition to Firepower, »

Hamilton and Favreau Join “Iron Man 3″

25 May 2012 12:22 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

No, Favreau isn’t going to direct Iron Man 3. Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) has that job. But Favreau has signed on to return as Tony Stark’s bodyguard (and comic relief) Happy Hogan, according to Hollywood Reporter.

To add to the cast, Variety reports that Ashley Hamilton (Sunset Beach) is in talks to play a villainous cyborg Firepower who works for the government. It’s a small role for the son of George Hamilton (and apparent stepson to Rod Stewart), and joins James Badge Dale (The Pacific) who plays Savin, Rebecca Hall in an undisclosed role, and Ben Kingsley (Gandhi) may or may not be the Mandarin. They of course will be joining Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow to round out a pretty sweet cast.

Iron Man 3 will hit theaters May 3rd, 2013 (my sister’s birthday, for those keeping score). »

With The Avengers still breaking every record in the book, Marvel’s already hard at work on their next projects, starting with Iron Man 3. The news dropped yesterday that Jon Favreau would return as Happy Hogan and Ashley Hamilton would join as Jack Taggert. Now, it looks like William Sadler (Die Hard 2, Shawshank Redemption) will be joining Tony Stark’s third outing on screen [Latino Review].

No official word yet on Sadler’s casting or role, but he was seen with Guy Pearce (who will be playing Adrian Killian) in Wilmington, North Carolina during costume fittings so it’s safe to start surmising. Sadler will join an ever-growing cast lead by returners Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, and Favreau. New cast members include Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, and James Badge Dale. Shane Black will direct based off a script co-written by Drew Pearce and, »

25 May 2012 10:22 AM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Jon Favreau is returning to the "Iron Man" franchise -- just not as you might expect. After directing the first two installments, Favreau has inked a deal to appear as an actor in "Iron Man 3." Fans of the films will remember Favreau's cameo appearance in "Iron Man" as Tony Stark's bodyguard, Happy Hogan. The role was expanded in "Iron Man 2."

In "Iron Man 3," Favreau will reprise the role, according to THR. There's no word yet as to how large a role he'll have, but he did tweet the below photo of his chair as proof of his return to the show.

Production is set to begin filming next week in North Carolina, with cast members Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle returning. They'll also welcome newbies Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ben Kingsley and James Badge Dale to the cast.

William Sadler The Latest To Join Iron Man 3 Cast

25 May 2012 10:20 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

But just because production is starting doesn't mean there's no time to make some tweaks, or introduce some actors on the set who hadn't yet been announced. Just yesterday we learned that Ashley Hamilton had signed on to play the villainous Firepower, and now Latino Review is reporting that another character, William Sadler, has been spotted at a costume test on the set as well. Ashley Hamilton Brings Firepower To 'Iron Man 3'

25 May 2012 10:05 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

It's especially good news that Happy Hogan is back for "Iron Man 3," because it seems like Tony Stark needs all the allies he can get.

Variety has the news that Ashley Hamilton will play Firepower, another villain in the film. It's said to be a small part, though we know from the comics that Firepower ends up working alongside the Mandarin. That seems to confirm that the Mandarin will play a role in "Iron Man 3" one way or another, though it hasn't been confirmed that he is a part of the movie.

Considering the fact "Iron Man 3" will "borrow elements" from Warren Ellis's six-issue "Iron Man: Extremis," we can assume that the Mandarin will at least have a small role. The Variety story says "Iron Man 3" will focus "on the spread of a virus through nanotechnology," which very likely is their way of referring to the Extremis serum. »

Jon Favreau Will Reprise Happy Hogan in Iron Man 3

25 May 2012 8:13 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

With Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3″ already shooting this Wednesday in North Carolina, there have been a lot of news regarding the film, from the casting of Ashley Hamilton as another villain for ol Shellhead called Firepower, to rumors that Marvel Studios were so psyched about the success of “The Avengers” that they’ve bumped up the film’s budget from $140 million to $200 million. Now, official word has Jon Favreau, who directed the last two “Iron Man” movies and guest-starred as Happy Hogan, Iron Man’s chauffeur and all-purpose butler, will indeed return as the character for the third installment. I guess someone has to drive Tony Stark when he’s not flying around in his superhero garb. This was pretty much a given after Favreau recently let us know that he’s still very much involved in the film’s production, even if he’s not directing anymore. »

‘Iron Man 3′ Adds Another Villain; Jon Favreau Returning as Happy Hogan

25 May 2012 6:55 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

With big names like Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale and Rebecca Hall joining returning series veterans Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle, Iron Man 3 is shaping up to be a promising new entry in the popular film series. By comparison, it seems almost trivial that obscure actor Ashley Hamilton is apparently in talks to play equally obscure Iron Man villain, Firepower. Then again, it’s unclear how, exactly, this character fits into the larger story line  based on the Iron Man “Extremis” storyline, leaving open the possibility that Firepower will, in fact, play a pivotal role.

