Toronto Film Review: ‘The Mountain Between Us’

10 September 2017 8:30 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

An odd choice of American studio project from Israeli director — and two-time Oscar foreign-language nominee — Hany Abu-Assad (“Paradise Now,” “Omar”), “The Mountain Between Us” begins with a spectacular disaster, as a private plane crash-lands atop a snow-covered ridge in what’s known as the High Uintas Wilderness in northern Utah. It’s all downhill from there, literally, as Kate Winslet, Idris Elba and the dead pilot’s dog attempt to make their way back to civilization.

Between its beautiful stars and panoramic vistas, this gorgeous-looking Fox production offers plenty of scenery to ogle, but not much else for the brain to do while Winslet and Elba alternately bicker and bond in what amounts to a fairly routine wilderness trek — minus wolves, avalanches, frostbite or any of the challenges that typically make such things interesting. Instead, true to the eminently skimmable novel on which it’s based (Charles Martin writes like a child. In »

Peter Dinklage Searches for a Killer Memory in Rememory [Trailer]

14 August 2017 5:02 PM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

"Game of Thrones" has been really good for Peter Dinklage's career. The character actor had always been a standout but being on the biggest show on the planet has certainly elevated things just a little for his career.

Among all of the projects he has coming in the next while, one of the most interesting is definitely Rememory.

Written and directed by Mark Palansky (most notable for his charming modern fairytale Penelope), the movie stars Dinklage as an investigator who is hired by a widow, Julia Ormond, to investigate the murder of her husband, the man behind a new technology which allows individuals to re-live memories.

Along with Dinklage and Ormond, the movie also stars Henry Ian Cusick ("The 100") and features one of Anton Yelchin's final performances.

First Trailer for Indie Sci-Fi Film 'Rememory' Starring Peter Dinklage

14 August 2017 4:34 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"The machine is incredible!" "Pure, unfiltered truth." Ready to remember all of your memories? Lionsgate has debuted the official trailer for an indie sci-fi film titled Rememory, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is one of a few subtle indie sci-fi films that played at the festival, along with Marjorie Prime and The Discovery. The gimmick in this is a device that can extract, record and play a person's memories. The inventor is found dead, and his wife retreats into her home until a mysterious man shows up and begins investigating what exactly happened. Peter Dinklage stars, with Julia Ormond, Martin Donovan, Evelyne Brochu, Henry Ian Cusick, and the late Anton Yelchin. The film received pretty bad reviews out of Sundance, and while I am somewhat intrigued, this trailer doesn't really grab me.