Back For More 'Iron Man'

25 May 2012 5:26 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Jon Favreau is headed back to the "Iron Man" franchise. Just not as director.

Favreau -- who, when he isn't directing summer tentpoles like "Iron Man" or "Cowboys & Aliens," is also an actor -- tweeted a photo on Thursday of a director's chair with the name "Happy Hogan" written on its front. Hogan is Tony Stark's chauffeur and assistant, a role Favreau played in the first two "Iron Man" films.

Filming on "Iron Man 3" began in North Carolina on Wednesday with Shane Black ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang") taking over directing duties from Favreau.

The actor posted the photo at 7:18 p.m. Est, and his involvement was later confirmed by THR. According the trade, Favreau signed on to play Happy Hogan again, but how big his role will be in the film remains unclear.

If all of this sounds really familiar, that's because you remember when Favreau said he »

Bill Clinton takes photo with porn stars at charity event

24 May 2012 7:49 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

In what has to be the best photo of a president since Richard Nixon posed alongside Elvis, Bill Clinton had his picture snapped with two porn stars.

The photo, which was posted to Twitter on Wednesday (May 23), shows Clinton standing alongside XXX film veterans Tasha Reign (left) and Brooklyn Lee (right). The woman on the far left, Jennifer Taule, is not in the adult film industry. She reportedly runs a drug testing business.

The picture was taken at a charity event in Monte Carlo benefiting the William J. Clinton Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Also attending the fund raiser were Hollywood stars Diane Kruger and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Clinton, of course, will forever be known for his extramarital dalliance with Monica Lewinsky while serving as Commander-in-Chief.

Jon Favreau Will Be Back As Happy Hogan In Iron Man 3

24 May 2012 6:10 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When it was announced that Jon Favreau would not be directing Iron Man 3, some of the more detail-oriented fans asked the question, "what about Happy Hogan?" In addition to serving as director on both Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Favreau cast himself as Tony Stark's #1 bodyguard. Despite the fact that things seemed to be on good terms between the studio and the filmmaker (Favreau was an executive producer on The Avengers) some people still worried that Favreau's firing would result in a continuity change. Fear not. Favreau has confirmed to fans via Twitter that he will indeed be back to play Happy Hogan in Iron Man 3. Rather than using words, the actor/director simply wrote, "Btw" and posted this picture. Other stalwarts of the franchise returning for round three include Robert Downey Jr. - as the titular hero - Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Paul Bettany. New »

Iron Man 3 - Ashley Hamilton In Talks For Role of Firepower

24 May 2012 5:30 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Shane Black has found one of the villains for Iron Man 3. Variety reports that Ashley Hamilton is in talks to play the small part of government cyborg Firepower. You may recall that in the comic books, the character is the pilot of an experimental armored suit under the secret mission dubbed Project: Firepower. He eventually uses the suit to battle Iron Man.

Hamilton is not only the son of George Hamilton, but the stepson of singer Rod Stewart. He is also a personal friend of Robert Downey Jr., but this would mark the first time they have worked together. Hamilton appeared on the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars before becoming a correspondent on Extra.

Production is set to start this month with Black at the helm of a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce. The story will be a blend of elements from Warren Ellis' six-issue Iron Man: Extremis, »

'Iron Man 3' Gets Villain Firepower Courtesy Of Ashley Hamilton While Jon Favreau Returns; Mads Mikkelsen Is 'Thor 2' Baddie

24 May 2012 4:49 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The son of George Hamilton, stepson of Rod Stewart, former competitor on "Dancing With The Stars" and a correspondent on "Extra"....listen, we know Marvel is thrifty, but this is pretty ridiclous...

But believe it or not, Ashley Hamilton -- one of People's most beautiful people in the world sometime in the '90s (hilariously, even IMDb can't be bothered to find out when) has joined "Iron Man 3" as the villain Firepower. To Wikipedia! Essentially, Firepower is another guy-in-a-metal-suit-with-weapons, the brainchild of Edwin Cord, rival businessman to the currently treehugging Tony Stark. Or depending on which storyline you're using, he's government agent who tangles with War Machine instead of Iron Man. Either way, Ashley Hamilton. Man, after losing Jessica Chastain, that pendulum just swung way back the other way....

Anyway, the Drew Pearce-penned, Shane Black-directed movie starts shooting this month and we presume "Extra" will have all the juicy gossip. »
